Help!! I am huge and going away on holiday on the 14th of July.....

None of my holiday clothes fit. I am the biggest I have ever been I look awful.

I am not one those lucky women who carry extra weight well.

I am going to start exercising more. I think 2-3 times a day for 20-30 mins. Is that realistic?

I have done my morning workout. I aimed for 45 mins, but it was so mind numbingly boring (wii shape) I gave up after 25 mins. It did get me nice and warm though and a bit breathless. It reckoned I had burnt 250 cals.

I am going to do my first day of the 30 day shred after work this afternoon. But no third work out today as I am at work again tonight.

Any one wanna join me in a pre holiday panic diet? Or give me any tips? Recommend any flattering holiday clothes?

Also how much weight/inches could I realistically lose with exercise and calorie control in that short space of time?

i think you should calm down! start off with one work out a day. tbh it is the calorie reduction that will shift the weight. if you go hell for leather too soon you will be knackered and give up.

good luck

If you really want to go for it, try the Juicemaster 7lbs in 7 days plan - I lost a stone in 3 weeks and felt fantastic! Otherwise, lots of raw food, lots of water, no sugar, no caffeine, no bread and exercise at EVERY opportunity and you'll be looking amazing by 14th July.

ShinyAndNew · 03/06/2010 09:25

Pah! High level of fitness, high level of black coffee and panic more like!!

Though I am still fairly strong and I am going to be concentrating mainly on weight bearing/toning exercises with just one cardio session per day. I hate cardio.

My biggest downfall I think will be that I work in a Chinese and they give me free food to take home (eek)

I'm sorry bb, I cannot cope without coffee. No caffeine would kill me!

Raw food I can cope with though. Juice diet? Hmm. I am unconvinced, what about protein? Won't you just lose water and muscle?

you need to say no to free Chinese food. eat sensibly. i think 1/2 a stone is more realistic but that depends on how over weight you are.

Hullygully · 03/06/2010 09:38

No sugar, no wheat, no dairy. It's surprisingly easy as there is still loads you can eat (and you can have corn pasta etc). I lost a stone in two weeks. Plus I ran for 30 mins a day.

ShinyAndNew · 03/06/2010 09:40

I am very over weight. About 6/7 stone over weight I'd guess. But I daren't weigh myself

I don't know how it got this far. I was always slim and active until I met DH.

No free Chinese food . Not even chop suey? Well needs must. I shall feed it to DH instead, in punishment. It must be his fault, it happened when I met him

No sugar is fine. I am not keen on sweet things any way. No dairy I can cope with. I'm not sure I eat wheat anyway. I don't eat bread/wheetabix etc. Is wheat in anything I wouldn't expect it to be in?

Hullygully · 03/06/2010 09:46

May I be blunt? You got that big because you eat too much and don't exercise enough.

Absolutely no Chinese food. Avoid processed food altogether. Cook huge amounts of eg veg curry and freeze it so that there is always something healthy you can eat. Make a box of mixed nuts and seeds and get some dried apricots so you have things to snack on. Eat protein (lean: fish/chicken) with lots of veg so you don't get hungry. Drink tons of water.

Sneaky old wheat is in loads of things, you have to check. The Orgran (something like that) range is wheat free everything so you can still have pasta etc if you need something easy.

Hullygully · 03/06/2010 09:47

I hope I don't sound unkind - I'm on your side, honest!

I was just very interested to watch my dsis and her partner trying to lose weight: they ate lovely healthy food - but twice what I eat...

Yes Hully I know

The thing is I know all this, yet I have done it to myself anyway. I am so annoyed with myself.

I'll start checking for wheat. There is a nice salad shop next door to where I work so I will buy a chicken salad with no dressing or have slimfast for lunches.

Dinners - when I work I don't get home until late so it became too easy just to fill up on egg fried rice, chips and gravy. Freezing meals is a great idea. I will batch cook some yummy meals on Sat, when I am off work.

The fish mongers near me sell lovely looking seafood kebabs, I could have those after work sometimes with a wheat free tortilla and salad. Shell fish should be fine if I don't gorge on it right?

it is one thing to know it shiny but it really hard to act on it. you can lose weight but you need to get into the right frame of mind. can you make lunch instead of buying it?

Hullygully · 03/06/2010 10:09

Do you eat beans and pulses?

You can make delicious meals with those if you do and they barely have a calorie in them. Which also means you can have seven helpings if you want!

BudaisintheZONE · 03/06/2010 10:14

You could come and join us on the Nothing Tastes Better thread. I had 6 stone to lose - have lost just over one. Am not eating any 'crap'. Nothing with flour or sugar or white carbs - so no rice or potatoes or pasta. Having granola or porridge for breakfast. Also eating that heavy German rye bread. Lots of veg. Soup is great. You can make a big batch of soup and just heat it up as and when you need it.

Drink loads of water. Green tea is good too for boosting your metabolism. I am walking the dog for an hour a day. Also bought Just Dance to do on the Wii as I like dancing and thought it might help.

ShinyAndNew · 03/06/2010 10:22

I don't like baked beans but I guess they are not the sort of beans you are meaning

I'm not adverse to trying them. My Dad makes a lovely soup with lentils that I like, but it contains bacon shank and potatos and dumplings - so not good.

Do you have any recipes? I have a slow cooker so any that I could pop in there on the afternoon to be ready when I finish work would be great

I like Green Tea. Is the dance game any good? I have been thinking about getting dd1 it for a while. I have rubbish co ordination though.

ShinyAndNew · 03/06/2010 10:24

Bariatric I don't have loads of time between shifts and need to walk the dog, so buying it is easier. I don't start till late though, so I could prepare something before work.

slow cookers are brilliant. I have just made a chicken and bean casserole with veg for tonight - - about one tablespoon of olive oil just to brown the meat and soften the onions - and it will feed four. Fresh and healthy and doesn't in any way taste like diety - just nice food. Will feed four of us later.

I am a bit of an advocate for the slow-cooker!

specialsmasher · 03/06/2010 10:29

Just to reiterate - it will feed four (what's wrong with me? )

BudaisintheZONE · 03/06/2010 10:34

Dance game is ok. I have rubbish co-ordination too. I haven't done it much I must admit but am planning on it! I just suggested it as you said you get bored with cardio stuff. This can be a fun way to get some cardio in.

GettinTrimmer · 03/06/2010 11:21

Shiny - I did level 2 of the 30 day shred yesterday, the hardest exercise I've ever done. If you do that every day/every other day till you go on holiday I can't see that it won't make a big difference (it's so hard, it's got to!).

I've only lost 1.5lb this month, exercised but been rubbish on the eating front, I have 9lb to go until I am a healthy weight, and would like to do that before 1st August when we're going to a wedding.

I've lost 1 1/2 stone since January, but need another kick up the bum now...

cyb · 03/06/2010 11:27

concentrate on cutting the quantity you eat IN HALF and dont obsess with the exercise

stop bread(and therefore butter)

stop snacking in between meals on CRAP

eat half of your usual portion

you wont be starving. You might feel hungry. I'm guessing thats a sensation you havent felt in a while(speaking from experience here)

And think about this being IT for the rest of your life, not some panic diet to get to slimmer for hols or you will put the whole lot back on again.
