I just found 'forever' in a used bookstore, my husband gave me the 'raised eyebrow' when he saw the front cover.

BUT SHE IS AMAZING!
the way she wrote for me as a preteen - 'blubber'
the way she wrote for me as a teen - 'tiger eyes' (and forever would have been right up there had it not been banned!)
and she has written for adults - I read it in my early 20's and am not sure if it would have the same appeal now that I'm creeping up on 40 - but I will give it a try when I have a moment! (sorry, can't remember the name off the top of my head...)
anyone else out there who covets this woman?

I loved those books too. For some reason some of the details in Just As Long As We're Together really stuck in my mind: the crazy dress Alison wore to a party, the neatness of Rachel, the main character Stephanie liking Peter's apple shampoo, and that shivers-down-the-spine feeling of the sadness of their friendship breaking down and her life falling apart. Another school where Forever was handed round covertly!

I LOVED Judy Blume books, read all the teen ones and like others say I think "Are You There..." was the one we all learnt about periods from Blush LOL! I have 2 girls, when they're old enough I will introduce them to JB books, I think they're fairly timeless, classic books! Like others say, might have to reread them!!!!

Lawrie you're right, that is the one I'm thinking of. I read it at the same time as Judy Blue and had it confused with "Rachel Robinson". Thanks very much! I feel like an idiot Blush

Am glad it was those - can feel like a book sleuth :) Have recently been re-reading them myself as am going through both a Jean Ure and Judy Blume phase.

are you there twitter? It's me Judy sorry but I did lol, she doesn't look like I expected

I absolutely loved these books as well. I distinctly remember reading Forever in the car and asking my mum what a sheath was. She said, "Durex" to which I replied, "What's Durex?". Her response to that was "If you don't know then you shouldn't be reading that book!"

Her books are classics. I re-read some a couple of years ago and they still really moved me. This has inspired me to go and read some more!

I also like Anne Fine - Goggle Eyes was a fave.

Had to post, and I didn't name change for this topic! I loved Judy and still occasionally re read. My favourites were always the fudge books, maybe because I was an only child and loved the idea of a sibling. I've got two boys but will definately encourage them to read the fudge books. Anyone read the collection of essays by women writers 'Everything I know about being a girl I learned from Judy Blume'?

horseyrider · 12/10/2011 20:43

I loved the Fudge books when I was younger and also "Its not the end of the world" about the girls parents divorcing. Great stuff!

coldwed · 19/10/2011 09:35

I do like her.

I loved judy blume too. Are you there god, it's not the end of the world, but don't remember tiger eyes though. I suppose Jacqueline Wilson is the new Judy blume!

I enjoyed a lot of her books and recently succumbed to the lure of buying a book called Everything I know about being a girl I learned from Judy Blume from Amazon marketplace. It seems a rather OTT claim but I couldn't resist.

Judy Blume books were great.

There was another book entitled, 'It's My Life'. Similiar to Judy Blumes's style for teenagers but i cannot find it.
