Did anyone have that article from last Thursday? Which ones are worth reading? 5 down, 95 to go for me!

Will try and complete the list before I die!

I've read 28..

wheelybug · 08/08/2006 21:02

your welcome !

I've clocked up 16. My favourite all time book is on there - 3 men in a boat.... really recommend that one. Mind you, that might be because it reminds me of DH and his friends (which isn't really a good thing !)

Also recommend Great Gatsby, Scoop, Room with a view, wuthering heights, Lolita....

wheelybug · 08/08/2006 21:03

you're welcome (stupid stupid spelling !) - am supposed to be cooking dinner so rushing

hulababy · 08/08/2006 21:04

I have read 9 of them

Sobermarx · 08/08/2006 21:05

I've read 45 of them. Must be very old after all.

CitizenFranny · 08/08/2006 21:09

I've read 27 - most of my favourite books are on there too, except for Great Expectations.

mummyofeb · 08/08/2006 21:13

Have just finished one of them on the list and about to start Anna Karenina which is long so tell me is it worth it?

OP posts:
CitizenFranny · 08/08/2006 21:18

I never read Anna Karenina because my copy was about 600 pages long and on the back it said "The tragic tale of Anna Karenina who, thwarted in love, throws herself under a train"

I thought I am not struggling through 600 pages when you just gave away the ruddy ending on the back cover

Turqumseh · 08/08/2006 21:22

Have read 25 , mostly decadence and minxes.

Belo · 08/08/2006 21:44

Hello. Haven't posted on any of the book club discusions before.

I've read 28. Mostly when I was younger on what seemed like over long family holidays.

In recent years I've loved the Wilkie Collins novels. Anna Karenina is brilliant. Its her journey to throw herself under the train that is the story. What drives her to do it? I'm trying to pick up courage to read War & Peace. But, I'm sure I'd do myself an injury carrying it to the train each day! Anybody read it?

ZippiZapata · 08/08/2006 21:46

I've read War and peace threee times..twice in one week..it's very good once you get over the names but if you've read anna karenina then you are used to that..

dewofarc · 08/08/2006 21:47

read 22 - what a useful list for reminding you what is good to read

dewofarc · 08/08/2006 21:49

wow at reading war and peace 3 times - had to read it for uni and HATED it, but loved Anna Karinen, Crime and Punishment and Brothes Kramazov

nikkie · 08/08/2006 21:49

I've read 20 !

ZippiZapata · 08/08/2006 21:50

I read it for uni too, hence twice in a week "the Historical Novel in Europe"

donnie · 08/08/2006 21:57

36 and counting....

dewfawkes · 08/08/2006 21:59

wooooooooooo! impressive, but still 45 is awesome.

mrsdarcy · 08/08/2006 22:15

Hi Belo
I've read 27 so plenty to work on.

clerkKent · 09/08/2006 12:49

I've read about a third of them. The Communist Manifesto, for one, is not a good read. I could never get past 3 pages of Heart of Darkness.

As far as I can see, there is nothing written in the last 20 years.

I've read 20 - but I prefer the 'top 100 books' list that came out on TV a few years back. More fun than categories - and then all the book shops started 3 for 2 offers on the featured books to help you catch up. That list was more varied - I'm guessing this list is 'not in the last 30 years' or something.
