Anyone doing Zoe Harcombe?

I would never have known about her had I not tried her diet that was serialised in the news of the world magazine 3 months ago.

It appealed to me because it was proper food, no calorie counting - but I was going away on hols so decided to do a kerry katona last blow out and then I'd start it when I got back.

I've bought the book and am so far 5lbs lighter and I am only on day 4 of the 5 day kickstart. Phase 2 looks really good and Phase 3 is a return to completely normal eating and drinking with just a couple of simple rules to follow.

It's brilliant. I can't recommend it highly enough. I thought I was a hopeless big dinner portion fan - a crisp and chocolate addict with alcoholic tendencies. But she has just blown all that apart for me. (It's more than just a diet - it's an explanation of why we crave things and why we feel helpless - phase 1 and 2 eliminate these cravings pretty painlessly so that by phase 3 you can eat all the things you used to but with a couple of simple rules and with a new found awareness and control over food, gained from phase 1 and 2)

She's got a couple of websites - one under zoe harcombe, one under thedietguru I think.

Hope this helps anyone struggling with calorie counting and exercise

Stay strong, Squid

Happy anniversary to you too YLPA

Squidmission · 26/08/2009 20:38

I'm really trying to keep strong with this diet. I'm hoping to get a good loss but it doesn't feel like it yet. I'm on day 3 but my clothes don't feel any looser or anything and I really have stuck to it.

I just had a yummy dinner - I made a shepherds pie but kept some of the mince behind for myself. I added a green chilli to it and topped it with cucumber raita.
It was really nice and I ate a large portion of it.
I feel quite bloated and full now.

Someone tell me it was ok to eat that?
and that portion size really doesn't matter?

RinkyDinkyPinky · 26/08/2009 20:39

Franch- thanks for the link to the Kallo. DH picked some up for me on the way home.
You may be carrying a bit of water pre-period so stick with it and it'll go.

Another question about the puffed rice...
Does one eat it completely naked? (the rice not me!)
I presume milk isn't allowed- what about a mixture of water and yoghurt?
Or just plain water
Or just nothing at all...

squashedfrogs · 26/08/2009 20:53

Hi all,

Squid, I've been struggling with this too. Although I think I'm ok with eating the right stuff and not feeling hungry between meals, I'm really struggling with eating meat that isn't obviously low fat when all other diets I've been on are completely the opposite mind set. The whole 'eat as much as you want' thing is also quite odd for me too. I'm on Day 3 too and have lost no weight at all so far but I'm trying to keep the faith and convince myself that I'm doing it all right - I don't have the book yet so I'm also worrying I've been eating the wrong things! Fingers crossed this works and I'm not going to end up larger than I am in time for the wedding I'm off to at the weekend

Rinky, I had the puffed rice yesterday and only managed 40g - the bowl was heaving! I had it with the live yoghurt which wasn't too bad but should have used a bigger bowl as the rice spilled over when the yoghurt was added.

squashedfrogs · 26/08/2009 20:57

Also, has anyone else had headaches and bad moods? I don't like drinking water so wondered if I wasn't having enough but I've had loads today and still have a headache.

DP has been putting up with me snapping at him quite well but it must be my turn for payback after the amount of times I've suffered him attempting to give up smoking!

Squidmission · 26/08/2009 21:12

squashedfrogs I think you and I are on the same path!
I've had headaches since I started and have been very snappy. I've been drinking loads of water and still get headaches. I think its to do with the slight constipation I've been suffering from. I'll give it the 5 days but I don't think I've lost any weight. I've really stuck to what I think I'm meant to be doing even though its not been that nice for me.
I should do the vegeterian version. I'm sure there was one.

Squidmission · 26/08/2009 21:16

Also, I haven't been sleeping that well at night either. I'm feeling quite warm all the time too.

franch · 26/08/2009 21:58

Squid - yes def ok to eat your mince etc. Sounds lovely. She does warn against eating till you feel sick so I've been trying to eat myself full, but not stuffed.

ZH is a vegetarian so that's definitely an option (tho she admits it makes phase 1 a bit tricky).

Rinky yes you can have yogurt on the Kallo. Also soy milk 'isn't a disaster' in phase 1 (to quote ZH).

Squashed - definite yes to the headaches and mood. Disappeared after a few days.

