That's "People Cutting Out Bread, Pasta, Rice & Potatoes" by the way!!! (There must be an easier way to describe this...)

Anyway, I have been doing the above for two weeks now and feling great, but would love some more inspiration for meal times!

Please could others doing this post their meal plans for the week and hopefully we can inspire each other?

Mine is:
Tues: crustless smoked salmon and spinache quiche with salad
Wed: marinaded chicken drumsticks with roasted veg
Thurs: moussaka (with cheese and creme fraiche topping, no flour)
Fri- out for meal but have checked menu and will have steamed fish with soy, ginger and chinese veg
sat- beef curry on a bed of tiomato and onion salad
sun- pork belly and green veggies
mon- bacon, sausages, eggs, tomatoes and mushrooms with chips and beans for DH
tues- not sure yet, maybe fake carbonara with courgette ribbons instead of pasta.

ooh they sound fab and much more exciting than mine

during the week I tend to have either, spinach and mushroom omelette
some kind of veg frittata
steak fried with mushrooms /onions
cheeseburgers in lettuce rather than bread
tuna or salmon with spinach
chicken covered in mustard and grilled or ham with salad
gammon with friend eggs
spinach soup

at the weekend I make a low carb curry (not out of a jar) with cauliflwoer rice

or lasagna with fake pasta sheets made out of courgette strips

meatballs with fake pasta made from courgettes would be good also..

or chicken breasts with some kind of yummy filling like pesto and mozzarella or sun dried tomatoes and cream cheese all wrapped in prosciutto and served with green veg

I also make a sort of chinese beef stew which involves cooking strips of beef in beef stock, chinese five spice paste, chillies, soy sauce, ginger, garlic then when its cooked add strips of peppers, spring onions, brocolli, green beans, carrots and cook until just tender. You are supposed to thicken it before serving but I just reduce it down. Supposed to serve with jasmine rice but I just have it alone.

You are inspirational! I just have whatever I cook for the rest of the family without the BPRP. Can I nick some of these ideas? Not that you'd know...

What do you do for breakfast? I found a mention of some sort of protein shake which sounded good for me, but now can't track it down. Think it was from Holland and Barratt but the one in our town only had chocolate or strawberry flavour and I haven't really got a sweet tooth.

Could someone please let me know?

Have you lost loads? I'm only just starting but my sister lost nearly 5 stone before getting pregnant and has kept it off, all but 3/4lbs.

cyb · 19/05/2010 17:21

tonight we are having a BBQ I am having the boigers and rocket salado, they are all having boigers in buns

msboogie · 19/05/2010 22:57

is this the stuff Sithmummy? I think you can add coffee to make it a nice latte type drink. Might try it myself sometime.

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 20/05/2010 06:22

I have low fat greek yoghurt and fruit for breakfast or eggs.

BudaisintheZONE · 20/05/2010 08:12

I like this thread. Thanks. Great idea.

Will steal some ideas and post some of mine.

notasize10yetbutoneday · 20/05/2010 08:43

Thank you for sharing your menu ideas everyone! Loving the sound of burgers and also that chinese stew Ms Boogie, would be lovely on a bed of pak choi. Do you fry the beef first or just sort of poach it all in the stew?

Also the cauliflower rice, how do you make it please? I've heard it mentionned on here but not sure how to make it?

Sith Im being naughty and having rice krispies (I know!) for breakfast but I am going to take Porridge's advice and have fruit and yoghurt from now on.

I have been doing this two weeks now and my tummy is flater than it has ever been- weight wise I have only lost 3lb but am fitting into clothes that wouldnt even do up a few weeks ago.

Some more ideas;

Rainbow tortilla
Spicy grilled mackeral with fennel coleslaw
Aitch's cannellini bean mash
Roast chicken with minted broad beans and feta.

I eat brown bread and brown pasta sometimes which is low GI and stops me craving carbs.

msboogie · 20/05/2010 09:57

oooohhhh loving the minted broad beans and feta

and the fennel coleslaw!!

the cauliflower rice is made by blitzing cauliflower in a food processor until it resembles fine crumbs. Then you either microwave it dry for a couple of minutes (I haven't got a micro at the mo so haven't tried it that way) or you fry it in some butter until it has lost its rawness - 5 or 10 minutes. You can add bits to it to give it flavour - like chopped coriandner or spices.

It's not exaclty to die for but it isn't bad either and gives you something to make your curry look normal.

