Over the years Mumsnet bookclub has been lucky enough to feature books and author webchats with some of the greats in modern day fiction. However, we're also really keen to feature novels by debut authors and for this reason we're bringing to you Mumsnet Introduces... where from time to time we'll introduce a debut author, their work and give you the opportunity to read and discuss their books and put your questions and thoughts to the authors. We'll also be asking each author to share with us their tips on how to go about writing a novel and getting it published.

This month we're introducing Lottie Moggach and her brilliant Kiss Me First. Described as 'the first coming of age novel for the internet generation', it deals with the trials and limitations of living life online with themes that will strike a chord with the discerning Mumsnetter.

Watch this brilliant trailer to give you a taste. (NB his 30-second trailer logs in with Facebook, but connecting to watch this trailer is completely safe, and does not post or share any of your details on Facebook or elsewhere).

We have 50 copies of Kiss Me First up for grabs. We'd love to know what you think so apply for a free copy and join the discussion on this thread.

Faithful to the themes within her book, Lottie is going to be taking over @mumsnetbookclub twitter account later in the month (Tuesday 25 February) and answering your questions about the book - we'll bring more info about this later. Finally we'll be posting up Lottie's debut author tips later this week.

Thank you for the book. I did enjoy this book as a concept. I don't think many authors have gone down this route yet but the message that the author was trying to get across was obvious and a hot topic in the current social media world.

I felt the beginning took a while to get going and a little confusing. Some of the topics were a little out there but the outcome predictable

The ending was stumped and rushed, which is disappointing, but I love Stephen kings books and he is awful at ending his books! I have learnt to not let myself dislike the story.

It is a good book to take on your hols and switch your brain off and enjoy. Don't read too much into the storyline and you won't be disappointed.

Thanks

Hi,
Sorry it's taken me all week to get the chance to read the book and get back on here.

I enjoyed the book overall.

I was disappointed that it didn't really feel like a thriller (however I don't often read thrillers so perhaps my expectations weren't correct).
It would have been good for the ending to have not felt so rushed or unfinished - I would have loved to have discovered what became of Tess - was she dead or just living her life elsewhere?

I think I would have liked to have heard Tess' side of the story to really understand her character a little more.
Perhaps if the book had been a bit longer we could have really got underneath the skin of the characters a little more.
I expected something altogether more sinister.

that being said, I liked Lottie's writing style and will look out for any future novels.

Thanks for the book

I got this on a Kindle daily deal, it's an OK debut overall, interesting premise but it starts in the middle of things, seems too rushed, and the end is ludicrous, just decide, one ending or another, you can't have both..

Just finished it. Disappointed like a lot of other readers. Not a thriller. No suspense. No cliff hangers. Not pacey enough. Not believable. I didn't like the heroine, she seemed a bit mixed up herself. Interesting subject but a boring book all in all. Sorry.

Dropping in very late to this thread. I've just finished listening to Kiss Me First on audiobook and I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed it.

Whilst you couldn't call it a thriller, it held my interest throughout. It had suspense, an unreliable narrator, a menacing leader of a suicide cult and lots more to keep me listening. A great first novel. Looking forward to reading more from Lottie Moggach in the future :)

bit late to the party but finished this last night and although overall I enjoyed it, it didn't quite live up to my expectations after reading all the excellent reviews from various magazines. I was looking forward to some massive twist at the end but it didn't quite happen so the ending was a little disappointing. It was still a promising effort considering this is her debut novel and I would still read her future books.

It took me a while to finish this, so sorry for being late posting. It took me a while to get into this and I think it's because I couldn't relate to the characters. I know this isn't a prerequisite as obviously it would be boring if I only read characters that were like me.

Having said that though, I actually did think the characters were well drawn, I felt like I quite quickly knew who they were. I think it might have been interesting to have a bit more detail on the cult, it felt like it was supposed to be somehow menacing, except it wasn't. By about three quarters of the way through I started to enjoy it more and want to find out the ending. It was original though, and in general I'm glad I read it.

Have just finished reading my copy....I was expecting it to be utter shite reading some of the postings on here however I actually quite enjoyed it. Wouldn't call it a thriller or the first book for or about the internet generation but I did like Leila and her journey through the book from her sheltered life and how as Tess ended her life Leila began a new one. Didn't find the ending disappointing at all .... I don't think every fictional story has to have a definite finish to it and life isn't full of closed chapters just events that fade and dwindle. Thanks mumsnet for the book. Thanks

I finally finished reading this last week, I really enjoyed it. I found it frightening that is could be that easy to impersonate someone online, but it really could be! For me personally the ending needed more closure, it was left vague an open but to my understanding there won't be a follow on book
