Was that The Lost Weekend?

kiriwawa · 22/10/2013 09:36

Rebecca

wordfactory · 22/10/2013 09:39

Good call kiri which leads on to My Cousin Rachel.

MissMilliment · 22/10/2013 09:40

Try Good Behaviour, wordfactory, I can definitely recommend it.

ButThereAgain · 22/10/2013 09:41

Are we doing all obsessions or just obsessive "love" of one person for another? If it is all obsessions, then Crime and Punishment is a good one -- the obsessive desire to commit the crime morphing into obsessive regret and guilt.

Oh yes kiriwawa and wordfactory Daphne du Maurier is brilliant at claustrophobic obsession. I'd add in Don't Look Now too, for obsession relating to grief and loss.

Frankenstein and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde both deal with obsessive personalities.

gazzalw · 22/10/2013 17:34

Yes, you're right Wordfactory - thanks!

wordfactory · 22/10/2013 19:18

Thankyou for the recommendation miss

Yes, yes, yes to Lolita - can't believe I didn't think of it.

And Misery!
And The Yellow Wallpaper is superb. And Frankenstein.

The Great Gatsby

Enduring Love by Ian McEwan

I've remembered another one - Johnny I Hardly Knew You by Edna O'Brien. I think it might be out of print now, but might still available from a library. I read it a long time ago, so may have faulty memory of the novel, but I did think it was quite disturbing.

headoverheels · 23/10/2013 14:07

My first thought was Wuthering Heights but I see it's already been mentioned.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/10/2013 22:50

:) I used to be BelligerentGhoul, which I like better, but have got used to this one!

Talking of obsessions, have you read the Moz's autobiography yet?

CoteDAzur · 23/10/2013 23:31

Weren't you also Captain Whatshisname at some point?

vignette · 24/10/2013 00:57

So what made you ditch BG? Perhaps the need to stake your claim on the good prof?! Not read it yet though heard good things despite him being an undeniable wazzock. Have you?

SarahAndFuck · 24/10/2013 14:04

I came on to say The Collector as well.

I disagree with Room though, I don't think that was obsession, I think it was opportunity. It's interesting to see how others interoperate the story though so don't necessarily listen to me Grin

wordfactory I love A Kind of Intimacy, it's an excellent book.

Notes on a Scandal has obsession in it.

And I read the James Lasdun book 'Give Me Everything You Have', which is his account of being stalked by a former student. I wouldn't recommend buying it, because my god but that man is annoying and the book can be hard work because of that, but if you can borrow a copy it might be worth a read.

HumphreyCobbler · 24/10/2013 14:09

Fever Pitch

I have zero interest in football but I have read this book more than once. A fascinating insight into obsession.

Love in the Time of Cholera

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/10/2013 18:33

I ditched the ghoul for Harry Potter name change, and never went back.

Don't think I've ever been a captain, but I think I might have been a colonel for a while. :)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/10/2013 18:34

I'm scared to read the Moz because I know he's a fool and it will spoil my teenage love for him.

emmelinelucas · 24/10/2013 18:40

Ruth Rendell - The Bridesmaid
The Other Typist
