Anyone doing Zoe Harcombe?

I would never have known about her had I not tried her diet that was serialised in the news of the world magazine 3 months ago.

It appealed to me because it was proper food, no calorie counting - but I was going away on hols so decided to do a kerry katona last blow out and then I'd start it when I got back.

I've bought the book and am so far 5lbs lighter and I am only on day 4 of the 5 day kickstart. Phase 2 looks really good and Phase 3 is a return to completely normal eating and drinking with just a couple of simple rules to follow.

It's brilliant. I can't recommend it highly enough. I thought I was a hopeless big dinner portion fan - a crisp and chocolate addict with alcoholic tendencies. But she has just blown all that apart for me. (It's more than just a diet - it's an explanation of why we crave things and why we feel helpless - phase 1 and 2 eliminate these cravings pretty painlessly so that by phase 3 you can eat all the things you used to but with a couple of simple rules and with a new found awareness and control over food, gained from phase 1 and 2)

She's got a couple of websites - one under zoe harcombe, one under thedietguru I think.

Hope this helps anyone struggling with calorie counting and exercise

just cooked fish in passata for dinner:-

v easy...
fry a chopped onion in a large wide pan,
and garlic,
pour in passata (or chopped tomatoes),
flavour with basil, thyme, or a little soy sauce,
pop in some fish- cod is ideal,
serve 8-10 mins later with lots of veg (peas and carrots are good with this)

my DDs love this too

mammyto1 · 08/09/2009 18:16

Hi all, you all sound like your doing very well.

Welcome to the new comers and good luck.

My chest is still sore today and I have truely fallen off the wagon since the weekend! We start at phase one again when I feel better!

Hi everyone
Day 2 of Phase 1 and I have had:
Kallo and NLY
Tuna and egg salad
Chicken stir fry with loads of chilli flakes
Craving fruit today but have resisted - I even went to my friends and she had bought us a massive fresh cream cake each...I DIDN'T EAT IT!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe it normally on whatever diet I was on I would just tuck in and think about the consequences later but had no desire to eat it at all....weird!!!
Am now off to Asda to get some more fresh veg for tomorrow's tea.
Welcome to the newbies

RinkyDinkyPinky · 08/09/2009 19:42

Well done Dizzy- great will power!

Squidmission · 08/09/2009 21:50

Well done Dizzy! You'll be so glad you stuck to it when you weigh yourself on Friday

Welcome to the newcomers.

Today I had
porridge
tuna salad
nly
chicken and spinach curry.

I'm tired today so am going to veg on the sofa for a bit then go to bed.

Keep up the good work everyone

Squidmission · 09/09/2009 14:11

Bad day today!

I had my usual porridge this morning and then have been rushing around. I didn't have much time to prepare and have lunch and ended up having a salad sandwich. Bread is definitely a trigger me as now I have had some cereal and 2 biscuits as well!

I've got chicken for dinner so I'm hoping to be back on track now.

mammyto1 · 09/09/2009 15:34

Squid at least thats still pretty healthy!!

I have had shredded wheat and banana for breakfast
Lunch - plain jacket potato

And the someone brought in cakes to work and had a slice (oops)

I am thinking of make a thai curry tonight. Still on phase 2 at the mo but will start phase 1 at the weekend.

How is everyone else doing?

fraggletits · 09/09/2009 18:38

Hi everyone -

Squid and mammyto1 that's not that bad - you didn't exactly go off the rails!

I've been good today but feel really bloated for some reason. It's not constipation or period so don't know what it is. Stupidly weighed myself again this morning and I'm the same as yesterday - don't know what I was expecting to see on the scales! Haven't had NLY for a while actually so maybe that's it.

Had dry kallo for bfast
bacon and onion omelette for lunch
Going to have roast chicken and cabbage and courgettes for dinner.

Hopefully feel slimmer tomorrow.

Have a good evening everyone

SQuid, I had a similar experience with wheat and ended up eating muesli. So I've been avoiding it and will find a rye bread or wheat free version when I'm ready.

DizzyBrunette · 09/09/2009 20:05

Evening all
Today I have had:
Bacon and tomatoes for breakfast
Tuna and egg salad for lunch
Salmon and veg for tea
I've been quite hungry today so have snacked on boiled eggs and olives. I am craving something sweet now real bad. I'm dying to weigh myself but am waiting until friday morning - I don't feel like I've lost anything tho
How is everyone else doing?

Squidmission · 09/09/2009 20:24

It went a bit downhill from there! I ended up eating more cereal, slice of toast and some of ds1's crisps.

Rinky its good to see I'm not the only one! I am now going to be strict about avoiding bread. That definitely seems to be my trigger and I do love and crave the stuff!

I'm popping out to the supermarket to get some provisions so I'm better organised tomorrow.

Fraggle I'm giving you strict instructions to not weigh yourself except once a week
Have you been drinking enough water? It'll help with weightloss and reduces bloating.

