If I like Tracy Chevalier's books what else might I like?

I read Remarkable Creatures on a whim because we often go to Dorset on holiday and I thought it might be interesting. I really enjoyed it and am now racing through The Last Runaway which I'm having trouble putting down!

I haven't read much other historical stuff but wondered what else in a similar vein - not necessarily historical, just something with a bit of substance but not too highbrow - I might enjoy.

With a similar theme to The Last Runaway I think you would enjoy The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd. Her other books are also very good, The Secret Lives of Bees in particular.

I think you would also like Sue Gee - try The Mystery of Glass and Earth and Heaven.

Ann Patchett is one of my favourite writers - try Bel Canto and State of Wonder.

Also Kate Grenville - The Secret River is very good. An absorbing story with interesting details about life in Australia during the days when we sent ships of convicts there.

Falling Angels is her best (IMO). Have you got that lined up?

Thanks, I finished The Last Runaway last night and my Kindle recommended some of these too :) I will look at what else she's written as I think there are a few more and then try some of your suggestions.

HighlandCoo Excellent suggestion . Sue Monk Kidd's entire oeuvre would work here I agree.

Also try 'Cane River' by Lalita Tademy and 'Swamplandia' by Karen Russell. It has some magical realism but is such a beautifully written evocative book with the strong sense of place many US writers possess.

Books by Jude Morgan, such as A Taste of Sorrow - a ficitionalised account of the life of the Brontes or Passion about Mary Shelley are similar to Tracey Chevalier I think,
