Can you recommend a crime author?

Dh's birthday is coming up and I'm wondering about getting him some books by some new authors he hasn't tried.

He only really reads crime and he's pretty much read everything by Harlan Coben, Lee Child, Jo Nesbo, Tess Gerritsen, Michael Connelly...

He doesn't like books that are set in the UK Hmm.

Any ideas welcomed!

Second Edna Buchanan. Her crime fiction is really good. The setting is Miami for the most part.

I also second the Tartan Noir recommendations, especially Ian Rankin. Not set in the UK, but very very good.

Another American writer he might want to try is Margaret Maron. Her Deborah Knott books are set in North Carolina and should be read in order. The first is Bootlegger's Daughter.

Bithurt Apologies for jumping in, but definitely read Irène first. I was at a talk he gave this week and he spoke about how his conception of the Camille trilogy was to show Camille's life through his interactions with 3 strong women, 1 per book. But the 4th reading is Camille's journey through the 3 books. He said that you can read the books out of order but you'll not get that 4th reading.

I read Alex a few months ago and thought it was absolutely superb. I read it just before Irène was published and I got pretty cross when I realised Irène was the first book. Hopefully you'll enjoy them.

Love Michael Connelly and James Lee Burke. Also James Ellroy, though they're quite dark. Laurence Block is also a good read, and if you/he wanted something lighter, I enjoy his burglar series.
Also, I've recently started downloading lots of these via Audible - makes my commute much more bearable, and when I want to block out iCarly etc that my children are watching while I cook tea - don't know if he'd appreciate an Audible membership with a few suggested reads??

Karin slaughter is brilliant.

Minette Walters is brilliant.

Munette Walters sets her books in U. K. but they are super

I like Donna Leon, her books are set in Venice. The characters name is Brunetti, and he talks about food. A lot. Probably why I like them so much!

Peter May's Lewis trilogy is brilliant and so are his Enzo Files series (which are set in France)
Jussi Adler-Olsen is Danish and has written some absolutely gripping crime novels - Mercy, Disgrace and Redemption. I see that he has just launched a new book.
