DS1 is just turned three and is enjoying longer, more involved stories. Still need pictures though at this point I think.

We have lots of books which he enjoys but he keeps saying he wants longer stories...

Any suggestions?

The Gruffalo, the Selfish Crocodile, A Squash and a Squeeze, Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs ?

singyswife · 11/11/2005 19:48

The Gruffallo and other books by this author (julie Donaldson). My kids (2 and 4) love them. We have 4 of them. They are quite long but they rhyme and the pictures are great.

Miaou · 11/11/2005 19:49

Look at the puffin early readers books - they have lots of pictures but longer stories. If I could be bothered to get off my bum I'd look some out - maybe later!

elastamum · 11/11/2005 19:50

How about the cat in the hat, and the other Dr Seuss books?

popsycal · 11/11/2005 19:54

The Mousehole Cat has lots of pictures and a sort of gorgeus poetic feel to it when you read it out loud. My ds started hearing this when he was nearly 4 and he often fell asleep by the end because it's quite long but soothing to listen to.

The story is about a storm at sea that's stopping all the fishermen bring food back to their Cornish village and how one man and his cat set off in a boat and the cat 'sings' to the Great Storm Cat to calm it down and keep everyone safe.

popsycal · 11/11/2005 19:54

will look at puffin early readers

Where the Wild things are

Gruffalo at al

yoyo · 11/11/2005 19:57

Dogger, When Mummy Turned into a Monster, Mr Wolf's Pancakes, all the Mog books, Mr Gumpy's Outing, The Snail and the Whale, No Room on the Broom, Oh no Peedie Peebles... these are all favourites with DS. Find it better to read two or three than to move onto anything much longer. He loves to pre-empt the story at this age.

popsycal · 11/11/2005 19:57

have added mousehole cat to wish list...that looks good

Witchycat · 11/11/2005 20:22

All of the Mog books by Judith Kerr
Lost in the Snow by Ian Beck
Mr Bear's Picnic (and other's in same series) by Debi Gliori (these are a real favourite - lovely pictures and some bits that adults will find humourous too)

tamum · 11/11/2005 20:28

When ds was this age I managed to find some My Naughty Little Sister books that had been produced as story books (i.e. one chapter per book with loads of colour pictures). That worked a treat, as he was then willing to go on to the chapter books with fewer pictures. If he's willing to go for one picture every now and then I would try Teddy Robinson books, maybe?

Witchycat · 11/11/2005 20:30

Room on the Broom (by the Gruffalo people)

popsycal · 11/11/2005 20:30

some brilliant ideas!
I loved My naughty little sister....and I think ds1 would too....however, the 'bad' character is named after ds2.....
