Sweet Valley 10 Years On

At the risk of being outed as a closet Sweet Valley High fan, I did happen to note that the long awaited 'Sweet Valley Confidential' (possibly also named 'Sweet Valley - 10 Years On') will be out early next year. Do I buy it anonymously on line or do I march in loud and proud to my local (non-snobby/non-judgmental) book shop?

Ooh I'll join you at the bookshop!

domesticsluttery · 01/09/2010 19:41

Oh I loved SVH! I though it was so glamorous when I was about 11 or 12. Not entirely sure that I would be so keen on it in my 30s though...

ShinyAndNew · 01/09/2010 19:42

Surely everyone was a Sweet Valley High fan at some point?

ILovePonyo · 01/09/2010 19:42

How I used to love SVH when I was young, probably about 15years+ ago now!

Don't be ashamed, loud and proud I say!

Is it about the twins 10 years on then?

ILovePonyo · 01/09/2010 19:43

Pfft, the twins. Elizabeth and Jessica, I'm not ashamed Grin

MyMamaToldMe · 01/09/2010 19:55

I'll also join you at the bookshop! I used to love SVH!

oooohhh I'll be there behind you in the queue!

ILovePonyo · 01/09/2010 20:21

Funny, if I hadn't read the books when I was younger there is no way I'd read the new one now Wink

AmazingBouncingFerret · 01/09/2010 20:28

Ahhh Elizabeth and Jessica 5 foot 6? 8? long wavy blonde hair, blue green eyes the colour of the pacific ocean... Elizabeth the quiet studious one. Jessica the outgoing popular one...

Yup, think I may have read one too many of those in my time!!!
Grin

AmazingBouncingFerret · 01/09/2010 20:31

I still own and sometimes read Blush the sweet valley sagas, which go back in history from when the second son of an earl (!) comes over from Wakefield, Yorkshire to start a new life in America.

ElizabethWakefield · 01/09/2010 20:31

I'll be buying it Grin

StealthPolarBear · 01/09/2010 20:34

ooh I used to read these
thought this thread would be for our predictions, dont know if I actually want to read the books!

poppy34 · 01/09/2010 20:37

Yep I will be there too.. What is more worrying is remembering who they all are 20 years later

StealthPolarBear · 01/09/2010 20:37

Were the books always that bad?? Did I just not see it?
Blush

ILovePonyo · 01/09/2010 20:38

Grin at ElizabethWakefield!

StealthPolarBear · 01/09/2010 20:39

OK why have they fallen out?? Someone tell me or I'll have to buy the damn thing

BellaBearisWideAwake · 01/09/2010 20:42

OMG! That excerpt has SEX referenced in it!!!!!

I was so in love with Todd. Ruined real-life boys for me, I swear. Every kiss was The Perfect Kiss.

Sigh.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 01/09/2010 20:44

I reckon Ten Years On would be far better if we wrote it.

So. I'm guessing Elizabeth is still boring aa writer, into monogamy and hard work and Jessica is still a slut a party-lifestyle-kinda-gal who cares about fashion.

StealthPolarBear · 01/09/2010 20:46

she cries after orgasms, and is now considering before as well
She's a laugh a minute
Jessica is a voice on an answering machine , being ignored, has no place in her new life

BellaBearisWideAwake · 01/09/2010 20:48

Did it say that???!! I was skim-reading.

I wonder what the older brother is up to? The one who was barely characterised unless he was needed for a plot.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 01/09/2010 20:51

Did anyone else get pissed off that they never listed all the titles at the back of the book? Before the good ol' tinterweb I could never find out which ones were missing from my collection!

poppy34 · 01/09/2010 20:54

Yes stealth they were that bad

BellaBearisWideAwake · 01/09/2010 20:55

sadly, they were numbered (sadly, as that is the sign of a really classy series), so I knew which ones I had and hadn't read - having said that it very rarely mattered as apart from Elizabeth changing boyfriends at one point, and then back again when Todd came back (poor Josh, but really he was just a Todd-lite anyway, same stellar kisses etc), nothing reeeeallly changed over the series.

BythewayItsStillMe · 01/09/2010 20:58

I loved the books, but... I've just really surprised (and shocked) myself...

I just realised I still know the words to the theme song from the TV show! Shock
It all came flooding back to me as I read this thread and now I can't get it out of my head!

Crikey.
