Hi,
I recently started a new diet with golower, just wondered if anyone else was on this to share tips, advise and support?
Thanks

Just be careful with that one. It's yet another low-carb scheme and many people find those effective short-term but impossible for the long-term. There's also a danger with any diet that offers either meal replacements or to deliver foods in preset portions.... you're not learning how to eat more healthily or judge portion-sizes if you're being spoon-fed controlled amounts. And that's another big reason why people yo-yo back to their old weight once they stop participating. Can lead to reliance and then - at about £8 a day - it can quickly get expensive.

For the same price, you could join a gym and eat fresh, healthy food you cook yourself at home. That would get your weight under control just as effectively and probably more sustainably.

Thanks for your reply and advise, I am going to continue with it as am really enjoying the food and the weight is starting to come off.
The customer support line has been really beneficial and will assist me when I (finally and hopefully) reach my goal weight with a maintenance programme.
Am 14+ stone and having had my second child 8 months ago am also getting back into exericing too so this combined with the diet will hopefully give me the boost to change my lifestyle. Been too easy to grab the bikkie tin insaaed of cooking. Another plus for me is having the food delivered so I don't have to think too much about what to have and can just concentrate on the kids meals.

Hi simmo

It's so lovely to find someone else on Go Lower. There is one other person on the boards on Go Lower too so nice to have more on board. I've been doing it now since October and am finding it so easy too. How long have you been doing it?

simmo39 · 02/02/2010 21:42

Hi Mummymels - been on it for just over 2 weeks and have lost some inches already, nice not feeling hungry too. I have tried other LC diets in the past and had quite a bit of sucess with The Atikins diet but have so far found Go Lower far better. Really like the Thai soup and the peanut bars are pretty good....

mummymels · 03/02/2010 12:34

Hi Simmo - That's brilliant that you are doing so well already in just a couple of weeks. I agree, I have tried other diets before and I have to admit that I normally struggle because I feel deprived of food but on Go Lower I haven't had that problem once I got over the first few days. It's great isn't it. Yeah the Thai soup is pretty tasty and the Navarin of Lamb for dinner is one of my favourites too.

simmo39 · 05/02/2010 22:25

Hi Mummymels - hows it going are? Are you still getting on ok? I am doing good, one of my friends recommended this diet to me and so far I am going strong. She lost her weight last summer and has so far kept it all off and totally changed her eating habits.

mummymels · 10/02/2010 00:00

Hi Simmo

Pleased all is well with you. How much did your friend lose? Still going strong here thanks. Feeling so much better for it.

simmo39 · 10/02/2010 20:41

My friend lost 5 stone in 6 months on Go Lower and has since lost a few more pounds. She looks and feels great and much healthier. It helps knowing others who are on this diet and the success they have had. I thought there might be a lot more people on it in this forum as it is so good. Then again I tried so many other diets before this that didn't work, how about you how much have you lost / got to go?

OP posts:
mummymels · 12/02/2010 01:08

That's brilliant about your friend Simmo. How are you getting on this week? There aren't many on this forum on it but I have to admit I hadn't heard of it much until I was looking into different diet options when I decided I needed to do something about my weight. I've lost61 lbs so far but that's since October so I've been on it a while but I feel great for it. I had a lot to lose though. I'm down to 10 stone 5 now but really I'd like to get down to 9 stone if I can.

simmo39 · 17/02/2010 22:47

Wow Mummymels you have done so well, inspires me to stick with it. Have been on a month and so far lost a stone. Got another 5 to go! But I must admit this is one of the few diets I have seen through the 1 month barrier and still going strong so I have a really good vibe this one will work. Do you find the helpline at Golower beneficial? I have called them a few times and have found them really good and informative....

mummymels · 17/02/2010 23:30

Well done on your first months loss. A stone is brilliant. Yes definitely stick with it. I can't believe I have been on it for 4 months now, the time has gone really quickly and I don't feel like it has been a chore at all which I have felt like with diets in the past.

Yes I've called the helpline a few times and have found them to be really knowledgeable and helpful. Sometimes I feel like I am asking really obvious. silly questions but they have reassured me that my questions aren't silly.

brimfull · 17/02/2010 23:49

Hi, I am on golower as well.
Hi mummymels.

