Any Jasper Fforbes fans?

Just wondering if there are any fellow Jasper Fforbes fans out there? I'm a massive fan of Thursday Next and with the next book coming out in July wondered if there were any peeps to talk to about this! Also love Shades of Grey (not to be confused with the dire Twilight fan fiction 50 shades of grey).

Oh, me, me, me! I didn't know there was another Thursday Next book coming out, how exciting! I love the TN books, enjoyed the Nursery Crime and 50 shades, but not as much, and haven't yet read The Last Dragonslayer, but a new Jasper Fforde book is always to be celebrated Smile

CMOTDibbler · 27/05/2012 18:34

Me ! Have read all of them, but wish he'd get on with another colour one

HaleAndPacemaker · 27/05/2012 18:34

Meeee!

I still haven't read 50 shades after losing my [signed] copy in a break-up Shock

i've loved the Thursday series thus fat but can't help wonderig whether it's reahing the end of its run? Will be really interested to see what he comes up with this time, the last one was amusingly clever.

Empusa · 27/05/2012 18:38

I'm waiting so impatiently for his next Next book!

Though I agree with CMOT that another colour one would be great. I think Shades of Grey is my favourite of all his books (so far)

HaleAndPacemaker · 27/05/2012 18:57

There were so many mistakes in my post it's probably worth just pretending that it isn't there Blush

Gabeesh · 27/05/2012 19:14

Ah now you see, I felt a bit let down by the last one - I felt that the twist at the end undermined what I wanted from the book and perhaps he's trying too hard to take it somewhere new. Likewise with his reinvention of the book world - I really liked how it was presented before and don't like the changes. I think I can see what he's trying to say and again I can understand his need to stay on the pulse but wish he'd tried to be original in another way.

Does anyone else feel really nervous about criticising him though. I mean, the man's a genious and he thinks of everything! If ever I think of a criticism I always worry he's done it deliberately and he'd be there judging me for missing the point lol

another fan here. looking forward to the next colour book more than the next next book.

Last dragon slayer is rather good too.

MrsKitty · 27/05/2012 19:31

Love the Thursday Next books. Haven't read Shades of Grey yet (had it from the library but never got around to it...) and having just done an Amazon search, I've realised that I've missed out on the last Thurday book (One of our Thursdays is missing), so have just ordered it!

GrouchingTiggerHiddenSomething · 27/05/2012 19:41

Hello!

I think "Shades of Grey" was my fav recently, would love to see the next one in that series. All his stuff is great though - if I had time I'd do a re-read from the beginning - oh well perhaps I'll have some free time next year :)

I met him once at a booksigning - he seemed very nice :)

Trills · 27/05/2012 19:44

For anyone reading this thread thinking to themselves "I haven't read these books but they sound great" you need to google Jasper Forde (not Fforbes). :)

The Eyre Affair is definitely better if you re-familiarise yourself with Jane Eyre first.

Empusa · 27/05/2012 19:46

trills Or Fforde Wink

gnoomi · 27/05/2012 19:48

I love his stuff too. I recently got to hear him talk at a literary festival and he was great then too - was interesting to hear how long it took him to be published. I also like the nursery crimes series - I'd like more of those too.

tribpot · 27/05/2012 19:49

I wonder if Jasper has considered changing his name to Ford? That would make life a lot easier all round.

I haven't read the non-Next books, I think for fear that they couldn't be in the same league. I get frustrated that more people haven't read them as they are so clever and barking mad. I've lent The Eyre Affair to my mum for so long I've bought another copy and somehow she still hasn't read it!

weblette · 27/05/2012 19:53

Just starting out on my Fforde journey Grin

tribpot · 27/05/2012 19:56

Lucky you, weblette! Keep us posted.

Love the Thursday Next series, lots of literary 'in' jokes if you've read Jane Eyre & Hamlet, hilariously funny and moving at the same time. I reread them at least once a year. Enjoyed the Nursery Crime ones too, although not so emotionally invested.

It took a little time for me to get into Shades of Grey, maybe it was hard for me to visualise but it was worth plugging away and am looking forward to the next.

fivegomadindorset · 27/05/2012 20:00

I love all of Jasper Ffordes miraculous books, I have a special soft spot for the nursery crime series.

weblette · 27/05/2012 20:08

The Eyre Affair is waiting to be started once the DCs have gone to bed as dh is away :)

Gabeesh · 27/05/2012 20:12

Oh lord, autocorrect struck repeatedly with my fave author's surname - how embarrassing!

I love Thursday Next - have always thought that if ever a book character was like me, that's her. Ok, not the stuff she gets up to but her dry persona - even the way she looks and dresses (excluding her later 'Joan of Arc' hairstyle!)

Trills · 27/05/2012 20:54

Yes, bloody double-F!

BlueChampagne · 01/06/2012 15:10

Hoping someone will buy me the new Thursday Next for my birthday this month.

GrandPoohBah · 02/06/2012 20:54

New one?! I didn't know! I'm really really impatient about the next Shades of Grey book to come out, I really enjoy the Next books but I LOVED Shades of Grey.

strawberrypenguin · 02/06/2012 21:00

Ooh I love Jasper Fforde, don't know when I'll find time to read the new Thursday book though :( barely manage to get through one book a month at the mo and that's my book group one.

MinnieBar · 02/06/2012 21:04

Right, new book is in my basket NOW

How exciting!

Trib - definitely give Shades of Grey a go, it's really quite different but it's the sort of book that stays with you. I find myself thinking about it quite a lot/certain things remind me of it quite often. Isn't that meant to be part of a series as well??
