Just wondering if there are any fellow Jasper Fforbes fans out there? I'm a massive fan of Thursday Next and with the next book coming out in July wondered if there were any peeps to talk to about this! Also love Shades of Grey (not to be confused with the dire Twilight fan fiction 50 shades of grey).

Another Jasper Fforde fan here, but didn't know there was another one out soon.

I recommended his books to a friend last night too. Smile

I love The Eyre Affair, but to be honest I felt that the whole Thursday Next series was running out of steam with the last book. I'm also waiting impatiently for the follow up to Shades of Grey.

I've never read the Dragonslayer books... have just ordered (from the library) - young adult collection apparently, are they any good?

I LOVE Thursday Next, and the Nursery Crime series. Just about to finish Thursday 6 and excited to see that number 7 is imminent...

I often recommend JF to friends, but I don't think any of them "get it" in the same way that I do - so I'm thrilled I found this thread!

Can anyone recommend other authors that JF fans would enjoy?

BellaBearisWideAwake · 06/06/2012 19:54

Me me me!!! I love the nursery crimes book, just adore them. My favourite joke is the Right to Arm Bears. Cracks me up.

LetUsPrey · 06/06/2012 21:15

Took me several times of reading Landen Parke-Laine before I got the joke Blush

Exogenesis · 06/06/2012 21:18

Ohhh me... I'm now off to pre-order. I had no idea there was a new one due!

Cherrypi · 07/06/2012 15:34

Oh my god I just got that Blush Letus

LetUsPrey · 07/06/2012 15:47

Cherrypi Grin. Are you a Twin Peaks fan by any chance or am I way off?

bigbadbarry · 07/06/2012 15:50

I like Thursday Next but I loved the colour one and wish he'd write the next one!

PercyFilth · 07/06/2012 18:38

I read The Eyre Affair, it was OK - but when I realised there were sequels I had no desire to read any more.

Cherrypi · 07/06/2012 20:29

Eh? No just a numpty. I read them knowing I'm missing loads of the references.

LetUsPrey · 07/06/2012 20:36

Sorry Cherrypi - thought it might be a reference to "damn fine cherry pie" from Twin Peaks Blush

I'll stop hijacking the thread and go and be quiet now.

I adore Jasper Fforde's novels! I can't even tell you how many times I've read Shades of Grey; it's shameless, really.

PercyFilth · 07/06/2012 23:13

50 times? Wink

Raahh · 14/06/2012 16:08

I got 'Shades of Grey' for Christmas from my dad. I am hoping he doesn't now think he bought me the other book! which I have read, was shit

BestLaidPlans · 14/06/2012 21:18

Loving Shades of Grey more than the later Next ones. His website is very good for news and competitions if anyone hasn't seen it. My DH is v keen to go to the Fforde Ffiesta convention thing.

I love him even more after he told me how well behaved and cute my baby was at a talk and book signing last year!

StuckStuckStuck · 14/06/2012 21:26

ah, interesting. I really enjoyed 'the Eyre Affair' and have read all of the Thursdays, but feel that perhaps he shouldn't keep going too much longer - I felt a bit 'meh' at times during the last one.

Lots of people love 'Shades of Grey' then - that one didn't do it for me in quite the same way somehow.

Interesting also that the chap himself has given good impressions, a friend went to a book signing event thingie of his a while ago and thought he was tending towards the arrogant tosspot a little......... Shock

Raahh · 15/06/2012 08:42

It took me ages to get into 'Shades of Grey'- I had the paperback, and on my kindle, and couldn't read either. It seemed like it was trying to be too clever, and all the colour references started to feel forced and boring. I made myself finish it, but can't tell you the plot. I was very disappointed as I have loved everything else.Sad.

Maybe I will give it 6 months and try again.

Very excited at the prospect of a new Thursday one though!Grin
