Anyone doing Zoe Harcombe?

I would never have known about her had I not tried her diet that was serialised in the news of the world magazine 3 months ago.

It appealed to me because it was proper food, no calorie counting - but I was going away on hols so decided to do a kerry katona last blow out and then I'd start it when I got back.

I've bought the book and am so far 5lbs lighter and I am only on day 4 of the 5 day kickstart. Phase 2 looks really good and Phase 3 is a return to completely normal eating and drinking with just a couple of simple rules to follow.

It's brilliant. I can't recommend it highly enough. I thought I was a hopeless big dinner portion fan - a crisp and chocolate addict with alcoholic tendencies. But she has just blown all that apart for me. (It's more than just a diet - it's an explanation of why we crave things and why we feel helpless - phase 1 and 2 eliminate these cravings pretty painlessly so that by phase 3 you can eat all the things you used to but with a couple of simple rules and with a new found awareness and control over food, gained from phase 1 and 2)

She's got a couple of websites - one under zoe harcombe, one under thedietguru I think.

Hope this helps anyone struggling with calorie counting and exercise

thanks all. I managed to get through the evening with just a bowl of NLY and a fruit tea

I didn't weigh myself at the beginning but I had a good idea of how much I weighed as straining the waistbands of all of my clothes. I would estimate 9lbs to date, which is AMAZING in 8 days I am just craving chocolate, or anything sweet. I know it's because it is that time, but I still WANT it. Fruit tea will have to suffice

Squidmission · 21/10/2009 11:25

Hello everyone!
Lovely to see lots of new people.

I've still not managed to log on very often so I've not been really sticking to the diet very well.
I've tried to get back into it on Monday and have had a splitting headache for the last 2 days. I gave in and had some toast today.
For lunch, I have some roast veggies and dinner will be rice and veg.
Its a bit of a carb day but I feel like I need it.

MrsDenning · 21/10/2009 14:37

Hello squid, has it worked for you as someone who has done it for a while?
I am on day4 still sticking to it, and finding it not too bad.

I have had a very stressie day today and i wanted a coffee/cake/cigarette though gave up years ago, and could not have any found it very hard. Want wine tonight but same problem....

mammyto1 · 22/10/2009 11:09

Hi all

I haven't been around for ages as DD has been going through a peroid of getting up extremely early and have been exhasted and not in the frame for watching my diet.

Well I am still at my 7lb loss so haven't put any on.

Starting a fresh today but not quite back to phase 1.

Breakie - NLY & banana
Lunch - 2 slices of homemade bread (I have add low fat butter)
Dinner - something with mince - Anyone have any ideas, I am a bit sick of the spag bol etc.

Hope you are all having a good week and hopefully there will be plenty of losses to report tomorrow

boodleboot · 22/10/2009 11:34

going to start phase one on monday as we are away at alton towers for the weekend with kids and friends and it will be a nightmare to start this til we are back....finished the book now and totally understand that this is a really good idea for someone like me as i give in to cravings all the time. My failsafe trousers that have fitted me for five years just failed to do up....oh dear. weighed myself and am 13stone 8lbs. i am 5'9 and usually about 11 and a half stone when 'thin' - sounds heavy but looks lovely on me. HOW HAVE I LET THIS HAPPEN???? Two stone???? feeling very sorry for my self.

mammy - a nice mince recipe is hollow out a marrow sautee the mince with onion garlic tomato and stock cube, add kidney beans then stuff in to marrow and bake for 30mins. slice marrow in to discs of a couple of inches {or more} grate a little bit of cheese on top.

delicious - i do it with veggie mince and that is nice too....

HeadlessLadyH · 22/10/2009 13:57

Hello again all. SOrry its taken me a week or so to log on again to this thread.

So, phase 1 I lost 4lbs. Was so so chuffed. I really couldn't get my head round phase 2 so I more or less stuck to the phase 1 rules, bar a work night out where I had (hangs head in shame) 3 sandwiches and 3 glasses of wine. Also went to a party on sat and again the wine tempted me, but have been pretty good with the food all in all.

Have lost another 3lbs in 2 weeks, even with the "lapses". Its my birthday this weekend, so will prob have Sat and Sun off and then return to phase 1 (again) next week.

I actually have found that once you've done that first week ( and yes day 3 was def the hardest day), it becomes much much easier.

I've only 3lb to go to get to my pre preg weight now......

MrsDenning · 22/10/2009 23:20

I have stuck to phase 1 religiously and I have not lost much weight, maybe two pounds. I am a bit gutted about it tbh hence wanting to know how others have fared - I expected atkins style weightloss. Is it the NLY as a whole big tub has 28g of carbs?

mammyto1 · 23/10/2009 07:40

MrsDenning - There was a few people on the diet that did lose a large amount on the 1st week and they seen more on the 2nd and 3rd week. It will happen and to lose 2lb in 5 days is fantastic, if you were doing something like weightwatchers you would be over the moon with that loss.

I have lost 3/4 of a pound this week. Takes my total to 7 and 3/4 pounds now.

Anyone now whats happened to fraggle. Is she on holiday or fallen off the wagon completely

franch · 23/10/2009 09:03

Hi all, I'm at my parents' now and not doing well! Took a healthy lunch on the train then scoffed DD2's crisps ... Mum served breaded fish goujons and my favourite potatoes for dinner and I'm afraid I tucked in ... Then raided the Quality Street tin ....

Even before I set off I'd put on a pound this week. I'm still 9lb down but was 12lb down and can't let it keep creeping back on. Today I plan to have:

NLY
dunno for lunch - some cold meat and veg, hopefully; NLY
I think Mum's serving some sort of casserole for dinner - so that, veg, NLY.

