The other thread about do you miss out on reading to your kids at night just had me wondering.

DD1's current favourites are "Laura's Star' and 'Pumpkin Soup'.

My favourite to read to her is 'The Baby Who Wouldn't Go to Bed'.

I'm also reading her bits of Wind in the Willows but she keeps either falling aslep or saying 'all finished'!!

What are your kids current favs and what is your fav to read to them?

We have just finished The magician's nephew. Now I understand more details of the film The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. It looks like I will have to plough through the other 6 books too....

manitz · 02/06/2006 20:07

wot you talking about 'plough through' they were my fave books as a kid Grin apart from enid b of course...

manitz · 02/06/2006 20:09

oh and another if you have 6+ are derbyshire and jennings. they are truly fantastic and i thinkthey're from my dad's era rather than mine but he read them to me and my bro and we loved them.

We're into Gruffalo and Gruffalo's Child atm.

Room on the Broom is great too. My all time favourites (never mind the childrenWink) are Slinky Malinky and Hairy McClary. I think I must like rhyming books come to think of itSmile

katiebl · 02/06/2006 20:49

We read gruffalo, gruffalos child, Hairy Mclairy, Room on the Broom etc normally but recently ds (19 months) choice has been Keith Floyd's India (recipe book)...umm not sure why, but he does have this thing for cookery books and programmes recently. Not complaining as it gives me the time to read it.

Don't mind rhyming books with a reasonable story line, but others with animals with names like fluffy etc I refuse to read, as well as really crap stories - luckily we don't have any in the house. Love the Gruffalo etc though and find I can read them solidly for 3 months without getting too bored.

Can anyone else on here recite the Gruffalo off the top of their head. We met him in Waterstones. No wonder all the kiddies were scared - he was huge and quite intimidating.

'No Matter What', cant remember who its by but its all about loving children no matter what, makes me cry cos its so sweet.

' What if i turned into a bug?
would you still love me and give me a hug?

I 'd hold you close and tight
and tuck you in in bed at night

Does love break or bend can you stick it
does it mend?

ameli · 04/07/2006 15:35

ds is 19 months

clerkKent · 06/07/2006 12:31

Just finished The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe, now reading The Story of Tracy Beaker (8th time for her, first for me). She is 8.

housemum · 06/07/2006 12:44

Current faves of DD age 3 are:

Hippos Go Berserk (board book, she's loved it since she was 1)
3 Billy Goats Gruff
Peace At Last
We're Going On A Bear Hunt

And I know what you mean about getting the sniffles - I have never dared to read Goodbye Mog - even thinking about it brings a lump to my throat! Even books that aren't sad can get me going - there's one called A Quilt For Baby (I think it's by Kim Lewis) and there's nothing sad in it - it's just about the baby's quilt made with love by the mother, with different patches representing different things in their lives. It's not just me - I have a friend who cried when she read it too - I blame the hormones, they're never the same after kids...

northstar · 06/07/2006 12:56

Ds 4 - I Will Always Love You, (about a bear who breaks his mums favourite honey jar), Winnie The Witch, and alot of Bramble Bear books from Tesco.
Oh and Night Night Cuddly Bear is his all time favourite.

HeroesJustForOneDay · 06/07/2006 12:58

DS2 (almost 5) read me a story the other day - written by himself! It was good, too - there was a twist at the end!
