Anyone doing Zoe Harcombe?

I would never have known about her had I not tried her diet that was serialised in the news of the world magazine 3 months ago.

It appealed to me because it was proper food, no calorie counting - but I was going away on hols so decided to do a kerry katona last blow out and then I'd start it when I got back.

I've bought the book and am so far 5lbs lighter and I am only on day 4 of the 5 day kickstart. Phase 2 looks really good and Phase 3 is a return to completely normal eating and drinking with just a couple of simple rules to follow.

It's brilliant. I can't recommend it highly enough. I thought I was a hopeless big dinner portion fan - a crisp and chocolate addict with alcoholic tendencies. But she has just blown all that apart for me. (It's more than just a diet - it's an explanation of why we crave things and why we feel helpless - phase 1 and 2 eliminate these cravings pretty painlessly so that by phase 3 you can eat all the things you used to but with a couple of simple rules and with a new found awareness and control over food, gained from phase 1 and 2)

She's got a couple of websites - one under zoe harcombe, one under thedietguru I think.

Hope this helps anyone struggling with calorie counting and exercise

WSP - thank you so myuch for that....will be starting this in the morning.

i take it red bull and other caffeinated drinks are out?

franch · 11/10/2009 21:54

Welcome boodleboot. Definitely no red bull for you!

That's really encouraging geneo. You couldn't post idiot-proof recipe instructions for your aubergine and courgette thingy could you?

How are you getting on, WSP?

Well done on the loss Cesario

franch · 11/10/2009 21:55

Had a carby day today, not very organised:

porridge & blueberries
brown rice pasta with tomato sauce; NLY and a little pineapple
some crisps & Bombay mix at a kids party
kallo & NLY

Will do better tomorrow ......

boodleboot · 12/10/2009 12:17

i have begun my day with Kallo and NLY which was edible but wouldn't go so far as to say it was tasty....

i have read the whole thread now and have picked up some great tips and hints from you all. Sounds like a really supportive and cheery thread. It will be the first thread that i will have attempted to diet along with so am quite excited!!

some questions:

1.What fish would be counted as fats?
2.CAn i have smoked salmon?
3.Can i only have 50g of brown rice OR 100g of Kallo? ie no Kallo at breakfast if having brown rice with dinner?
4.If i am having fish (don't eat any other animal) does that mean i only have 50g of rice as not strictly a vegetarian?

  1. should i take a laxitive tonight to stop me getting bunged up?
  2. i have been drinking strawberry and mango tea to avoid having caffeine....is this ok?

i will do my weigh ins on a friday..

all answers GRATEFULLY appreciated....

geneo · 12/10/2009 13:06

Franch,
Aubergine and Courgette thingie!

I grill the aubergine in long thin slices and the courgettes too until brown. I do it in my Forman grill.
Pile in lasagne type dish and add half jar Bertolli tomato sauce as it doesn't have any sugar added. Or make your own.
Add mozzarella and a few basil leaves and bung in the oven for 15 mins or until cheese well melted. You can add fresh tomatoes or other herbs or parmesan cheese. Ingredients don't have to be in certain amounts just what you fancy.

I like it anyway.

franch · 12/10/2009 18:53

Ooh, thanks geneo

boodle:

  1. all fish
  2. no - it's processed
  3. yes - one or the other
  4. yes - only 50g rice if having fish
  5. I wouldn't bother - take a natural one IF you end up bunged up (I didn't - you can have loads of veg)
  6. not sure - check the ingredients - list them here if in doubt

Squidmission · 12/10/2009 19:20

I'm here Franch!

Dh has been using the pc for work. He's promised to get me a new laptop but wants me to wait for windows 7 or something or another
Hopefully thats soon because I neeeeeed to log on here. Help!

Geneo that recipe looks really good. I'll try that. Thanks

Typically, weekend wasn't great for the diet but Monday is the start again.