I have been on it about 6 weeks now and have lost 16lbs. I did plateau after the first 4 weeks and had to cut out the breakfasts and have a no carb one instead.

mummymels · 17/02/2010 23:56

Hi ggirl. I'm pleased you are back on track as I know you were a bit upset a couple of weeks ago but it sounds as if you are doing really well now.

simmo39 · 18/02/2010 21:09

Hi ggirl, oh good another GoLower
I wonder if I will plateau next week? If I do will try to change the breakfast, good idea thanks! Sounds like you are doing really well too....

OP posts:
mummymels · 19/02/2010 01:08

ggirl - Just wondering did you decide to cut out the breakfast yourself or did you speak to your counsellor about it?

brimfull · 19/02/2010 15:23

mummymels- I spoke to nutritionist at golower about my plateau and she suggested cutting out the granola every other day. Being a rebel and impatient I decided to cut it out everyday.

mummymels · 19/02/2010 20:45

lol ggirl, that is very rebellious. I didn't know they could give that advice but I think it is good that they can give you such advice.

mummymels · 24/02/2010 01:02

Hows everyone doing?

I feel really naughty today.

Today the kids had pasta for their lunch and I pinched some olives. I wasn't naughty enough to pinch the pasta which would have been worse but feel a bit naughty pinching the olives as so far I have kept the Go Lower diet to the tee. Do you know if olives are low carb so I don't feel so bad?

brimfull · 24/02/2010 16:44

I expect they have no carbs mel so dont worry.

I have stayed the same this week which is annoying.

I think I am overdoing the gin and tonics even though there are no carbs in gin.
I am following the diet otherwise and having no/low carb breakfasts.

simmo39 · 24/02/2010 21:55

Really craving bread! Found it really hard whilst shopping today, apparently the supermarkets pump the smell of bread cooking round the store to encourage you to buy it! Want nice warm white bread with loads of butter on it.....help!!! Rang Go Lower helpline in the end and the advisor gently but firmly reminded me why I am doing this.
How do you 2 cope with carb cravings, you have both been doing this a lot longer than me?

OP posts:
mummymels · 25/02/2010 01:19

Phew, thats good that olives have no carb. It's the first time since October that I have cheated slightly so not bad going really.

Hopefully your weight loss will catch up next week ggirl. I very rarely drink so don't know much about the carbs in alcohol.

simmo - I agree that can be hard when you are walking around a shop where they are baking fresh bread. It smells scrumptious doesn't it. It was hard at the beginning but I have found the cravings get easier. I do still get them from time to time but not as strong as I used to. Hold in there and come and vent on here whenever you need to. Good idea that was ringing the helping too - I must admit I haven't used it as much as I could have done and I should make the most of it really.

brimfull · 25/02/2010 07:03

I was really relly bad last evening

I was so pissed off about my stall I ate 4 pacets of the choc raspberries and a pacet of bacon crisps

Back on the straight and narrow now .

Haven't strayed at all since now.
Wasn't really craving them but being rebellious and just alsmost wanting to jolt my body out of ketosis . They did tell me that sometimes helps

brimfull · 25/02/2010 07:04

k key playing up

mummymels · 25/02/2010 19:31

Don't beat yourself up over it ggirl. You have been doing well and it was only one day. If you are out of ketosis I am sure you will be back into it again in a few days.

simmo39 · 27/02/2010 17:03

Hows it going? As its saturday I think I will have a couple of G&T's tonight as a little treat. Been a stressful week as DH was waiting on the outcome of a new job. After waiting all week we finally heard Friday afternoon that he got it! Yehhhhh!! So pleased.
Had friends round last night for a Chinese takeaway, was hard but managed to stick to just protein so hoping I haven't ruined anything. Been going so well on GoLower and a couple of people have commented that I look like I have lost weight so that was a nice little boost.
Sunday lunch at mother in laws tomorrow, she has been really supportive and is doing a roast but going to cook just LC veg for everyone to help me out! Bless!!