Dizzy stick to it. I was feeling exactly like you and didn't even think it was working but ended up losing 6lbs in phase 1!

fraggletits · 10/09/2009 09:04

You're right squid! My water drinking has lessened a bit so I will up that. And I'm only going to weigh myself once a week - it's silly to do it everyday, you can really put yourself off.

Have a great day everyone

Hi everyone

Keep at it Dizzy, you're doing so well!

Your fish dish sounds nice Rinky.

Thing with the water is, I've been drinking loads BUT I now wake up in the middle of the night, every night, bursting for the loo, and then can't get back to sleep. Getting very tired.

Last couple of days' eating:

Porridge with blueberries
Gorgeous SE Asian meal out: lamb curry and an aubergine dish (hope the ingredients were ok)
Brown rice pasta with ZH's tomato sauce, + green beans

Porridge with blueberries
Meat chilli from the freezer with the beans picked out (!); salad
Leftover pasta (very early tea - a teddy bear's picnic with DD2 )
Kallo (later on)

DD2's birthday today - yesterday I made and iced 36 fairy cakes, counted out how many we needed for school and tea, and froze the rest to avoid temptation. Actually right now I don't feel tempted altho it may be different when everyone else tucks in at teatime. Think I'd rather save my treat for her actual birthday cake on Sat tho.

fraggletits · 10/09/2009 11:44

Happy Birthday to your DD2 Franch - hope you have all have a lovely day

Good on you for doing all those Fairy Cakes!

OP posts:
franch · 10/09/2009 12:23

thanks fraggle

She has requested fish fingers and chips for tea - I'd normally binge a bit on those - am doing skin-on wedges and roasted veg, and will have a little feast with them.

mammyto1 · 10/09/2009 13:11

Franch - Happy birthday to your DD. Hope you have a good day/night.

I have had a slice of cake again - oh crap. Still not feeling wonderful so blaming it on that

Had shredded wheat for breakfast
Thai veg and rice for lunch
Then cake
and dinner will be something with eggs

DizzyBrunette · 10/09/2009 14:08

Happy birthday to your DD franch - hope she has a lovely day.
I'm feeling really rubbish at the mo with a really bad headache that even paracetamol won't shift I'm seriously considering a cup of coffee with milk to see if that helps even tho I know I shouldn't as I'm still in Phase 1.
What's the weight loss like in Phase 2? I don't know whether to carry on with Phase 1 for another 5 days or to go into Phase 2, I do find Phase 1 restrictive but am going up to in laws next weekend and want to lose as much as possible before I go (it's gonna be hard to stick to Phase 1 as we do enjoy a few drinks and good food when we get together)

Squidmission · 10/09/2009 18:26

Happy birthday to your dd Franch
She shares a birthday with me!

Ds1 and I made some birthday cupcakes too and I have to admit to having 1, er I mean 2!

Dizzy if you feel like you really need the coffee, I say go for it. I couldn't face giving up coffee and I still have 1 cup a day.

Today;

porridge
tuna in a tomato and veg sauce
cupcakes
thai prawn curry, salad

mammyto1 · 10/09/2009 20:43

Happy birthday squid!!! hope you have a good one

Squidmission · 10/09/2009 21:23

Thank you Mammyto1!
I'm out wih friends tomorrow night so I'll be off the diet in the evening.

franch · 10/09/2009 21:24

Thanks for all the good wishes and a very happy birthday to you Squid!

Will let you know tomorrow about phase 2 weightloss Dizzy! Saw my mum today and she said I'd lost weight

Today I had:
porridge, blueberries (got a bit of a blueberry thing on at the moment)
veg soup; wheatfree rye bread; fatfree NLY with blueberries
DD2's birthday tea: avoided the fish fingers and had a filling meal of roast veg & potato wedges. Considered a fairy cake then decided I didn't want it enough ( what a new experience!). Have just put it in DH's briefcase for him to have at work tomorrow

Very carby day but hopefully OK ... We'll see tomorrow ...

hambler · 10/09/2009 22:59

happy birthday squid and Franchlet.

Day 5 of phase 2 here. Sticking rigidly to the plan!
Must say I don't feel great. Weak and tired.
Mr hambler feels even worse and is actually very hard to live with - the original bear with a sore head

weigh in tomorrow!

fraggletits · 11/09/2009 07:28

Morning everyone -

Hambler - fingers crossed for a result for you. It's a shame you and DH have suffered so much.

Happy Birthday to you too Squid - have a great night tonight

Weighed myself again this morning. Thought it'd be rude not to on weigh in day! But, I'm still exactly the same as I was 3 days ago. So - I am going to continue phase 1 next week I think plus do a bit of exercise, up the water and only weigh myself once, next Friday. Got an engagement do to go to next saturday so I want to shift at least another 3lbs.

Have a great day everyone

I've not been around this week largely because I'm ashamed at how much I have been breaking the rules in week 2 only. However,I have still lost another pound, bringing it to a total of 4 pounds so far, so I'm quite pleased and determined to do better next week.

Well done the rest of you. I do admire your will-power. Hope you feel better soon Hambler.
