I am a voracious reader and I have run out of books / authors and really, really need you to recommend someone to me, (preferably with a huge back catalogue that I can really get my teeth into).

I've read everything by: Val McDermid, Ruth Rendell, Karin Slaughter, Tess Gerritsen, Patricia Cornwell, Agatha Christie, Mary Higgins-Clark, Jeffrey Archer, Lee Child, Jo Nesbo, Sidney Sheldon and Michael Connelly.

Is Reginald Hill worth pursuing? (I loved the Woodcutter) but haven't read anything else by him.

What about Mo Hayder? I read Pig Island and it made me feel very strange inside. Are her other books so disturbing?

Is there someone I should be reading and have somehow missed?

Please help, I need stimulation.....

Mo Hayders books are quite disturbing but I like them. I also love Gerritsen. Am in the same boat as you....I need a new crime writer!

dinkystinky · 22/01/2012 19:00

PD James?

K999 · 22/01/2012 19:01

I enjoyed The Treatment by Mo Hayder....and the Birdman

Exogenesis · 22/01/2012 19:01

S.J Bolton ia very good.

TheFarSide · 22/01/2012 19:03

Reginald Hill is very good and has a huge back catalogue.

Andrew Taylor has a detective series set in the 1950s plus some very good stand alone thrillers.

Also, you might enjoy Ruth Rendell and PD James although they might seem old fashioned now - although I see you like Agatha Christie.

That should keep you going for a year ...

HouseworkProcrastinator · 22/01/2012 19:04

James Paterson?
Also Joe Hill only two novels so far and a book of short stories although not really crime as such but strange/good

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 22/01/2012 19:04

Kathy Reichs, Alex Gray, Ian Rankin, Stuart Macbride...

TheFarSide · 22/01/2012 19:05

I also love the Mallory novels by Carol O'Connell, an American writer.

steviesmith · 22/01/2012 19:05

what about
Sara Paretsky (VI Warshawski)
Denise Mina
Henning Mankell (Wallender)
George Pelacanos
Stella Duffy

I love crime novels!

whatithink · 22/01/2012 19:08

FullBeam · 22/01/2012 19:09

R.J. Ellory: A quiet belief in Angels

Beautifully written but also tense and violent.

Mark Gimenez
Crime thrillers set in Texas - I really enjoyed his books.

Anything by Harlen Coben

ParsleyTheLioness · 22/01/2012 19:13

Try: Harlan Coben, Lisa Gardner, Nicci French and Karen Rose.

magpieC · 22/01/2012 19:13

If you like psychological thrillers then I'd recommend Sophie Hannah's novels.

flatbellyfella · 22/01/2012 19:13

Lesley Pierce books are an excelent read, you may need a box of tisues when reading some of her books.

diabolo · 22/01/2012 19:14

FullBeam - thanks, have read the RJ Ellory book and forgot to add Harlen Coben to my list of what I have read to death.

I dont' really "get" James Patterson - I think he did the Lake House with the Bird / Humans? - not really me, sorry.

Karin fossum is great.

Takver · 22/01/2012 19:18

I would second Sarah Paretski.

Another thread recently reminded me of Marcia Muller - if you like Val McDiarmid you might like her Sharon McCone books

hocuspontas · 22/01/2012 19:25

The Alphabet series by Sue Grafton featuring a detective called Kinsey Milhone. A for Alibi, B for Burglar etc. She's up to 'U' now so lots of books to read! They are a light read but I never guess the endings.

Libra · 22/01/2012 19:25

Louise Penny. Absolutely superb.

hocuspontas · 22/01/2012 19:26

Ooh, I forgot my favourite - Robert Goddard. He's written loads.

diabolo · 22/01/2012 19:28

Thank you everyone, keep them coming. I will come back in the morning with a pen and paper and my Amazon account and spend ££££££. Grin

If you like American books, I love Jonathan and Faye Kellerman, I second Sara Paretsky, Sue Grafton,
My favourite at the moment is Phil Rickman, Merrily Watkins, about a woman priest on the borders of England and Wales.

buggyRunner · 22/01/2012 19:38

That was number 1, damn iPhone! She's good as her books tend to be set in the 80's before DNA which is a good new take iyswim.