Cn I just say that low fat yoghurt is not low GI or low carb - tha fat is replaced with sugar or artificial sweetners - if you want low carb you should eat full fat yoghurt.

jenniferturkington · 20/05/2010 10:07

Good thread, have been doing the no bread, rice, pasta and pots for a couple of weeks. Here are some we have had this week.

'Breakfast salad' (salad with grilled sausage, bacon and hard boiled egg all chhopped in to it)

Veggie burgers (chickpea based)

Lamb Stew and green veggies (Jamie Oliver recipe)

Chicken Tikka masala with cous cous (Jamie Oliver recipe)

Frittata (with onions and courgettes in it)with salad.

We had takeaway curry, just ordered a meat curry, a dahl and some bhajis (no rice or naan)

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 20/05/2010 11:43

Mrs Boogie - all my GI books say that low fat natural yoghurt is low GI? I hope I haven't unwittingly been consuming a carb fest

BudaisintheZONE · 20/05/2010 13:39

Low fat natural yoghurt is fine. Low fat flavoured yoghurts tend to have lots of sugar.

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 20/05/2010 13:51

I spit in the eye of natural yoghurts. I am a HARD CORE yoghurt eater.

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 20/05/2010 13:52

Whoops, meant flavoured !

BudaisintheZONE · 20/05/2010 13:54

I LOVE natural yoghurt. Only flavoured one that tempts me is rhubarb.

msboogie · 20/05/2010 14:10

natural isn't too bad re GI but full fat is lower GI

some more great ideas there!

DavidHameron · 20/05/2010 14:19

marking place

I do the protein shakes from H&B or Ocado. Mix with soya milk, double cream and ground flax seed... Or I have strawberries or blueberries and cream for breakfast. Or ground almond muffins.

This week I have had

  • cheese and pickled onions
  • salmon grilled in lime with salad
  • home made 'cottage' pie with lamb mince, carrots and celeriac topping (sliced and covered in grated cheese)
-will be having steak with cauliflower cheese tomorrow...

-tonight probably roast chicken and roast butternut squash

Sithmummy · 20/05/2010 14:29

msboogie Thank you so much, I'll look again when I'm in town or get some on-line and try it 'latte-style'. Liking the idea of breakfast and caffeine fix in one cup!

Going to try the cauliflower rice too so that I look like I'm eating the same as the others.

msboogie · 20/05/2010 14:39

ocado do protein shakes????

what are they called please??

hoarsewhisperer · 20/05/2010 14:53

has anyone tried making fake chips? You use celeriac and make it into chips, cover with a thin layer of spray oil and roast in the oven with some whole garlic cloves....tastes almost as good as potato, but very very low carb.

Also have a very good low carb pancake recipe made with grated courgette, 1 chopped spring onion, fresh basil, salt, pepper and one egg. You need to use a teaspoon of wholemeal flour, but that's almost nothing and still brings the total carb content of the finished dish in at 4g apparently. Mix all ingredients together and then fry as a pancake in an oiled pan. very good for breakfast but also with ham and cheese on top for a quick supper.

tonight we are having cod wrapped in foil paarcels with tomatos, basil and olives with a splash of white wine. will probably do fried beansprouts to go with it instead of pasta.

msboogie · 20/05/2010 22:08

oooh fried beansprouts - that would do instead of noodles- thanks for that hoarsewhisperer!!

tonight I had steak with fried spinach- yum!

jooseyfruit · 20/05/2010 22:19

The Total brand of Greek yog is pretty low carb, has to be the full fat version though, here's the science bit
great with blueberries and flaked almonds for breakfast.

DavidHameron · 20/05/2010 22:26

Ocado stuff is called 'Bio synergy: Whey Better'. But if you just search on 'whey protein' it will come up. It is NOT CHEAP, but I prefer the taste of this one to the H&B one (which is cheaper/bigger but more synthetic tasting...)

We get the vanilla one; I haven't tried any of the other ones.

Works well with cream; with cocoa powder; no doubt with coffee though I don't drink it. At the weekends we have it with strawberries whizzed up.

I find it best to mix with a hand blender as it ends up quite lumpy textured otherwise...

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 20/05/2010 22:30

I'm on a Scarsdale Diet strict week so am by definition eating this. It's not exciting, admittedly...

mummymels · 21/05/2010 07:30

There are so many good ideas on here for meals. I am so unadventrous with mine but if you don't mind will be copying some of these. Just one question, I have looked for celeraic in my local Tesco's but can't find it there and as I have heard lots of people talk about it on here I wondered where you buy it. Do you get it from a specialist shop?
