HI. I'm new to this topic but have decided that I definately want to lose weight to feel better about myself - am recovering from pnd and am sure my feelings about my weight don't help. Anyway, want to lose about 2 stone ish - maybe more - and will prob use SW principles as that's what I know. Anyone want to join me in charting progress and sharing successes/struggles? I don't want to shell out for weekly meetings but need the support and mortivation of people sharing the journey with me.

Hi everyone. I'm doing okay thanks. Am still eating pudding as well as dinner but it means that I'm not snacking at all. I still need to address the whole breakfast thing though: i'm having toast at around half ten and then just a yoghurt and fruit for lunch but won't be able to sustain it when I go back to work... anyone got any ideas - I need a breakfast that is light (as I'm not hungry when I wake up) but that will be slow release so that I don't snack on sugary biscuits at breaktime in the staffroom....

I love the idea about you helping me to find a dress for my bro's wedding although I'd also like your opinion on the one I've found in Monsoon (though it's stupid money!) - I'll find a link for it in a bit.

Good luck to everyone for the rest of the week and the weekend. Have a fab holiday, Scatter. Don't worry too much about what you eat - relax and enjoy yourself. Wish I had a holiday lined up! x

Hi all , I did good with resisting the chocloate fudge cake , although my mum was very negative of me being on a diet and did the whole life's too short bit and told me that 9st 5 would be far too low for me .. and it so wouldn't because that was based on being 5ft 1 and really its more like 5ft and a half a inch. I did have a glass of red with dinner .

Not sure what you could eat for breakfast ohsomuchtodo. I am having honey nut shredded wheat and that seems quite slow release. A banana would probably be good. Are you a teacher? Or is it a different kind of staffroom.
I'm really glad you started this thread, its nice to have all of you to do this with.

How are we all enjoying the sunshine? its been gorgeous here today, and I definitely feel less hungry when its warmer.

I did so well I felt the need to post twice.. Not sure what happened there!

tibni · 20/05/2010 22:32

I believe oat based cereals are considered the best slow release breakfast choice, not something I can face myself in the morning. Im currently eating honey cherios because my stepdad gave me a load of small boxes. The fact that they are a measured 30g portion it has to be better than my normal bowl full of cornflakes or slices of toast.

Well done on the fudgecake. I think you will know when you are a weight you feel good at kingprawntikka.

Ispy · 21/05/2010 05:48

Can I join?!!

I'm Irish living in the US. I started Weight Watchers and had my first weigh in tonight and have lost 2 pounds. My goal is 15-20lbs loss.. Over a stone.

mummymels · 21/05/2010 06:57

Kingprawntikka ? Good luck with your new diet. Thanks. I think because I have been on this diet for so long I am starting to rebel but have been good again this week. I don?t think a couple of crackers with meat inbetween your meals is going to do any harm. Well done on resisting the chocolate fudge cake. That?s a shame your mum is not supporting you. Funny I feel less hungry when it is warm too and I fancy less stodgy food.

Tibni ? You are doing very well with the gym. I really do let myself down on the exercise front. Good luck with the healthy eating.

Scattercushion ? Well done for resisting those biscuits. Yum they biscuits are delish, so that must have been a challenge. I?ve lost about 4 ½ stone.

Ohsomuchtodo ? I have granola for breakfast with berries and Green yoghurt if that helps. I don?t think your breakfast is bad unless you are doing low carb but it?s just that you eat it so late.

kingprawntikka · 21/05/2010 09:50

Hi Ispy, welcome to the thread, I'm also hoping to lose over a stone. I am aiming for a stone to make it manageable in my head but ideally I would like to get back to 9st, which would be 19 pounds in total. That would give me a BMI OF 24, which is probably still a bit high but I would no longer be classed as overweight then.

You have lost two of your 20 pounds so you are ten percent down already!! good luck with your weight watchers classes.

ohsomuchtodo · 21/05/2010 10:27

Hi all,
Great to have such a positive response to this thread -it's really giving me the boost I need.

As there are now so many of us (yay!) it might be an idea if everyone just outlined a few details about themselves so that it's easier to keep track. Something like I've done below might be useful... only if you want to of course!

job: teacher, though am recovering from pnd so off at the moment

children: 2ds - ds1 11years and ds2 15 months

weight loss hoped for: about 2 stone but more important to me that I am a size 12

timeframe: by end of August

reason: self esteem/confidence and the summer is coming and my brother is getting married!

Hope everyone's weekend goes well - try to get out in the sunshine - it's set to be a nice one x

isallshit · 30/05/2010 15:33

Hello all, a lovely mnetter recommended this part of the site (I have a wallowy thread on relationships, that has made me do a lot of thinking, positive thinking!)

I'm having a look here for the first time, so I think I'll lurk on lots of threads.

I just wanted to say hello, sorry about the downbeat name, I'll change it, I think (when I work out how to!)

I've been out for a (very short) walk today and taken the first steps to getting fitter and hopefully a bit more in shape.