Today
yoghurt and granola (I know its not allowed but I had to pick up something from Pret. It was delicious and only a small pot)
Carrot soup and a salad
Chicken curry and green beans.

boodleboot · 12/10/2009 21:08

thanks franch - muchos appreciatos...

ok for lunch i didn't really have time to eat anything other than the other 50g of kallo i hadn't managed to eat at breakfast and some more NLY. i didn't eat the smoked salmon i had in fridge as hadn't heard back from anyone and just had an inkling that it was bound to be disallowed.....is it forever banned on phase one and two or does it make a comeback as being a pescatarian i kind of need to be able to eat smoked mackeral and salmon as easy and my kids adore both....

really didn't feel hungry or like i didn't have enough food but had little demon voices telling me i should just forget this silly diet and that the thrush i have been suffering with isn't that bad it REALLY REALLY has been bad...

for dinner i had some cauldran soya chunks with trout and chilli flakes and an aubergine.

lots of water to drink

will have some more NLY if feel like it but pretty mucht think i am done today

DAY ONE OVER YEEEEHHHHHAAAAHHHHH

franch · 13/10/2009 10:10

Yay! Well done boodle I think smoked food is generally discouraged as it's a candida thing.

Hi Squid!!! Glad you're back! How's the weightloss going?

boodleboot · 13/10/2009 12:40

ok. breakfast was kallo and NLY. kept me full till now with no snacks.

for lunch i am having asparagus and eggs then more NLY with dessicated coconut. coconut is ok right? it has no sugar, i checked the box....just coconut....

dinner will be salmon and chilli flakes with stir fried veg in cajun spices

have a bit of a caffeine headache today. had bad headache last night as well. its mad how bad you feel on caffeine withdrawal....that should tell us all we need to know about whether or not it is good for us eh!!

feel very happy so far tho....staying way awy from scales tho....

geneo · 13/10/2009 13:36

Sounds perfect to me boodleboot and I have never thought of putting coconut in the yogurt. Have a feeling it might be better for phase 2 as it isn't on any list for phase 1 but perhaps someone else can put us right on that.

boodleboot · 13/10/2009 13:48

believe me geneo it tastes so much nicer with a bit of coconut ....if i cant have it til phase two then i won't have it again for a bit. Even a bit of coconut milk mixed into the yogurt would be delicious....you can have that on phase one can't you?

geneo · 13/10/2009 15:00

You could well be right Boodle as creamed coconut is in the butternutsquash curry sauce. I must do a search in the book when I get home.
Unless anyone else knows?

Cesario · 13/10/2009 17:44

I have lost 9 pounds now......

beesonmummyshead · 13/10/2009 19:29

I have started today!! need to lose just over a stone, and think this might be the kick start I need. For breakfast I had NLY (revolting on its own, but can cope for 5 days until can put some fruit in it), for lunch had chicken salad (am hoping watercress is ok, as I don't much like lettuce) and fr tea am having brown rice with some raw veg (we have no kitchen at the moment as it's being replaced, an can't be bothered faffing about in microwave all night)

how much is 50g of rice when cooked? my scales are somewhere. will allow myself about a cup of cooked rice I think....???

have drunk LOADS but have hideous headache. evenings are my worst time. Will have a bath I think and read the book.

franch · 14/10/2009 09:43

Welcome bees! I sympathise on the headache. It will pass. 50g rice is about 100g when cooked. Watercress and other veg are fine.

Well done on the loss Cesario!!

I slipped up with 2 slices of cake yesterday. Really need to do better. In all I had:

porridge & blueberries
lunch at a friend's: chicken casserole (I left the rice) & salad, followed by said cake (made by me so I didn't want to make a big issue of not eating it - but there was no need for me to have seconds!!) & blueberries
lamb curry & veg; NLY

Am out for lunch and dinner today.

Squidmission · 14/10/2009 10:02

Well done Cesario! thats brilliant

Hi bees. You'll definitely get a kick start with this diet.

Franch I'm plodding along. A bit of loss, bit of gain but generally staying the same. I need to really focus on this now.
I have ordered Paul Mckennas I Can Make You Slim book and cd (tesco direct £3.86) for some extra support
I was inspired by the thread and I remember losing some weight years ago quite successfully by listening to his cd (Those were the days - I was probably only about 7lbs overweight and thought I was fat! )

Yesterday was ok
fruit and nly (I know fruit is not really allowed but I was at work and hungry)
buternut squash soup, salad
Handful of nuts as I was feeling very hungry
chicken and spinach

Today is/will be
porridge
butternut squash soup
meal out

boodleboot · 14/10/2009 12:26

nearly vomited in the office whilst eating NLY and Kallo this morning . I had to get the yogurt out and just put some coconut in....

have just had tuna salad with boiled egg, olives and sundried gourmet merchant tomatoes. no additives or anything in them but need to be rehydrated before addin them. I tasted the water that i had used to hydrate them in....mmmmmmmmmm absolutely delicious, just like tomato soup except so clean tasting! will be hydrating more just for drinking purposes.....!!!

