I have finally been shamed to get off my lardy arse and to start that diet I have been promising to do. I have a good friends wedding in 3 weeks and have found a skirt to wear that needs about 7 - 10lbs off, and we are going on holiday in 9 weeks. So the plan is a food diary and any suport - or feel free to ignore me! I am going to do different things as and when I feel liek it, but this week is calorie counting and a food diary. Approx 1200 cals plus 1/2 pt ss milk (unsure cals in that!)

So here goes

Breakfast 2 weetabix 129 cals (milk from allowence)
Lunch Big bowl salad 50cals, 100g prawns 77 cals, dressing 15 cals
Snack Melon and grapes 100 cals
Dinner tonight Ready meal (under 350 cals) massive bag of veggies 150 cals, Muller lite 115 cals
Leaves me with 200 cals for whatever

I decided to be really lazy and buy some ready meals that are already counted and bags of veg (kids are at childminders so no worries there) then I have MY food and know exactly what I can have

Wish me luck

OK here's my after lunch post.

No gym today, I wanted to go to town and get some more ready meals!!

I had an M&S prawn layered salad for lunch - big bowlful of yummy prawn ocoktail and pasta and salad only 350 cals the lot. With my regular weetabix thats still just 479 so far. I've got an apple (70 cals) for this afternoon and stuffed red peppers (180 clas) and veggies inc new potatoes (225 cals) that will be 954 cals still room for a pack of Thai bites (109 cals) AND a WW rice pudding (109 cals)

I have to say I am finding you can eat more than I thought really, and factoring in treats is a new thing for me. I have always avoided crisps or puddings if I was on a diet, but this way I get 3 meals and about 3 snacks and still keep under the 1200 cals (+ milk allowence) a day

I am used to SW where you can have loads and loads of FREE food, but not much else nice

When i am sick of ready meals I'll try something else. I still haven't been to Sainsbury's so I have a new selection there to choose from. Tesco's and ASDA both had a few I liked, M&S had a couple, but not a great selection at our local one. I'll see where I am next Thursday, hopefully i'll have lost about 2.5 kgs by then or 5.5lbs!

Just to say my first week averaged to 1185 cals per day so I kept under the 1200 mark. I am fine today and tomorrow, just trying to work out Sat as I know I will eat loads at the Hen night, but I don't want to starve myslef before I go otherwise I'll get pissed too quickly. Hmm Perhaps I should save my milk allowence to line my stomach Eat a couple of fried eggs and still have a salad at lunch. Then have a night off?

Any better ideas?

Thanks Dior, I probably should but if I am good as can be while still having snacks and puddings, then if I have a blow out (like sat eve will be) I won't have ruined everything

Basically it gives me a buffer zone against one bad day which is bound to come

How's it gone today Crunchie?

crunchie · 08/04/2005 19:01

Good day so far today, I did have a frui scone for breakfast (no butter) so I am counting 300 cals, M&S prawn salad for lunch 350 cals, and that's i so far. Except a pinch of grated mozarella while putting on the kids pizas!!

Tonight I have mushroom risotto 380 cals, veg or salad 100 cals (ish) so I have had 1130 cals, so not really any spare for a pud or snack, but I might treat myself to a choc mousse

Tomorrow the kids want to go to McDonalds! but I think I will try to have a salad at home instead and the milk before the hen night

blimey I'm very impressed with your will power

crunchie · 08/04/2005 19:17

Well we are still less than 2 weeks in. I know I can lose the weight, it's keeping it off

However this diary is really helping as I know I can write about what I am eating, and this stops me going wrong. Also I know and can plan for nights off

Ok an update of yesterday. As expected the day was OK, the evening was terrible I lost count of the glasses of wine, didn't eat much of the three course meal (wasn't that nice really) but came home and ate a pile of malt loaf and a huge pint of tea But it was a one off.

Today I haven't been that hungry tnh and s far have drnk loads of tea and a slice of bread 100 cals. So that'll make up for yesterday.

OP posts:
vict17 · 10/04/2005 19:36

that's really good - normally after a night of drinking i'm ravenous and eat anything and everything

crunchie · 11/04/2005 10:02

All in all yesterday I had one slice bread (100 cals), prawn rogan gosh (161 cals), mashed potato (homemade so no true idea - guess 250 cals) veg (100 cals). Tzatziki (100 cals) and Ryvita minis (110 cals) 1/4 pot of choc mousse (30 cals). Total 851 cals for the day. That should make up for Sat night.

I am going to the gym this lunchtime agian, and yesterday I spent a couple of hours gardening. Tomorrow I am off to London with the kids and my mum and dad, so it might be hard depending on where we go for Lunch. With lots of walking though it should be OK.

