Am I expecting too much? I really am sticking to the McKenna system, I thought I would have lost more than this by now, especially combined with the exercise. I feel really pissed off about it! Can anyone help?

Don't know what to say, my DH did Mckenna and lost loads....but he combined it with giving up ALL fizzy and eating fruit for breakfast. He lost three stone in six months.

Are you drinking enough water?

peggotty · 04/04/2010 18:33

I'm trying to Posie - drinking water with most meals and drinking it in between in case I am actually thirsty and not hungry. Also drinking it when exercising.

I don't know anything about Paul Mckenna so no help there. What exercise are you doing at the gym?

peggotty · 04/04/2010 18:38

Saggar, I am on a novice running programme, so running/walking for 30mins total, then 10 mins on crosstrainer and 10 mins on rower.

Perhaps ot takes time to get to know your body and know when it's hungry etc....

6lb is 6 weeks is LOSING WEIGHT! You are heading in the right direction. Don't be downhearted by comparing yourself to other people's faster or slower loss - the important thing is you are losing and getting to know your body's signals. Stick at it and make sure the exercise is one you enjoy - impossible to stick at otherwise. You're doing great!

posieparker · 04/04/2010 20:29

Can I just add that my DH did not weigh himself for ages...isn't that part of the plan?

peggotty · 04/04/2010 20:32

Will maybe give that stuff a go Kerry, although have always been a bit about that sort of thing before...

Thank you Bibbity and lastyearsmodel! Does just feel very very slow - although I am looking on it as a lifestyle change, NOT a diet, I hate diets and will never go on one again.

Posie, if you drink Diet Fizzy does that matter about weight loss?? I only drink diet fizzy and I thought that was ok but should I be stopping that too??

He gave up Pepsi Max which was his main source of water. Gillian McKeith(yes that awful woman) made this program at the same time as he started McKenna and said her top ten bad things for weight and he adhered to these...may be online somewhere, and one of them was fizzy drinks.

posieparker · 04/04/2010 20:41

I think McKenna's plan is about real change and not quick results, so really sounds as if you're on the right track....6lbs is 6lbs!!

bargainhuntingbetty · 04/04/2010 20:56

Thanks Posie

6lbs in 6 weeks is perfect and you are doing brilliantly. You are making changed to your lifestyle to stick to long term which will mean the weight will come off slowly but once it is off you will have the same eating habits and the weight will stay off. Congratulations!

matumble · 05/04/2010 07:56

are you doing the 90 day journal?
are you listening to the cd from the book?
have you got the 5 cd set?
are you in the club?

the advice on the club is that if you don't think its working slow your eating right down again. have you had any size change? i lost inches quite quickly, quicker than i expected, have you got someone to do it with, im on day 24 but will gladly chat to you if you like?6lb is a good start, how much do you have to lose if you dont mind me asking?

izzybiz · 05/04/2010 08:09

If you are doing lots of exercise you may be replacing fat with muscle, try and ignore the scales for a while, take yoour measurements down-arms, waist, hips, thighs, then check again after 4 -6 weeks.

You may find you are losing more inches than weight IYKWIM, I don't think the whole BMI thing is that reliable in the fact that everyone is different, its waist size that is important.

BouncingTurtle · 05/04/2010 08:20

I'm starting that Paul McKenna plan to, along with DH, my BIL lost a lot of weight on it, and has kept it off too.
ISn't it true that the slower the weight comes off the slower it is likely to go back on?

LostGirl · 05/04/2010 08:59

Yes, it is only really possible to lose 1 -2 lbs of FAT a week, any more than this and you are probably undereating and your body is burning your muscle for energy, hence you lose muscle mass not fat and your metabolism slows down, which in turn means you stop losing weight unless you continue to eat less and less, which is why many people put on more weight than they lost when they stop 'dieting'. Agree with the people who said don't weigh yourself, measure yourself once a month maybe, or just use the fit of your clothes and how you feel in yourself as the judge of whether it is working for you or not.

BariatricObama · 05/04/2010 09:05

i think you should be pleased, welldone 1-2lbs a weeks is excellent

ShowOfHands · 05/04/2010 09:10

LostGirl is so right.

You can only lose 1-2lbs of fat a week. And this is therefore all you want to lose without affecting lean tissue. And a lifestyle change is exactly what you should be aiming at. A diet that loses all that weight in a big go doesn't work and certainly isn't healthy is most situations. You've found that, obviously.

I think what might help you is not relying on the scales as the only measure of how well you are doing. How do you feel? How is your energy increasing? Are you fitter? Have you improved at the gym? Are you proud of yourself? Are your clothes fitting better? Are you more toned? Has anybody made a nice comment?

Think about it, you're on here complaining that you've lost weight. Well, that's a good thing isn't it? And it's only unrealistic expectations of the amount you should lose in one go that are making you disappointed. You're doing brilliantly. Please don't be so disheartened.
