Just started the Jillian Michael's 30 day shred DVD - when do you think I will see results?

Am doing it in conjunction with healthy eating and also aiming to walk to the car from work 3 days a week which is a good 20 min walk, some of it uphill...

I just want to see some sort of results within first week or so just to give me some motivation to keep at it!!

If you have done the 30 day shred, what did you think of it? I have done level 1 and was expecting a lot of jumping around and dancing but it seems very measured and calm...did the trick though...heart rate was up, muscles feel all stretched and I was panting quite a bit!

Lost girl is correect in what she says - you shoudl aim to eat either before or after a meal so that you don't eat extra and if posible eat within 20 minutes of a workout and use protien in this meal - so if it is breakfast think about what you are going to eat.

there are arguments for eating before or after work out but really it will come down to personel taste - though putting protien in your body in soem shape or form is good afterwards - so save the protien part if you eat before

LostGirl · 28/03/2010 12:03

Twinkle I don't know a great deal about weightwatchers apart from my friends experiences and she found that it was too easy to build chocolate and cake and all those sort of foods into her daily points, so whilst her calories were what she needed for the day the overall quality of the food that she was eating wasn't really doing her body any good if that makes sense? I know nothing at all about LighterLife I'm afraid.

I am by no means am expert but have struggled with my own diet for years, constantly yo-yoing up and down and it wasn't until I began doing some weight training and reading around what your body needs that the emphasis of my eating changed from depriving my body of things (eg low fat, low calorie, low carb) to looking at what it needs to work at its best.

On an average day I have two pieces of toast with scrambled egg for breakfast, a snack about three hours later which could be a piece of fruit with some ham or cheese, rice cakes with peanut butter or sliced red pepper with some hummous (ie, trying to combine carbs with protein), lunch will be approx 50% of the plate filled with salad and veg, with some cold meat (, chicken, turkey breast, lean ham are all low in fat and high in protein)/hard boiled eggs/tuna fish, and a whole grain seeded roll. Another snack mid afternoon like the first one, and tea will be some lean meat or fish with smaller serving of brown rice/whole wheat pasta/potatoes/noodles and loads of veg!.

IvyKaty is correct about eating protein after you work out as it helps your muscles to recover so on the times I work out in the evening I have another snack straight after which will be high in protein.

When I want chocolate then I have it in place of my snack, but try to do that only a couple of times a week. I have no idea how many calories I eat but I am never hungry and have seen the weight fall off in the last couple of months.

Morning ladies!

Feeling a bit crap this morning as haven't done the DVD since Tues...was aching sooo much by Wednesday that I gave it a rest and er....haven't done it since so feeling a bit of a failure tbh..but I've been so knackered the last few evenings!

Have been trying to eat well but have had a few slip ups - 2 mini danish pastries when had friends over on Friday and then DH was late home and by time we got DS to bed, we were both shattered and ordered pizza

I can't see that I'm ever going to lose weight

Don't worry about it, just keep going, everyone has days where they eat more and do less because that is life, it is trying to stop it becoming a daily habit that is the key I think. I read that a training regime and healthy eating habits should only be stuck to for 90% of the time, so give yoruself a break :-)

TracyK · 28/03/2010 16:35

Lostgirl - what protein snack do you eat after your workouts? I do combat 3 times a week and 1 of those is at night - and never really know what to have after - too late for proper dinner.

shortandsweet2 · 28/03/2010 17:04

Lostgirl are you doing the curves diet, I am and what you are eating sounds just like what i am doing on there plan

LostGirl · 29/03/2010 13:01

shortandsweet: I've not heard of curves, is that a weekly weigh in like weightwatchers or online? I just adapted something I read to suit my fussy and lazy ways (ie I don't weigh anything or work out what percentage of my diet is protein:carb:fat like it recommends, just followed the basic prinicples).

TracyK: do you have your evening meal before combat? If I have eaten a proper meal before lifting and just am purely having a snack to get some protein then I will probably just eat a few hardboiled egg whites strange I know, but I love them and much prefer to eat them than drink one of the protein powder shakes my friend swears by. If I'm not at home (or have PMT and am craving chocolate) then I'll have a protein bar. If I haven't eaten prior to working out then I still have a proper meal afterwards.

shortandsweet2 · 29/03/2010 17:44

Lostgirl it is a female only gym and they have there own diet which sounds very similar to yours. They were in Bella about a month ago.

