For sheer joy and pleasure in every line I go back time and time again to Lord Peter Wimsey. Especially 'Murder must Advertise'

For regressing back to happy childhood it is the wonderfully disturbing 'Marian's dreams'

I agree, though, for perfect relaxation, I get those nice people at Audible arrange to have someone read it to me. Derek Jacobi reading Sherlock Holmes is PERFECT!

The Miss Read books.

Thrush green or Fairacre series ,I am not fussed.

Either will do and I can pick up any book and instantly know where I am in the story. Perfect for a non stressful read.

I find James Herriot's books really comforting and lovely.