dinner will be a vegetable thai green curry made with coconut milk and zaffir leaves and other spices....sainsburys do a kit that is very 'pure' so to speak....i will have the rice with it too.

i am dying to have some chocolate....85% and over natch but as on phase one will really really tryyyyyyyy not to do it.....i am really missing dessert.....

am headache free today - yippeeee. also feel much less bloated. definitely feel like something is working!

i am making parsnip and carrot crisps tonight: using peeler to make long strips then baking with chilli and ginger flakes for about 25 mins on 200degrees....will dip them into NYL and cucumber.

geneo · 14/10/2009 14:57

Boodle, those crisps sound delicious, what size are the strips, just tiny?

boodleboot · 14/10/2009 16:57

just made them. they were lush. using a peeler push down harder than you would usually for as thick as you can get long strips. Make sure you lay them on baking sheet in single layer and keep an eye on them. 25 mins too long actually....mine took about 20 mins. some were very crispy and some not as crispy but they were really tasty.....

beesonmummyshead · 14/10/2009 21:35

hello! I've jsut completed day 2 of phase 1. No headaches at all today, and I have tonnes more energy, and no appetite at all!

Actually I think I know why I have no appetite, and that is because I have no kitchen, and therefore no ability to cook, so I am eating salad and meat, or (vile) NLY for each meal - yesterday I microwaved brown rice for hours, but onight there was a fair in our town so I had hog roast. Without the stuffing, or apple sauce. just pork in a pot Was relatively pleasant if you like meat I guess!

Here's hoping both the kitchen and phase 1 are finished soon.

Boodleboot your crisps sound DELICIOUS. If I am lucky I may have an oven tomorrow. Although an oven without a worktop is pretty useless...

HeadlessLadyH · 15/10/2009 11:31

Hello ladies.

First a big thank you for drawing my attention to this diet. I'd nver heard of it and then when I read this thread, I thought I must try it!

So I did Phase 1 last Mon - Fri and lost 4lb. I had some white wine over the weekend but managed to keep to the food rules and thought I would start phase 2 on monday. Am finding that a bit complicated so after one day have reverted back to phase 1 again, albeit DH has been making me coffee with caffeine and a bit of milk in the past three mornings. And I may have sneaked 4 or 5 minstrels yesterday .

But weighed myself today and have not lost a lb this week?? Surely it can't be the one cup of caffeine and drop of milk? Must try harder.

Quick question though. I hunted for creamed cocunut this morning. Nowhere had any locally and I need to do the curry tonight. I found coconut milk with only extract of coconut meat and water in. Do you think that would be ok? There are no additives at all in it?

Its really inspiring to read this thread so I've just been lurking for the past week. Well done to all of you so far! I hope only to lose about another 7 lbs. Do-able, right??

boodleboot · 15/10/2009 13:24

have just started the most evil period i have ever had....its my first post Ectopic pregnancy last month so really really pleased to see it but feel vile vile vile.
I had to cheat slightly with the yogurt this morning as NLY was making me heave. i had some onken fat free sugar free strawberry live yogurt....had to

for lunch i have just had a prawn sprinkled with spices on watercress and baby leaves and olives and sundried tomatoes. very nice it was too....

this eve i am going to have another thai green curry as that was soooooo delicious last nite.

i didn't have chocolate yesterday even tho i really wanted it! may have to tonight tho as it just feels wrong to have a period and not eat chocolate!!! i don't drink alcohol so at least i don't have that temptation....

everyone is doing really well - this feels like it could be a really good supportive thread and already has had some great weightlosses documented!! pleased to be at the five day mark tomorr tho....my book still hasn't arrived tho which is frustrating.....

can someone enlighten me a bit about phase two? what and when can i reintroduce some stuff???

thanksxxxxxxx

boodleboot · 15/10/2009 13:27

obviously i didn't just have one prawn.....i had prawns....

franch · 15/10/2009 17:18

Hi all, still haven't regained my momentum but am still here and getting inspiration from you all. Am not straying too far and will get back on track I promise.

Welcome headless

I'm surprised at people finding NLY unpalatable. What kind are you eating? Not the set stuff is it? I have Yeo Valley full fat which I love. boodle you know you don't have to have NLY? I think you'd be better omitting it altogether rather than having processed flavoured yogurt which may have a lot of additives in?
