I just have to add that i think the Thomas tank engine books are crap crap crap.

don't flow nicely, hate them with a passion. And I bloody bought a whole set of 30 of them.Had to hide them to save my sanity in the end

FrannyandZooey · 15/02/2006 18:31

Yes Thomas vile and tedious. They used to bore me to tears even as a child. Noddy as well.

littlerach · 15/02/2006 20:33

MB, thta book is Mick Inkpen, Bear.
They find a bear has fallen out of the sky and it gets up to all sorts, then the Inspector comes and that's whose finger it is.

Good ook.

Blandmum · 15/02/2006 20:35

DS loves "where's wally" books at the moment. They are a bit old for him but loves them, I myself hate them so DP gets the job of looking at them with him.

ixel · 15/02/2006 20:39

Peepo
Icky Sticky Frog

Dh reads ds all his new post from the works union... says its the only time he has to look at it...

Angeliz · 15/02/2006 20:40

O.K haven't read thread but my dd1 is 4 and so far has loved.

My naughty little sister. (all books)
Milly Molly Mandy.
Naughty Amelia Jane.
Angelina Ballerina Diaries is current favourite though.

saffy202 · 15/02/2006 21:25

DS2 loves
Wobble Bear
Squidge
Fraser the Eraser ( had that from the library a trillion times - well it feels like it)

Marina · 15/02/2006 21:27

Peepo, Each Peach Pear Plum, diabolical Pink Ballerina story from Ladybird, Pointyhatted Princesses by Nick Sharratt.
And whatever ds is trying to read quietly and unmolested of course

colditz · 15/02/2006 21:32

Ds is nearly 3, and loves-

The Three Little Pigs (ladybird)
Hairy McClary from Donaldson's dairy
the Very Hungry Caterpiller
The Thomas the Tank Engine books.
I Want A Friend (Little Princess)
Yuk! (about a little pig who won't eat his dinner)
Postman Pat's busy Day.

Mercy · 15/02/2006 21:37

at Twiglett not liking Charlie and Lola.

My ds is still at the 'What's that?'stage ...mind numbingly boring. And Thomas the bleeding Tank Engine ad nauseum (one particular page only) and Spot (even worse)

Mercy · 15/02/2006 21:38

No! I hate Hairy Mclairy.

MrsSpoon · 15/02/2006 21:38

Pooh is that you Bertie? - DS2 is loving this!
The Gruffalo
The Snail and the Whale
The Tiger Who Came to Tea
Dr Seuss, particularly The Cat in the Hat and One Fish, Two Fish
The Hungry Caterpillar (although sadly he doesn't ask for this one anymore)

MrsSpoon · 15/02/2006 21:39

Oh and we like Hairy McLary and Slinki Malinki.

Jodee · 15/02/2006 21:44

To all The Hungry Caterpiller fans, you really must get the dvd/video, it has other stories on it, accompanied by wonderful classical music and the same gorgeous pictures!

This shouldn't really be in the under 5s section, but DS was in stitches tonight as we were reading Horrid Henry's Stink Bomb - I couldn't get past the words "dog poo", he was in hysterics.

florenceuk · 16/02/2006 10:20

We have lots of these. One nobody has mentioned so far is Sendak's In the Night Kitchen - Aloha recommended this to me! Also Pierre (who didn't care) and Chicken Soup with Rice (is very nice). DS made me read these over and over again when we first got these.

Now DS is 4, he also likes factual books - like "I wonder why stars twinkle" - anything to do with castles, Romans, dinosaurs and space. Kingfisher and Usbourne all do good reasonably simple books on these topics aimed at a slightly older age group, but good to share.

puddle · 16/02/2006 10:26

Loads on here already that I love but so far no mention for Helen Cooper - the baby that wouldn't go to bed and the gorgeous Pumpkin Soup stories.
Also Bye Bye Baby by the Ahlbergs

BudaBabe · 16/02/2006 10:28

CAn we not do these threads please??? I go straight on to Amazon and order more books!!!!

I wish we lived near a library!!

DH will ban me from MN!!!

Anything by Julia Donaldson & Axel Schaffer
Kipper books - Mick Inkpen
DD loves Linley Dodd too but most people can't get the rythm right for reading them to her.
In will happily read anything age appropriate to/with her I am just happy that she is following in our footsteps as a book worm.

sassy · 16/02/2006 10:44

All the Ahlbergs'books.
Dr suess esp the Grinch, Green Eggs and Ham.
Love, LOVE the Elephant and Bad Baby
Dear Zoo (to dd2 - lots of animal noises!)
Ladybird nursery rhyme books
Ladybird fiary stories (Original 60s pictures, from my Dad's house)

HATE poxy Disney "wunnerful world of readin" book club books my well-meaning MIL keeps bringing over. And Angelina Ballerina types -too wet for me.

KBear · 16/02/2006 10:46

Quentin Blake books especially Mr Magnolia. Dr Suess too. (Not Thomas the Tank Engine if I can help it, I hide them and say let's read this lovely one and hope he forgets Thomas!).
