ohm mustrunmore - how is that possible when you do so much excersize? How discouraging :

( I still have not weighed myself, as my ate forgot her scales the other night. I feel like I have lost a bit - not lots though (and the scales may prove otherwise). I have been slack with excersize, but realy trying to keep on top of snacking. We are leaving in 3 weeks, so lots of eating and parties which makes it tricky! I'm sure I wont meet my target before I go, but if I can lose a little that would still be good.

opens door and peers in..

Can i join? I am currently 11stone (down half a stone since feb), still need to lose between 7-10lbs if poss.

It would really help motivate me to be in a gang and have to confess to a weigh-in.

Oh, and dh is working away until Sept, so I don''t have to make (and eat!) a main evening meal as well as nursery tea for the dcs every night.

weeindie · 13/07/2008 18:14

Another joiner here - I'm 5'4" and weigh about 10st 8lbs right now - wnat to be 9st 10 ish. I've just started to go to the gyn but only manage 30 min workouts, maybe 4 times a week. Enjoying it though so should manage to keep it up.

I REALLY strugggle to lose weight since my two DDs and hace been losing the same blinking 4 pounds, then re-gaining them for about six months... .

I'm weighing in on Fridays too as Monday weigh-ins are always v. depressing after weekends!

My BIG weaknesses are red wine and haribo style sweeties ( not at the same time...)

Astrophe · 13/07/2008 20:38

mmmmm, haribo. (welcome )

We are fairy disorganised...nobody has actually done a weigh in yet I don't think. A few of us don't have scales. I will use my mates tomorrow night wehn I babysit her DC.

Hello All,

Welcome Weeindie and Slouchy, yes I agree with Apostrophe we are disorganised fairies ! Well I have some success to repoort weighed myself on Thursday at MIL's, I have lost 1 kilo!!!! In about 2 ish weeks I think because I I'm not very organised about when I started this, but let's get better, this Friday for weigh in.
Oh....Just did a quick kilo to lb converter on web and discovered 1 kilo is only 2.2 lb, I thought it sounded like more. Well every bit counts I suppose. Does anyone know what is a normal/reasonable/good amount to loose in a week?

weeindie · 14/07/2008 12:24

I'd say 1 kilo is the advisable amount maximum a week - I'd want more but actually get a hell of a lot less, normally.

I made myself go on the scales at the gym today to see if mine were accurate...bit silly really, in trainers and after drinking a bucket load of water...will def try and only weigh myself on a Friday morning.

So far today:
1 slice toast with flora light

banana sandwich

apple

3 of my DDs wine gums..eeek!Want more, want more!!!

3 Large mugs of tea ( addicted ! )

All that seems fine but it's the evening that are my big problem. Each night when kiddiwinks are in bed, I feel I need a reward of some sort...normally red wine or the aforementioned gummy sweets...

RubiMama · 15/07/2008 08:42

Thanks, 1 kilo per week will be my target then. I haven't done so well the last few days as we're out of food (which should be a helpful thing!) but it means making meals out of spaghetti and toast from the freezer - not together I might add! Going to Market today to buy loads of fresh fruit and veggies though to help me get back on the wagon

KatieDD · 15/07/2008 09:05

Hello Ladies,
I have a stone to lose which I think just cutting out the chocolate hobnobs might achieve, so no more of those in the basket this week.
I think eating small meals regularly is the key plus lots of running and swimming.
Good luck to us all, the summer holidays will be tough if like us you'll be eating at kids places a lot.

Astrophe · 15/07/2008 14:22

TBH, I have often read that 1/2 kilo or 1 lb is the best amount for sustainable weight loss. I have (not recently!) managed more (closer to 1 kg / 2 lb), but not every week. Apperently slow and steady gives your body a chance to adjust, rather than your body getting and shock and slowing down metabolism as a defence mechanism.

wabbit · 15/07/2008 17:21

hello - may I join? I'm kicking off with the Special K slimmer for summer challenge - mainly as dd has thrown down the gauntlet and said she'll do it with me.

Today is our first day
Stats: I'm 5'4" and weigh 10st 10lb, body mass index of 25.1 my ideal weight would be 9 - 9 1/2 st

So far today we're both on track

dd said she'd like to join thread too (is that ok?)

Stats: she's 5'3" and weighs 12st 13lb, body mass index 31.8
She's really happy with her curvy body but I have asked her to consider losing a bit of weight and doing some exercise for her health. She's nearly 17 and I don't want her to get faddy with diets and food but think the two week challenge would be a really simple way for her to start thinking about nutrition and excersise.

wabbit · 16/07/2008 13:23

"hello??"

