3 week challenge - who's up for it?

BecauseImWorthIt · 05/01/2010 10:17

I'm gently gearing myself up to a proper start on Monday, which gives three clear weeks till the end of the month.

My own choice of torture approach is to low carb. Hopefully I will drop half a stone by the end of the month, which will get me off to a good start to lose the next stone that I've been trying to lose for some time!

Anyway, if anyone wants to join me, you're very welcome!

It's only 3 weeks ...

India and Neris say I need whey protein powder. Do I? Really?

HinnyPet · 07/01/2010 14:35

I'm here, can I join?
I have been eating same as SuperSal for two days and I feel so wobbly, tired and grumpy!

BecauseImWorthIt · 07/01/2010 16:48

Well, I've never bought it. Simply because I wouldn't know where! I think it's used in shakes and some puddings, both of which I don't have.

Well! I have just had a Tesco chocolate milkshake frm their low carb (1.5g) range and hand on heart I can honestly say it was the most revolting thing I have ever drunk (and I have drunk some mad things in my past ) - am off to the decaff coffee

tiggyhop · 07/01/2010 20:46

Hi all,

Please count me in! Lost 11lb up to Christmas on low carb and running (but still eating choc and drinking white wine) (not all at the same time). Have now put back on 4lb.

7lb is goal. So Lead Us Forward "Because I'm Worth It"

Wel for fear of being kicked out already I've behaved myself today (so far!!):

2 rashers bacon
scrambled egg

cooked tikka pieces

warm chicken salad with garlic and doublce cream sauce (made by me) plus mushrooms and full fat french dressing

I also had a decaf skinny latte at Starbucks (force of habit) I guess I should have had a full fat milk one (or is there something much more indulgent that I can have, she asks hopefully ....!).

I also did an hour's walk through the deep snow to local supermarket and carried back heavy shopping (again).

Oh, I almost forgot, I've had 4 squares of dark chocolate, extremely controlled for me, especially as hubby was eating a double chocolate muffin ....

I had a migraine last night and when I woke up 14 hours later this morning (thank you DH x) all I could think of was tea with milk and sugar and a bacon sarnie - I gave in and now I feel bloatedly huge. Grr.

Do you think the migraine was the diet kicking in??

BecauseImWorthIt · 09/01/2010 14:24

Not sure about the migraine, but carb withdrawal can make you feel headachey. Sorry you felt crap. Also, if you've given up caffeine that is likely to have the same result (in fact I felt the worst I've ever felt when I gave up caffeine).

Have you been particular severe in terms of what you've given up? Are you eating properly - i.e. regularly and eating veg/salad?

Don't worry about today, just drink plenty of water and take any painkillers you might need, and hopefully you'll be feeling better soon.

HinnyPet · 09/01/2010 14:29

I used to be prone to migraines BIWI and cut out caffeine years ago, so I think this latest locarbing brought it on.
I have been dead severe!! I have cut out bread, cereal, sugar, pasta, rice and I'm eating cooked meats, salads, tuna, salmon, eggs in all forms and drinking loads of water and decaff coffee too.
Now I've had the bacon sarnie and the tea (decaff) I'm thinking "sod it" and lets have chocolate

BecauseImWorthIt · 09/01/2010 14:40

Well, the challenge doesn't actually start until Monday ...

HinnyPet · 09/01/2010 14:59

arghhhhh but have been so good until today ...... have I wasted a whole week??

BecauseImWorthIt · 09/01/2010 15:00

No - and apart from anything, you've got in some early practice and started to get your head round low carbing. Definitely not wasted!

Right everybody. It's your last day to get ready and decide what you're going to do for the three week challenge.

I'm going low carb (no specific plan), and will be giving up alcohol until Jan 30. We have been invited to dinner with a friend who collects good one and wants to try some out on us, so I'm not going to turn down that option!

I am going to see if I can buy some decent decaff coffee, so that I can at least cut down on the caffeine.

I'm not sure if I can face the scales tomorrow , but think I might make my first weigh in on Friday. Maybe I'll be a bit braver tomorrow morning .... !

OP posts:
tellyaddict · 10/01/2010 18:16

Well good luck everybody!!

I'm going to do low carb too. I've been doing it for 2 months (although not totally strict) and lost around 17lbs.

Can someone explain why it's good to eat fat, to me please? I can understand the whole eating protein to force your body to use it's own fat when there is a shortage of carbs coming in, but how does fat aid fat loss from your body? I know it does, so not arguing the fact, just want to understand how.

Also, am I right in thinking that drinking lots of water helps mobilise fat stores too....?

Thanks ladies, and hope we all get off to a good start, get the ibuprofen ready and perhaps don't plan to do too much for the first couple of days if low carbing!

Another migraine here, bollocks! but the upshot of it I have lost loads (possibly due to not eating and sleeping or possibly due to low-carbing for the week, who knows..

I was 13 1/2 stone about 3 weeks ago and I am now 13 so I am very happy. I will go and jump on the other thread... let's go for it!!!
