OK, my ds was born a year ago. I didn't get very big whilst I was pregnant but had quite a big baby (8lbs 10oz). I am back to the weight I was before pregnancy but I wasn't happy being this weight in the first place so not satisfied and seriously have no body confidence!

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be a size zero or anything, could never be less than a 12 as my hips and shoulders are broad. I am 5"8 and currently weigh exactly 13 stone which classes me as over weight with a BMI of 28. I'd like to get down to 11 stone which would give me a far healthier BMI of 23.

Trouble is, I have no idea where to begin. This last week i have been cutting out the crao (eg fried stuff, snacks Buger King etc!) and have been eating veg and drinking fruit smoothies. Haven't been weighed yet so not sure if it's working but I do feel better.

The problem is I'm bloody starving!!! I think about food constantly although I don't want to eat it as I really want to look and feel healthier.

Is it true that no diet ever works? If I start eating normal amounts again (minus the burger king and snickers bars) will I just put it all back on again?

I went on a diet 2 years ago with a starting weight of 12lbs 12oz, got down to 11st 4lbs and felt much better, problem is, I got lazy and soon headed back to burger king and ate just for the sake of eating. It's time to STOP!!! I am 24 and my body makes me feel crap sometimes. I don't want to be skinny but surely there is a way to shift the blubber round my legs???? My waist is fine, that's the nnoying thing, my waist is a size 12 but my arse and legs are at least a 16 so i look completely out of proportion and struggle to get clothes to fit well. The waist on all my jeans is massive on me but the legs are bulging at the seams. I just want to be in proportion. Any ideas? Any good excercises or simple diets where I won't fantasise about cooking our dog and eating him as I'm so hungry??!

Greyskull - your feeding routine sounds identical to mine

bythepowerofgreyskull · 05/08/2008 18:13

probably why I am overweight but I am going to start tomorrow morning with a long walk and some museli - see how I get on.

EustaciaVye · 06/08/2008 07:27

Ok, not a good start as still had toast and marmalade with a cuppa but I'm going out later so will try and fit in a walk in the middle and make sure I dont have a cookie in the cafe.

Shannaratiger · 06/08/2008 07:34

Thanks for the link EV.
Can I join too.

Went to get dressed yesterday and I couldn't fit into my jeans. I find measuring inches is a much better guide than weight. Muscle weighs 3 times more than fat and looking slim is the ultimate goal anyway. Unfortunately DD has lost my tape measure but when I find it will come back with details.

So far this morning have:
Drunk 1 big glass of water.
Had tea with 1 tsp of sugar rather than 2
Had strawberry porridge porridge with 2 tsp of brown sugar rather than 2 heap dsp.

Paul McKenna's 'I can make you slim' gives some really good advice about comfort eating etc. borrowed it from the library but is on 2 week loan only as doctors refer overweight patients to it ( fairly good recommendation)

Am also going to do my thigh trainer everyday. Last year I managed to lose one whole trouser size in 30 days for my sisters wedding, was chief bridesmaid.

Sorry this post is really long and waffly, porridge is now finished so had better get off computer and do something

BBL when I find the tape measure.

EustaciaVye · 06/08/2008 07:38

Ok, I will go and have a glass of water.

What's a thigh trainer?

Shannaratiger · 06/08/2008 07:49

Lateral Thigh trainer is basicaly a stepper but it's designed so it excercises every muscle at teh same time. Basicaly a full body workout in 25mins. I brought hand weights £10 Argos, started at 0.5kgs and am now doign 1.5kgs easily. They really tone up flabby arms.
You can now buy it from most sports shops.

EustaciaVye · 06/08/2008 12:38

Thanks Shanna, will look into it. My main problem is motivation though so I wonder if I'd buy it and not use it

bythepowerofgreyskull · 06/08/2008 18:17

haven't fitted in my 30 minutes exercise today been busy running round after the boys and the kids at the school holiday club so that has to count for a bit ?

had bowl museli for breakfast
cheese sandwich and 2 strawberries with coffee for lunch
coffee and 1 biscuit for afternoon snack
half a little pot of Jelly whilst boys had their tea
sadly not alot of food in the house so we will probably get a takeaway

think I will try to do measurements as well as weight as I agree with Shannaratiger that it really is the wardrobe full of clothes that I can't wear that gets me down more than the numbers on the scales.

how do you make strawberry porridge EV??

EustaciaVye · 06/08/2008 18:31

Lol. That's shannara with the porridge. I wouldnt have a clue.

I've eaten well today (so far) but no exercise.

