Simon Rickerty's Monkey Nut was one of our bookclub picks last year and was met with some great feedback. So great that publishers Simon & Schuster used a mumsnet quote ("Laugh out loud funny") on the cover of Rickerty's latest book. [where's the proud emoticon when you need one?] Mnetters are rarely wrong and Monkey Nut went on to win Roald Dahl Funny Prize 2013.

If you loved Monkey Nut then you'll be delighted to hear that we have 50 copies of Simon's latest offering Crayon to giveaway to in return for some feedback - either by posting on this thread or adding a review. As well as being 'laugh out loud funny' Crayon is also the perfect book of children who have yet to master the art of sharing....Find out more about the book and apply for a free copy before 10am, Friday 24 January.

Thankyou for our copy which arrived last week. My almost 2 year old and 4 year old enjoyed it. The little one said the characters were babies and remarked on the emotions. The text is just the right amount for him as he doesn't try to turn the pages before we've finished reading the text. The elder one didn't show too much emotion but she keeps sitting down to read it and she does luuuurve her books so I think she does enjoy it too.

Thank you for this lovely book. I read it to my DC aged 5 and 4. At first I thought there wasn't much to the story because of the lack of words. But there is lots to talk about and the quality of the book is great. Lovely thick pages and bright and colourful. More of a discussion book rather than a reading book but sometimes this is more important.

Thank you for the copy of the book, it arrived the day before dd's 3rd birthday so she was convinced it was an early birthday present. Smile

The initial read through was a bit stilted, she didn't really identify with the story.

However, a couple of days later she fetched it from the bookcase for me to read it to her. We read it through a couple of times and she started to chat through it with me. I particularly liked the combining of red and blue to make purple as we've been making colours with paints so it was something she was slightly familiar with.

She really enjoyed it and now "reads" it herself chattering away.

Thank you for our copy of this book. DS (3) wasn't too fussed at first and it took a few reads for him to get into it. However, once he did he really enjoyed it and loves taking part by identifying all the different colours.

Thank you so much for our copy of Crayon. I have read it a few times to my 3 yr old nephew and at first he wasn't too interested, now he's finding it funny and asking for it. I love the pictures and the simple idea of it.

Thanks very much for this book which I have passed on to my 3 year old nephew. He really likes it but I'm afraid his parents find the story irritating...

Hi, thank you so much for our copy as monkey nut had a very positive response from both DS 4&6. DS (4) loved Crayon, he thought the story was hilarious and loved the illustrations. I liked watching his emotions In response to the different situations. I think he might have similar moments with his friends in preschool. Good work Simon!

Thank you for this book. It is perfect for our LO (18 mths) as she enjoys pointing to, and trying to name, the colours. We also like the fact that that the storyline tackles the issue of friendships and not excluding others. It is a bit beyond our LO's comprehension at the moment but hoping that she will enjoy that element in time