Well today I had:
Kallo + soy milk
2 fried eggs + salad; lots of yogurt
steak, corn on the cob, green beans; lots of yogurt

Am amazed at the lack of cravings. Yes I do very occasionally think about chocolate, wistfully, in passing, but no more than that. And I know I haven't given it up for ever. But incredibly last night I was able to sit next to DH and happily watch a DVD while he tucked into a box of chocolates! And this evening I gave a couple of said chocs to DD2 without so much as a wince! Unthinkable a couple of weeks ago.

squashedfrogs · 26/08/2009 22:28

franch I know what you mean about the lack of cravings, DP wanted some chocolate 2 nights ago and thought there wasn't any in the house. I reluctantly gave him a Wispa I had stashed but didn't actually mind him having it. I was only really reluctant as I love them so much it was hard to part with it but it wasn't as though I wanted to eat it myself oddly.

mammyto1 · 27/08/2009 06:09

I had headaches too, still get them if I am truely hungry. I think its your body detoxing the cravings.

I am starting phase two today - thank god, was wearing a bit on phase 1.

Yesterday I had
kallo with natural live yogurt
prawn salad and roasted veg
chicken curry with tons of veg added

Today I am have shredded wheat for breakkie and I can't wait

mammyto1 · 27/08/2009 07:48

Is anyones else having pain all over there body - Like there muscles are all sore? This started today for me

Squidmission · 27/08/2009 07:57

Mammyto1 no pain here. Maybe you're feeling a bit run down? or coming down with something?
Well done for getting to phase 2 - did you weigh yoursel to see how much you've lost? I'd love to know

I woke up this morning and feel much better today. No headache either

I'm on day 4 so only today and tomorrow to go!

mammyto1 · 27/08/2009 08:08

Hi Squid. I have lost 4lb since Saturday - I am very pleased

I don't feel run down just achy which I think might be due to the no sugar or carbs and the toxins coming out.

Glad your headaches are gone!!!!

Squidmission · 27/08/2009 08:11

yay! well done on a great weight loss

fraggletits · 27/08/2009 12:40

HI everyone ! This thread has really taken off!

Hey Franch - definitely try and stick to a once a week weigh in as it can be so demotivating when you see a gain or a plateu. I bloat and retain water before a period and that will show on the scales so I think that's what's happened in your case. Good tip about the yoghurt in phase 1, I didn't realise that.

Welcome everyone else - that's good to know about the mayonnaise as well - might give it a go!

I went out last night, drank myself silly, feel horrid today hangover wise, but weighed myself and it's another 3lbs loss since I last weighed in, think that was 3 days ago.

Friday weigh in is a good idea

I'm doing 1 carb and 2 protein meals a day. Had bacon and eggs for b/fast, Jacket potato and cottage cheese for lunch and dinner will be fish in cheese sauce with spinach and fried courgettes

Have a great day everyone

Well done mammy Hope you feel better soon.

I resisted weighing this morning which made me focus more on how I look and feel - don't think I'm imagining it, I do feel slimmer and lighter around my stomach and muffin-tops

Fingers crossed ...

franch · 27/08/2009 12:43

Muffin tops plural sounds a bit weird ... you know what I mean, those upper hip bits of flab - love handles, whatever ...

fraggletits · 27/08/2009 12:55

yep - know what you mean franch

Squidmission · 27/08/2009 13:24

I just had lunch. I had it because its getting a bit late and I've got to do stuff but I wasn't even hungry!! Thats unheard of for me as I'm usually starving by 12.

I still don't really feel any slimmer but will find out tomorrow when I weigh in.

Fraggle how much weight have you lost in total?

Squidmission · 27/08/2009 13:26

Good news on your muffin top Franch. Mine is huge. I'd love to see that shrink and disappear

fraggletits · 27/08/2009 13:42

Hey Squid -

That's 13lbs now I think. Starting to lose track!

Definitely feeling slimmer these days, though my muffin top is still there!

Hi Ladies, I have just ordered her 3 books. The one that kicks me off is the one that has the delivery date of 2nd - 7th September with Amazon - typical! This diet is obviously getting popular. So, I will read this thread with interest and when I have got my book, I shall join you all.

YouLukaPrettyAmazing · 27/08/2009 13:55

My book is here! Yey!
I do love to follow instructions and 'rules' - so I say before I've even attempted anything. don't quote it back to me in a few days/weeks time

Squidmission · 27/08/2009 13:59

Nearly a stone down then Fraggle? wow!
How much more do you want to lose?

Hi Candlewax. See you soon

I have just made bluberry muffins with ds1. I can smell them baking and I already know that I'm not even tempted to have one
Its a miracle!

fraggletits · 27/08/2009 14:17

I've got a stone to go squid.

That's great you weren't tempted by the muffins! I don't get tempted at all these days either. It's so strange. I don't think about food anymore either. On any other diet I would literally obsess all day.

Welcome Candle wax

Enjoy the book YLPA