My mum works for them and get me on to there diet. I have lost 6lbs in my 1st week

TracyK · 29/03/2010 19:07

Hi Lostgirl - no I have a small meal around 4pm and combat is at 7. Any closer or bigger and I feel like I'd puke!

I guess my snack would be an omlette as I can't eat just the white of an egg - yuk! or maybe prawns from the fridge. I'm more at a loss as what to eat - say - in the car as a snack rather than when I get home iykwim.

Which Jillian Michaels is best - Shred or the other one I've seen advertised Body Transformation or something?

Off to combat now - can't be arsed - but I'm here now. Just dropped ds off for swimming and surfing wifi waiting for class to start.

LostGirl · 30/03/2010 07:27

These are the protein bars I have, but at two pounds each there not exactly a cheap snack.

I've only seen one Jillian Michaels released over here and that's the shred, she has loads more in the US. The shred has three different levels, each lasts 20 minutes and the idea is to do the first level until you want more of a challenge and then move up to the next one and so on. It really elevates your heart rate and I found it especially good for strengthening my upper body and core. I'd been doing Tae Bo regularly prior to the shred and was surprised at how tough I found some of it. Have switched to something else for now as a friend has borrowed the shred.

LostGirl · 30/03/2010 07:29

Congrats on the weight loss shortandsweet, are you using the gym as well?

shortandsweet2 · 30/03/2010 09:02

No just the diet, I am at a different gym as there are none near me.

My mum swears by it and they also give free classes on there diet whether you are a member or not.

LostGirl · 01/04/2010 13:18

Puss: have you had another go at it yet?

kingprawntikka · 01/04/2010 14:37

Please can I just hi-jack a minute an ask a couple of questions about the Dvd?
I keep reading really good things about it on here and it sounds like you are all getting fitter with it.
But I have a long term problem with the discs in my back , which is made much worse by impact, say jumping or running on the spot, anything like that, and also I can't do sit ups because of it. I would like to lose a stone though and at the moment although I do yoga it's more toning than fat burning. I have the Davina power of five Dvd but alot of it is too high impact(all the intervals) and I'm in pain after two days of it. Would this Dvd be any better? sorry for the hi-jack and thanks.

LostGirl · 01/04/2010 19:09

Probably not I'm afraid, the cardio intervals involve alot of jumping: jumping jacks, high knees, butt kicks, jumping squats, jumping rope etc. Some of the ab exercises are plank based, but many are variations on the basic crunch as well. Also in level 3 there are lots of jumping lunges etc. Try having a look on youtube and you will see the type of things in the dvd.

VengefulKitty · 02/04/2010 19:26

kingprawn This DVD is not for you in that case, sorry.

I have just started this DVD and OMG! It appears easy, but actually doing it - woah!

I am aching and can feel it has worked my muscles, but it is not a debilitating ache, so I am going to persevere with this, esp. if I will (hopefully) start seeing results this time next week going by what most of you have said!

PussinJimmyChoos · 02/04/2010 19:32

No.....

Flo has been in town and I've just felt knackered and crampy! Having said that though, I've done a 25 min walk three times this week so at least I've done something!

Feel like I should be doing the DVD tonight but spent afternoon out with DS and running around after him and 4 other kids...was fun but am in exhausted heap as I type!

I have just got my 30 day shred dvd in the post.....!!!!

I start on Wednesday as I have to take my dh to Cornwall for deployment.... he's going away for 5 months but is a bad influence where food is concerned so hopefully everything will be okay....!!! Hope too loose 3 stone in 5 months... do you think its achievable????

LostGirl · 03/04/2010 13:09

Hi twinkle, can I suggest you throw away your scales? Just eat in a healthy fashion and try and do the dvd 3 or 4 times a week and I'm sure you'll start noticing a difference in your body and how you feel fairly quickly. Why don't you measure yourself now and then again in a month, you'll probably notice a HUGE difference. Hope you enjoy the shred!
