any judy blume fans?

I just found 'forever' in a used bookstore, my husband gave me the 'raised eyebrow' when he saw the front cover.

BUT SHE IS AMAZING!
the way she wrote for me as a preteen - 'blubber'
the way she wrote for me as a teen - 'tiger eyes' (and forever would have been right up there had it not been banned!)
and she has written for adults - I read it in my early 20's and am not sure if it would have the same appeal now that I'm creeping up on 40 - but I will give it a try when I have a moment! (sorry, can't remember the name off the top of my head...)
anyone else out there who covets this woman?

I loved Judy Blume when I was younger. Particularly Deenie and Tiger Eyes. I bought a copy of "Forever" in 1985 when I was about 13 and it did the rounds with the girls in my class. I still can't hear the name Ralph without sniggering! I didn't know she had written for adults.

I wasn't allowed to read them.

Therefore I read them whilst hidden in the school library. I loved "Forever".

I loved them - I bought my 14 year old niece Forever last year.

I read a book for adults by her - Sisters? Friends? Something like that and it was very good.

I read all her teen books. Loved them. I can't remember what Deenie was about - was she the girl in the spinal brace?

Ooh! My friend and I met her when we were in New York years ago. We were at a book fair and she came up to encourage us to go to speak to a new author.

She said "Hello, my name's Judy Blume" and my friend and I went "Sqeeeeeeee!" Blush

It was a bit embarrassing but we had a great chat to her about her books, and "Forever" being an under the counter book (for 4th years and up only) at our schools' libraries, and book banning in general.

She was Lovely.

Tiger Eyes was my favourite book at about 12/13 and I can still remember passages of it, although I haven't read it for 20 years. Her books are very very good. Do girls still read them?

Oh I loved her books, I read forever behind the sofa so my mum wouldn't catch me reading it!
Does she still write?

My girls have loved them. DD1-12 has read most, but not Forever or Tiger Eyes yet. DD2-9 has read Blubber, Deenie and Fudgemania series so far.

My mum got me the lot (except forever!), either through the library or bought them.

Our school library had forever, which was quite impressive of the elderly spinster librarian, but you had to be year 10 or over to borrow it.

I remember sneaking to the school library and reading Forever as only the upper years were allowed to take it out. I inhaled her books, must start buying them for my DD (but she's only 3) so I'll just stockpile them

I loved Judy Blume. I started on tales of a fourth grade nothing & worked my way through to forever.

Adult books: Smart Women, Wifey, Summer Sisters

loved Forever and every other children's book she wrote.

Yes I loved them. I remember aged about 13 doing a 24 hour sponsored stay awake and we kept ourselves from falling asleep by reading forever to each other. I seem to remember being less impressed with the adult books though. Am pretty sue they all all still in my parents loft so may have to reread. I have boys though so doubt I will be passing them on but you never know!

God, at my school, one copy of Forever made it into the library and we were all queueing up to get out mitts on it. Anyone else remember the bit that goes up, down and around, up, down and around. Thirty thirteen year olds utterly utterly mesmerised/ horrified in equal measures.
And I still snigger at men called Ralph.