I will try and come up with a plan tomorrow for diet, exercise, targets.

bythepowerofgreyskull · 06/08/2008 18:59

no takeaway but still not good Dh is cooking taod in the hole with veggies from the garden.
we are overloaded with corgettes (sp?) and beans

Shannaratiger · 07/08/2008 06:28

greyskull porridge
I have half cup of porridge: 1.5 cups of liquid, either 1 milk, 2 water or 2 milk, 1 water. Add fruit, chopped bananas, strawberries, dried fruit are all lovely. Boil and cook for about 3 mis.

EustaciaVye · 07/08/2008 08:47

Ok, So I am going to try and:

  • Reduce treats to 1 per day.
  • Drink more water.
  • Do some form of 'proper' exercise every other day. This may be walking, yoga, swimming etc. But I mean abit more than chasing after the kids.
  • Reduce portion sizes.
  • Have a snack at DDs tea time and eat less with DH at 8.30. (as opposed to huge mealk very late as I'm starving.
  • Reduce number of post-dinner snacks. I feel the need for sugar in the evening.
bythepowerofgreyskull · 07/08/2008 08:49

Thanks Shannara
I make porridge alot for the boys but don't like it myself, I think adding fruit into it may help with the texture bit that I don't like.

Have had a bad night and reverted to type this morning with coffee and bread.
Having route canal dental work this afternoon so I guess I'm not going to be eating much tonight that will help with my calorie intake.

EustaciaVye · 07/08/2008 08:56

Ouch Greyskull. Think of it as start of detox

meandmyjoe · 07/08/2008 08:59

Wow, lots of new people! Welcome! Nice to know we have eachother for support. As I said earlier, it was ds' 1st birthday on Tuesday and we had a party on Saturday, I've been binging ever since .

I find once I've had a couple of days of healthy eating, it's easier and there is more incentive to keep it up. It's starting it in the first place I struggle with. I keep putting it off, even though I lost 3lbs just after I started this thread, I'm sue ds' birthday has set me back to the weight I started at! Ahh well, time to dust myself off and try again!

Hi all. I'm 5' 7" and was 12 stone 12. I want to get down to 10 stone something (even if its 10.13 ). I've lost just over a stone so far (was 11 stone 10 oz this morning). I've cut right down on carbs for evening meal (but still have some during the day), smaller portion sizes, lots of water and got a wii fit.

The wii fit is brilliant because I can do half and hour or so whilst dd naps in the day and its now part of my daily routine. I sometimes do more at night when dp is home (he's still trying to beat my score on the step class ). I would really recommend them

EustaciaVye · 07/08/2008 09:02

Hi there, I have a wii fit and love it but finding it difficult to fit in now its the 6 week holidays. Hope to resume properly in September.

bythepowerofgreyskull · 07/08/2008 09:05

Excellent Tilly I now have the perfect reason to tell DH that we can justify buying one.. he doesn't believe they are anything more than fun!

TillyScoutsmum · 07/08/2008 09:37

DP wasn't keen on us getting one - he was convinced it would sit in the corner getting covered in dust (I do have a bit of a past history with wasting money on exercise - gym membership etc.) but because you don't have to leave the house and it is fun (and you get to see results), I'm actually using it more than I thought I would. Its addictive and the real bonus, I don't have to inflict my lovely sweaty, beetroot coloured, post exercise face on any random strangers

twinkleymum · 07/08/2008 20:38

Hi everyone, can I join in? I want to lose 2 stone as well. I'm still in my maternity clothes and DD is 9mo its really getting me down. For me, I think the problem is lack of exercise as I spend most of the day following DD crawling about trying to stop her getting into absolutely everything! I cant leave her at all so spend all day sitting in the lounge. However, its our wedding anniversary today and I've been a bit naughty eating chocolate .

I'm hoping to take out a gym membership, not sure if this will work but I'm hoping it doesn't end up being a waste of money! I'm hoping that posting on this thread will motivate me to go as I'll be ashamed if I don't, so keep asking me. Lets see what happens...... I'll be back Tuesday.

Hi MAMJ, long time no see.

EustaciaVye · 07/08/2008 22:43

meandmyjoe · 27/08/2008 08:55

Hi all,

Sorry I've been away for so long, I started this thead and then buggered off and ate . I completely screwed up my diet and was ashamed to speak to you all lol! I'm back anyway!

I have lost 8lbs so far but still no where near as much as I'd like!

Hope you had a lovely wedding anniverary Twinkley, it was our 2nd wedding anniversary yesterday and I was very good and ate fairly well. DH cooked a lovely healthy meal for us and it was lovely. Although I did spoil myself with a rather large glass of wine.

Hope you are all doing well and that your diets have been more successful than mine!

Hi, well MAMJ you were very good on your anniversary and that is excellent that you have lost 8lb!! I've not been very good and I still haven't been to the gym which is why I haven't posted on here, too embarrassed. Hoping September will bring more will power! I haven't put any weight on though so that's better than nothing I suppose....