I think I'll have a weigh in today to see how we are doing, hopefully another 0.5 kgs. I have to do it in KG's as the gym has those dr's style scales and I have none at home (they broke)

Hiya Crunchie glad to see you are doing so well - it really keeps you on track having an MN diary doesn't it? Everytime i feel like cheating i think 'how do i explain that to mn?' lol

How do you know how many calories to have and how much each thing is?
Atkins is making me feel very sick today and the cravings for sugar are unbearable!! I'm starting to wonder if maybe i stick to very low carb and count calories but still walk i can still get the results.....

crunchie · 11/04/2005 10:32

SF the way I am doing it is by ready meals!! It fits into my life becasue I'm veggie (unlike my family) therefore used to doing separate stuff. I work full time and the kids eat at the childminders in the evening so I don't have to make their food. DH eats c**p in the evening so I am on strike and don't cook him a meal, unless I feel like it

So basically i am having weetabix for breakfast at work with my milk allowence, lunch a salad and whatever I bring in (actually v atkins as no carbs!!), a fruit snack mid-pm. A ready meal and HUGE pile of veg for supper (been getting bagged veg, just to help the counting) and a pudding of muller lite of WW mousse or whatever. Also snack of Thai-bite or Ryvita minis. If the lunch is a huge prawn salad (about 200 cals) and the ready meal is under 350 cals (plus veg) I am eating around 1200 cals a day.

However I am sure I will get bored of Ready meals (I still haven't been to Sainsbury's) so i have another few to try, and then I think I might try something different - weight watchers or slimming world or GI - for a few weeks. I know me and my body and I LOVE my carbs, I couldn't do atkins at all. But I also know what fills me up, and I am totally full from 2 weetabix and lots of milk ( I use all my allowence almost 1/2 pt) and a huge pint of tea (no milk) until lunch. I could do porridge instead, but cannot do it at work.

Good luck with whatever you choose, like I said this fits my life at the mo, also by buying 3 or 4 days food at wonce, I never have a problem of looking in the fridge and wondering what I have to eat I am also keeping at least 200 cals for snacks - crisps/pudding - as they are treats. But I am not drinking wine, which I normally would do

Keep it up Crunchie! You're doing really well, especially impressed by the low calorie-count post-hen night.

crunchie · 11/04/2005 21:15

OK today is going well-ish. Usual breakfast (129 cals) lunch prawn salad - without the prawns (they were off ) (100 cals if that), strawberries (80 cals).

When I got home a very weak gin and tonic - sitting in the sun and thai bites (50 + 110 cals). ready meal and veg with potatoes (575 cals) So far - 1040 cals. Still space for a pudding

I also went to the gym, 25 mins power walking 300 cals

Tomorrow I am in London with my kids and mum and dad, Lunch will be tricky depending where we go.

Update for the day. Still doing OK, went to London tody with my dd's. Walked loads

Didn't have time for breakfast, had a skinny latte (milk allowence). Lunch I had a salad with a small amount of dressing. Smeone told me to dip your fork in the dressing before each mouthful rather than drizzle all over. Therefore you hardly use much. I am allowing about 300 cals for this. Ryvita minis (103 cals) on the way home and I am going to tuck into Mushroom stroganoff and rice and veggies tonight, about 500 cals ish.

Yummy still got 300 cals to go!! However London again tomorrow so I might try to be good.

Hopefully Thursday I'll weigh in again and update you all how the first 2 weeks has gone. Just 10 days until the wedding, then an extra 6 weeks until holds. Lets hope I can get at least a stone off by then - maybe more if I am lucky

OK snother good day, well with the help of this thread. I couldn't face admitting a whole pack of bath buns in 5 mins could I? The guilt would have been too much

So today, a rasin scone no butter - 300 cals, M&S salad - 270 cals, pack onion rings - 70 cals, pack fruit salad 160 cals = 800 cals.

Ready meal - cottage pie - is in the oven, with veg andother 500 cals, and I have the leftover fruit salad for pudding.

Tomorrow I've got my 2 week weigh in, hopefully it will be OK. Wish me luck

I was really sruggling last night. I was trying to work out what makes me overeat, but I can't. I mean I wasn't exactly hungry but I REALLY REALLY wanted to eat something I can deal with hunger pangs, but what I find almost impossible to deal with are those cravings for 'something'

How do I get round those? I can distract myself to a point, but it is like a compulsion. I am sure I am not the only one, but this is what sabotages all my good work. Last night I finally craved and ate a small bit of left over pasta with some Dairylea light melted on it Could have been worse, I guess it was about 150 - 200 cals and I didn't have my milk allowence.

I mean when you are pg then you get cravings, but what is it that makes me crave carbohydrates.

OP posts:
crunchie · 14/04/2005 11:59

Bump, must be someone who can help?

OP posts:
Arabica · 14/04/2005 17:48

Answering from personal experience here. Are you really hungry for food or is it an emotional hunger that's making you eat? Sometimes it's incredibly hard to see the gap between having the beginnings of a difficult feeling and getting the compulsion to eat, but believe me, if you aren't physically hungry, then there will be a reason that you want to eat that's actually nothing to do with food. For example, I'll often find myself rooting around the fridge when I'm supposed to be making a work phone call.

Arabica · 14/04/2005 17:50

Am hoping my last post makes enough sense. The 'something' that you are craving almost definitely isn't food, but you've trained yourself to look for food when those feelings come up, and the reaction is so automatic that you don't have time to consider what you might be feeling and deal with that instead.

lilibet · 15/04/2005 18:00

Hi Crunchie - glad it's going ok. I've started doing Paul Mckenna with Kayleigh (well, we're not actually doing Paul McKenna, we are following his weightloss plan!) and in there is a thing to turn you off cravings which is very very strange - it involves tapping various bits of your body. Neither of us have done the tapping yet - I'm waiting for a craving that I can't beat!
