Sweet Valley 10 Years On

At the risk of being outed as a closet Sweet Valley High fan, I did happen to note that the long awaited 'Sweet Valley Confidential' (possibly also named 'Sweet Valley - 10 Years On') will be out early next year. Do I buy it anonymously on line or do I march in loud and proud to my local (non-snobby/non-judgmental) book shop?

The tv show is on one of the kids/music channels. I have found myself watching it a few times over the last month.

Dastardly here you go

God I loved the Sweet Dreams books - just looking at that website has brought so many memories back. In fact I used to wish my life was that of an American teenager Blush I clearly remember the first one I got was one about a soccer (cos of course they didn't call it football) playing girl who fell in love with the coach (can't find it on that website though. I used to read and read and read them over and over again Blush

omg the sweet dreams series! I'd completely forgotten about those!

TeaRocks · 01/09/2010 22:08

This thread has brought back so many memories!! I loved those books! I didn't like the TV version quite so much but I must have watched it as I have just found myself singing the lyrics as I read them here!!

Does anyone remember one where the twins' brother gets dumps by his girlfriend, only to find out she did it to spare him the pain because she had a terminal illness? I hope I didn't make that up - it would make a worrying statement about my psyche.

People actually read SVH as adults? You are all mad.

I used to read the books and when the TV series started I was so disappointed with Todd. He was supposed to be cute. Jessica in the TV series seemed much sluttiermore forward than in the books.

I loved the Sweet Dreams series too. Wasted money buying loads of those.

i loved the Sweet Dreams books - ao much so i can remember the second one in the series was called PS i love you and i thought it was the saddest (as in tear jerking) book i ever read as a teenager.

Also loved SVH especially the one when Jessica went brunette!

Will definately be buying it for my sister for christmas

megapixels · 01/09/2010 22:31

Hey I remember that PS I love you too. His name was Paul Strobe I think, and he lived in Palm Springs. I think it was the only one with a sad ending.

Did he die? I remember the title but not much else although the name Paul Strobe rings a bell.

PlumBumMum · 02/09/2010 18:18

Ahh I used to love the books
and read all the sweet valley twins as well they were 7/8 in those are did I make that up???

littlerach · 02/09/2010 18:22

Think there's now Sweet Valley Kids too.

dd1 loves them all and trawls round charity shop slooking fo rhtem.

megapixels · 02/09/2010 22:37

Yes he did die. There is another book in the SD series where the girl (Jenny I think?) falls in love again and it is called 'Falling in love again' (how original). She had a new haircut and everything. I remember her locking all the letters, pictures etc. of PS in a drawer and then moving on to the new boyf.

I am 35. Damn my memory is good. Grin

I think they have SV Kids, SV Twins, SV High and SV University - not sure if I'm making those things up.

DastardlyandSmugly · 03/09/2010 08:59

Oh I had Falling in Love Again too. Is it wrong to want to re-read them?

madamehooch · 03/09/2010 09:57

Stealthpolarbear - Jeffrey French does pop up again in Sweet Valley Senior Year - the forgotten series where Elizabeth blackens her whiter than white copybook and Jessica becomes almost likeable. Order is resumed however in the atrocious Sweet Valley University where Jessica is married and divorced by the first half term, almost date raped by Christmas and loses 'the love of her life' (again) in a tragic accident in the Spring.

What used to bug me is how many Christmases, summers and spring breaks they managed to get through in one year!

Oh, and there was also a board game which I confess to still having....

I read rather a lot one or two of these when I was younger.

There were SVH and Sweet Valley Twins (when they started Middle School) and Sweet Valley Kids (not sure I did read them but my younger sister did). I'm sure there were some where there was a massive fire or earthquake and some main characters died? There was Sweet Valley University too.

NoahAndTheWhale · 03/09/2010 10:17

I loved Sweet Dreams books too. Remember PS I love you - was terribly sad.

PlumBumMum · 03/09/2010 11:51

I looked up Francine Pascal, theres bloomin millions of them Sweet Valley Junior High etc

Ceebee74 · 03/09/2010 12:16

I don't think I ever read the Sweet Dreams PS I Love You but now that you have said he died, I am wondering if Cecilia Ahern completely ripped off that book when writing her novel, also called PS I Love You which involves the husband dying???