I'm looking forward to lurking, maybe even posting every now and again. It's hard to get going, so this motivating thread is good.

isallshit · 30/05/2010 15:39

oops, I forgot the details

job: office based

children: none

weightloss: anything would be nice! Ideally about two stone, I can no longer fit into my size 18 clothes

timeframe: nothing specific, as long as it takes, I suppose (not very helpful)

reason: to feel like me again, fit into clothes, a confidence boost, health (I have high blood pressure), endless list really!

scattercushion · 30/05/2010 18:23

welcome isallshit - maybe you could become isallshuperb.

update for me - just went to boots for my weigh in and i've lost 2lb despite going to olive-oil doused mallorca! maybe i've been on the meditterraen diet.

what's the latest ohsomuchtodo?

ohsomuchtodo · 03/06/2010 09:28

hiya...well, I fell off the diet wagon last week! I wasn't eating enough so then reverting to snacking in the evening - wasn't impressed with myself at all! Need to stay motivated as recovering from pnd so don't need any reasons to be down on myself. Another problem last week was that I hadn't weighed myself at the start of the week (scared!!) so I couldn't track my progress....
Anyway, this week has been much better thus far - no snacking and eating bigger meals so less hungry and not eating after dinner. Got on the scales on Monday so that I can track my weight - want to tone too and will start to track stats but want to see the numbers on the scale reducing first...
Glad there's so much positivity on here - it really helps seeing other people succeed. WE CAN DO IT!!
Anymore helpful tips would be great... I have found that ice lollies are a good plan when I want to feel like I'm treating myself, but that doesn't include Magnums lol!
Can't find the dress I was looking at for my brother's wedding online (doh!)so would love ssome ideas - I'm six feet tall and will hopefully be a size 12 by then!! Wedding is aearly September so weather should be mild, and I'm a witness so will be in photos!! Any help greatly appreciated!
Have a great rest of the week everyone xx

Hi ohsomuchtodo - well done for having a better week.

I have fallen too - same as you have not weighed myself and picking clothes carefully - read denial! Last week was dh birthday and we had a busy week with family and food. This week I have the dc's home so life is hectic (ds, 9, has severe SEN and have already had him feltpen his teeth orange- excellent colouring skills - and many other fun incidents)

So .... Sunday is my main gym day and I will get on the scales and start making a real effort. I can't even get decent walks with the dog this week as 1 adult can not handle dog and ds and dog is too much responsibility for dd. But I will make a start as best I can before Sunday.

kingprawntikka · 04/06/2010 09:45

Hi Everyone,

Glad to hear you had a good holiday scattercushion. We are going to Mallorca in the summer, so that's an incentive to me to be slimmer for the beach!

Have been doing well with sticking to my no snacking rule and I think it is making it easier. In the past I have tried to have healthy snacks but seem to always be thinking about what to eat , whereas now because I can't snack I am thinking about food a lot less.

I have also been doing an exercise DVD three times a week and so far have lost 5lb which I'm really pleased with!!

MathsMadMummy · 04/06/2010 09:58

Hello, mind if I join you?
Only properly read the OP but I also have PND so not doing great on the motivation front. Not on ADs yet but might be sorting that out soon. I'm a SAHM and pretty much tied to the baby (my 2nd) due to BFing, he's 9m but feeds all evening.

I'm about 5st overweight and size 18 but my main aim is being fitter so I can run around more with the DCs. I also feel that at 23 I can change now but it'll be harder if I leave it later, and I don't want to take any chances with my health!

I joined Change4Life a few months ago and have been making small changes that are gradually becoming habits, like drinking more water and eating more pulses. I mostly eat healthily apart from chocolate so I think my focus needs to be on being more active.

Ispy · 04/06/2010 22:10

Hi everyone. I dropped out for a week as I gained 1.6lbs after a 2lb loss. I went for my weigh in last night at WW and I've lost 3.6lbs! Finally!

I am definitely finding WW programme very helpful and find it so useful to keep a food diary and in fact I write down in the morning what I'm going to eat for the day and try to stick to that.

scattercushion · 07/06/2010 13:22

It's weird when you find yourself nodding in agreement when reading so much of this thread! I too had a week of not weighing myself due to fear! I too have had a week of not being very strict - too much booze, too much unhealthy food. I watched as Dh put two burgers on the bbq for me last night and didn't say 'oh just one for me'. And ate them and enjoyed them and now feel guilty. With wedges... and cheese...

Kingprawntikka - where are you going in Mallorca? We were staying with friends in the centre of the island at Inca and travelled round the different resorts quite a bit. It's great! Also very child-friendly.

Hi Mathsmadmummy - welcome! 23 indeed - you are definitely young enough to drop the weight and keep it off. Me at 41 (gulp) has to battle with the middle aged spread and slowing metabolism.

tibni · 07/06/2010 15:45

Well I am facing my demons head on. I weighed on Friday last week and I have between half a stone and a stone to shift. I am picking up the exercise and I can tell I have let my fitness slip as im having to run on a lesser incline (although kept the same speed).

Making little changes food wise - although I did have a couple of drinks over the weekend with a girlfriend it is food rather than booze that is my vice.

Im starting to get my head straight and ready to sort myself out. Going shopping tonight while dd is at swimming and will ensure I have healthy options in the house. Working a lot of the week and dcs activities to be taxi for but I am determined to go for 3-4 gym sessions a week.

So lets get motivated!
