How many books are in your to read pile - confess here

Today I decided to count how many books are on my 'to read' shelf/in a pile next to my bed/ hidden in the wardrobe. I own a staggering 131 books that I have not yet read Blush. Even at the rather optimistic rate of 50 books a year that is almost 3 years of reading and this does not include all the unread books on my kindle.

So come on everybody fess up how many books do you have waiting to be read and repeat after me:
I must not buy any more books
I must not go to the library
I must not borrow books from my mum/sisters/friends
I must must must tackle my to-read pile Grin

Top of my tbr pile for 5 years are "how to dejunk your life" and "getting things done" - not read them yet ... Hmm Grin Then next to the bed are a good 25 books, received at least 8 books for christmas, and have about 300 on the shelves not read yet.
Problem? Me? Not enough time is the only one.

We have hundreds of unread books here! Like others I already own too many books but can't resist the charity shops, and libraries, and car boot sales, and book shops... And we always get given books as presents because we obviously love them so much. But with two small children (smallest four months) there never seems enough time (or brain power) to read them. Someone gave my DH a CD and it has 1000 Kindle books on there.
Is anyone here on Goodreads? Then you can add your virtual To Read pile as well!

Don't worry nickelbabe I won' be able to help myself. The list of books that I don't own but want to read in future is very very long.

I like reading about books and planning what to read almost as I like reading the books themselves so the wish list grows longer every daySmile

I have most of my books logged onto Goodreads, still have a few unrecorded ones. My problem is finding other books on Goodreads that they recommend, or which I see other people are reading (same as on here) and think "that one looks interesting" :o. My virtual Goodreads tbr pile is growing fast.

Having looked in sitting-room, bedroom and study it comes to a total of 92. Blimey - had no idea it was so many Blush

One of my problems in recent years has been belonging to three RL and one online book group. Too much! It doesn't leave enough time for the books I've bought because they caught my interest or were recommended, or books given to me as presents.

I've halved my bookclub membership this year, and I have a plan to read books according to theme (which I might post about separately) so that will hopefully make a difference ..

I have over 1000 books on my kindle, I think I have read less than 100.

I have about 30 that I am yet to read. However many I read that number stays about the same. I am really fussy with books and go through phases so buy books that suit a phase, go off it, and the books don't get read. I am making myself read one at the moment that I have had about 2 years.

  1. But they are non fiction so probably dont count. I run out, that is my problem, and am bad at returning books to library, so sometimes end up with a fine Blush

Approx 100, the reason there is so many is the charity shop sells books for 10p, mother-in-law and my dad pass theirs on to me, and junk swaps. (where you get them free !!) And sometimes none of the books you have fit the bill.

More than that. But I like having unread books.
Am trying to remember the quote comparing unread books to wine... I think it was from Susan Hill's Howard;s End is on the Landing, but may be wrong. She has hundreds of unread books, and if I recall correctly, decided not to buy any new books for a year.

Not sure whether I am boasting or confessing when I say that this is not one of my vices. My books generally get read. Mostly I get them from the library, so that gives me a time-frame in which I have to read them. I rarely buy. I do have a few books in my bookcase that I haven't got to, but at a certain point I feel too guilty looking at them and will give them to a charity shop.

I do sometimes buy second-hand copies of books I've previously read and loved, and even if I don't get round to re-reading, I'm happy to have them near by, so I can gaze at them fondly.

The last time I counted I had 52 books on my fiction shelf, but I have an extensive collection of history books hat I sometimes dip into for uni but some that I actually would like to read cover to cover and I got a Kindle for Christmas.

I am not even going to count them. I have joined the fifty book challenge and plan to tackle the to read pile with only book club books and kindle very special offers.

Someone on ne of the other threads has made a rule that they must read 10 books before they are allowed a new one.

Also, I can't walk past my Oxfam bookshop without popping in, I run the school second hand bookstall and everywhere I go there seems to be a shelf of second hand books. They are all books I want to read though and I love finishing a book then standing in front of my shelf and deciding what to read next.

i don't want to count them, but they are in two waist-height piles next to my main bookshelf, so i think there are around 40-ish. plus 30 or so on my kindle (thanks to 12 days of kindle...) I now feel as if i dont have anywhere near the problem i thought I had - so thank you! :) charity shops and super-market special offers (2 for £7) are my main areas of book-spends...and i got a £20 amazon voucher for xmas from my out-laws, so that was kindled.

About 300 on my Kindle for Ipad, as I am addicted to Daily cheap reads, and the 12 days of KIndle on Amazon at Christmas was irresistible and with one click buying, fatal for my bank account, 3 whole pages of Amazon digital debt transactions!

About 50 paperbacks, but have now stopped buying, and probably about 10 hardback non fiction.

I was brought up to read at least 6 a fortnight from the library as a child and regularly get through one a day on holiday.

I was worried DD (26) had lost the reading habit, but now with my old Kindle, no stopping her!

130! 49 are upstairs by the bed. Then there are 4 on my Kobo and 1 from the library. My challenge this year is not to buy any more books; if I want new ones they can only come from the library or free downloads. I read 120 books last year, so maybe my new challenge should be to clear the shelves? And make room for more, she said, hopefully? However, upstairs I've got the books from 3 series and I need another one before I can progress, will order from the library. So that's my challenge then, I can't buy any more and I need to read 130 books. I can do that, it's just over 11 a month and I've read 5 already this month Grin

Hate to think, I daren't count them, loads though, got worse since I got my kindle, as I often look and if they are 99p I may well buy it, as at that price if I don't enjoy it much I don't mind too much.
