Currently reading Mockingjay - Suzanne Collins

hackmum · 10/05/2012 14:22

Pigeon English by Stephen Kelman. Quite annoyed because am desperate to finish and start Bring up the Bodies (the sequel to Wolf Hall, which is waiting for me on my Kindle!)

Bear1984 · 10/05/2012 14:23

I've just finished reading Mockingjay. Not sure what to read now though.

Voidka · 10/05/2012 14:25

I got an email telling me my Bring out the Bodies has been dispatched. I nearly squealed with excitement.

I am reading Summer of Blood by Dan Jones until it arrives.

Currently reading Cold Magic by Kate Elliot. Enjoying it so far. Has a steampunk vibe (alternate industrial revolution).

bruffin · 10/05/2012 14:26

Death of Grass by John Christopher.
It was written in the 50s and is a virus that kills grass and famine coming to the UK.

bigbadbarry · 10/05/2012 14:29

The Coroner by MJ Hall. Pretty trashy but I like a thriller between my proper books!

BenderBendingRodriguez · 10/05/2012 14:31

just finished Surface Detail, by Iain M Banks. very enjoyable, i quite miss the characters now. will have to read more Culture novels.

EmmaCate · 10/05/2012 14:32

Ha ha... Adult Fiction and I'm reading 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'.

I just finished 'Watership Down' - I am in a 'very easy reading after a day with the children' zone. My 2yo keeps wanting me to read a summary of Charlie based on the pictures.

Who else here has a kind of love/hate thing with Quentin Blake and longs for reprints of the Dahl stories with original illustrations? Fox, Choc factory, Glass Elevator, Giant Peach, Danny. All the early issues are at my parents - I repurchased Choc Factory when I had an urge to read it. I love the books Blake illustrated originally but why are we subjected to him back-illustrating books that are already perfectly lovely?

Whizkidwithacrazystreak · 10/05/2012 16:27

The Expats by Chris Pavone

Goolash · 10/05/2012 17:15

The Garden Of Evening Mists by Tan-Twan-Eng. I read his other book The Gift of Rain a while back. It's not happy subject matter but the writing is beautiful.

highlandcoo · 10/05/2012 18:52

The Old Curiosity Shop .. for my book group. Enjoying it much more than I expected to :)

notnowImreading · 10/05/2012 18:56

skagboys - irvine welsh, all seems rather laboured so far, he ought to stop writing

fivegomadindorset · 10/05/2012 18:57

Just finished Absolution, a novel about apatheid and writing in South Africa, brilliant.

Mrsrobertduvall · 10/05/2012 18:59

The Somnambulist by Essie Fox. It's not all that good tbh but now I've started it I feel I have to read it through to the end.

NoWayNoHow · 10/05/2012 20:06

Just finished "The Scarecrow" by Michael Connelly - not read any of his books before, just grabbed this one as it was on a shelf in the lunch room at work and I was bored.

It wasn't bad, actually. Very light reading, but enjoyable.

OP, the "Wolf Hall" sequel is on my birthday list - very excited!!

BornSicky · 10/05/2012 20:13

bruffin I love the Death of Grass... scariest "kids" book I ever read!

I'm reading "The Retribution" by Val McDiarmid... needed a quick crime fix, after reading some heavy books!

Next up are the Game of Thrones series.

bigbadbarry · 10/05/2012 20:15

qazxc the pillars of the earth is brilliant and doesn't feel like a thousand pages :)
