Please don't flame me, but am after some easy reading! Can anyone recommend any well-written, not too cringey chick lit (or even mum lit)?
Or anything easy going and funny (eg really loved The Common Reader)?

I forgot to mention one I read a couple of weeks ago, which I thought was very good - Pear Shaped by Stella Newman.

Yes to Catherine Alliott. Also have enjoyed a couple of Adele Parkes and Carole Matthews. Oh and another-for the life of me I can't remember her name but she was a writer/producer on 'spaced' and married to ricky gervais

GW297 · 30/06/2013 20:43

You had me at hello by Mhari McFarlane. Enjoyed both!

Erics James books are excellent with complex plots and some good twists whilst generally being happy easy reading

if you want a good weepy that's beautifully written try Never Change by Elizabeth Berg

EnlightenedOwl · 30/06/2013 22:22

I read Erica James' The Queen Of New Beginnings- it was quite a satisfying romp, mand very funny in parts.

drwitch · 02/07/2013 16:39

the horsey ones by fiona walker are like the best of jilly cooper without the snobby/racist/dubious attitudes to body fat bits
Jane Fallon is the one that viannefox is talking about
Anna Maxted wrote a brilliant book about anorexia called running in heels
cause celebre (by helen fielding aka the bridget jones one) is very good as well

DStone · 02/07/2013 18:39

Jojo Moyes - brilliant! And quite a few to choose from...

Chubfuddler · 02/07/2013 18:41

Nancy Mitford.

Boonyjinkies · 02/07/2013 18:55

Jane Costello too! Girl on the Run was my favourite.

HenriettaPye · 02/07/2013 20:08

Paige toon! Love her books

decaffwithcream · 02/07/2013 20:09

I really can't see Anne Tyler or Penelope Lively as chick lit. Great authors though.

decaffwithcream · 02/07/2013 20:10

Second Joanna Trollope, Sophie Kinsella and the earlier Emily Barr books.