Thanks for the support through my straying everyone. I know I keep saying this but I will get back on track. Time of the month DOES NOT HELP.

MrsD - glad to hear you've lost some weight in phase 1, sorry you're disappointed. You may find there's a bit of a delay. What are your coleslaw ingredients?

bees - remember it's not about calories!!!

boodle - beware of meat and beans in the same meal (frustrating one for me).

See you later - I will try to stay strong!!

franch · 23/10/2009 09:06

PS discovered a great instant lunch the other day (I need more of these as laziness and lack of time are a problem at lunchtime): slices of cold beef, sprinkled with salt and chilli flakes, then rolled up with raw veg sticks inside. Delicious.

MrsDenning · 23/10/2009 11:04

Ok thanks all. I fell off the wagon yesterday in a moment of despair over something else.

Just keep telling me it works .

I am back on track this am. Had chicken and pork for breakfast.

MrsDenning · 23/10/2009 14:35

Franch, in the coleslaw I put finely chopped carrot, cabbage and red onion - sometimes celery too and just stir in natural yoghurt and dijon mustard ( I generally mix these last two before adding)

franch · 23/10/2009 17:17

It really does work MrsD. Hard to keep going when you're not getting the results you wanted but just have a look through the stories in this thread for confirmation that when you stick to it, the results are amazing. Your coleslaw sounds lovely - will make that.

HarrumphingAndBosomAdjusting · 23/10/2009 19:36

mrsD- not quite sure, as don't tend to weigh myself. TBH, wasn't overweight to begin with, was more about getting back to a normal way of eating .but definately lost a few pounds. Zoe Harcombe says the weight loss sin't instant fora few people, amy be worth redoing phase one?
Has anyone got the accompanying recipie book?Go it the other day and its brilliant, especially if you're struggling for inspiration.

MrsDenning · 23/10/2009 22:34

Right I will buy the recipie book I need a boost.
Had a good day today dh's birthday but the diet lost out, not in a major way but it was a million miles from phase 1.
Thanks for the reassurance.

ok. phase one take two.....here we go.

going to make coleslaw for lunch today. will wean myself off caffeine over two days tho as the headaches i experienced doing this cold turkey were to horrific to comprehend. I really am going through a period of self loathing at the minute and really need to take myself in hand and stop this bingeing cycle i seem to have gotten into.....it makes me feel so rotten and i feel fat and frumpy as all my nice clothes are too tight and i have to wear flumpy things...boo.

Am checking out the recipe book now for some inspiration for the week and really really will try to follow this strictly.

HeadlessLadyH · 26/10/2009 12:32

Am also attepting phase 1 again this week. Had a bit of a blow out at the weekend (it was my birthday!!) so am going to try really really really hard.

One problem. Visiting the in laws Thurs - Sat and I cannot get through a visit without necking the wine. So will really try on the food front and sod it, will drink. Otherwise I will end up killing someone.

MrsD really like the sound of your coleslaw. Will try and give it a whirl. Makes lunch a bit more interesting.

Roast beef and veg for dinner tonight.

boodleboot · 26/10/2009 13:33

fookin eck.. . i really underestimated the strength of mustard powder.....i kept adding and adding without tasting waiting for it to turn bright yellow...what a numpty. Near enough blown me ed' off!!!! very delicious tho once watered down with the rest of the big pot of yog.

i nearly totally messed up tho as bought two little sweet pots and nuked them at work to eat with my coleslaw. took a bite out of one before realising they weren't allowed on phase one....balls. binned em quicksmart.

going to have salmon and garlic rice stuffed pepper tonight.

really do need to have chocolate after dinner tho so will grate a square onto some coconut yogurt....surely one square won't kill me?

fraggletits · 26/10/2009 17:11

well first day of phase 1 nearly over and I've had

bacon & eggs
Chicken with roasted peppers and tomatoes
Spag Bol with fried courgettes
NLY to snack on

Good to be back

OP posts:
fraggletits · 27/10/2009 16:17

It's quiet here at the mo.

Today I've had bacon and eggs again! for breakfast
salmon, brown rice and grilled tomatoes for lunch
Going to have a few chicken drumsticks now as I make the kids tea
Prob Pork chops for dinner.

Was a bit tempted today as the kids are off for half term and I let them have chocs and stuff today - but I resisted. I realise that I can't just cheat a little bit - it's a bit like being an alcoholic - one cheat turns into a binge every time.

Hope everyone else doing well

MrsDenning · 27/10/2009 21:24

hello, well done fraggelitis,

I have had a goodish sort of day, basically no carb but a few minor blips, but still trying

franch · 28/10/2009 11:16

boodle "I really am going through a period of self loathing at the minute and really need to take myself in hand and stop this bingeing cycle i seem to have gotten into" - that could be me talking

I've failed miserably this week at my parents' house and have totally given in - I will start phase 1 again on Mon when the kids are back at school.

Like you fraggle I'm a bit of an all or nothing kinda person.

I refuse to give up completely however which is why I'm checking in with you lot despite the ridiculous breakfast I just had

fraggletits · 28/10/2009 12:09

Hi MrsD - thanks

Boodle/Franch - me too - what's wrong with us?

I'm thinking it's the cold weather.

I've slipped into a way of thinking that this diet can be so easy and effective that I can just stop and start it whenever I like - of course the more you stop the harder it gets to start again.

I'm already mucking up phase 1 and it's day 3. I've just decided that starting it on half term week when we have nothing planned and I'm stuck in with the kids was probably not a good idea so I'm going to definitely start next week (we've got a wedding in December - my DH is best man and I really want to look nice....gah!)