So - day 2 of the Special K challenge

Last night we had lean Spaghetti Bolognese (small portion, home made, all good stuff) with big green salad (with avacado cos i think you need some fats)

we're drinking lots of water (and there are lots of complaints from dd about how frequently she's needing the loo )

Have got Davina on DVD and just giving it a run through to see what I'm letting myself in for!

RubiMama · 16/07/2008 20:13

"hello hello....." No its not the sound of your own echo hello wabbit, welcome. I just checked your profile, I'm a fellow fan of Mog!!! Also a teacher but long to write children's books instead, the work in progress is on the back burner since I've had DS.

Apostrophe, thanks for yr advice about amount to loose in a week. I'm sure your right that the slower we do it the more sustainable it is, I just really want to do it this time.

wabbit · 17/07/2008 00:10

Hello RubiMama
Oh! the backburner... it's a desolate place for our creativity!

But... day 2 of the challenge has gone well

weeindie · 17/07/2008 10:14

Hello Wabbit - crikey - I'm a teacher too but yearning to escape. Once my jobshare and I calculated just how many chocolate cakes we would need to bake and sell in order to escape...needless to say, it wasn't the ideal career change.

My week has gone downhill, diet-wise. Have avoided the gym and reverted to a red wine ( or 3) last night after a trip to Lidl - they had some good stuff on offer. Now feel a bit jaded and MUST force myself to get to the gym today...porridge for brekkie...soup for lunch..

weeindie · 17/07/2008 10:20

Rubimama and wabbit what breed of teacher are you?

wabbit · 17/07/2008 14:11

Don't be throwing any stones ... Steiner Waldorf Kindergarten (student) teacher

I'm just downright hungry today (makes me stroppy)

weeindie · 17/07/2008 14:19

I haven't got the strength to throw stones - I've only had a bowl of porridge and a banana so far...running late for lunch - I'm starving too .

weeindie · 18/07/2008 08:01

weigh in anyone?

RubiMama · 18/07/2008 10:15

Hello, No weigh in for me yet today I have to go to MIL's later today to weigh myself (in secret in the bathroom, I'm one of those people who never confesses to being on a diet, especially to MIL!. Will post weight later but I he a feeling after last weeks miraculous kilo I won't have budged, or even worse, crept bck up. Been eating more bread and wine this week. WHY is it we all post these sorts of things? Why can't we STICK TO IT! Not slurring any of you, speaking mostly for my self of course

Weeindie, I am (was) a primary school teacher, Early years trained but teaching Year 2 for the last few years. I don't work now I've moved to greece and had DS (5mo). How about you? - Sorry for tangent everyone - I loved teaching AND loathed working in schools. Would love DS to go to Steiner school Wabbit, there isn't one in whole of Greece!

RubiMama · 18/07/2008 10:16

Sorry, Hello too to KatieDD

weeindie · 18/07/2008 10:55

Well 1 pound off - now 10stone 8lbs. Not bad considering I had several gummies last night.

Now trying to drink green tea as I've heard it speeds up metabolism - any one else heard this? It's quite yummy, although I would definitelt prefer a cappucino and a kitkat

I'm also sorry about the tangent about teachers - Wabbit and RubiMama - I'm a secondary English teacher. Like my job in amny ways but the stress factor is just huge. Luckily, I have the summer to recover!

RubiMama · 18/07/2008 11:55

Well done for the lb, every step counts! Yes, I have heard that Green tea can boost metabolism. But it's caffeine loaded so I can't drink it while BF. I'm on Chromium supplements, they also get your metabolism working more efficiently.

4madboys · 18/07/2008 12:14

jumps on board, i weigh about ten stone and ten pounds, i had got down to 9 stone ten pounds but a stone crept back on as i have had pnd and stopped bfeeding, have been comfort eating etc etc...

anyhow i have started doing my davina dvd and am planning on going swimming once a week (tho the pool is shut for repairs at the moment) and am now trying to watch what i eat, cut out the chocolate and snacks etc....

soo good luck everyone and well done for those who have lost so far

btw ds4 is now just 4mths, they say 9mths on and then 9mths to get back to normal, i was nearly normal and then it all went pear shaped, but i want to get down to between 9 and 9 and a half stone i figure the first stone should come off in about 2months? if i lose it at a sensible rate? so if by the time he is 9mths i can get down to 9stone ish i will be happy

toadette · 18/07/2008 12:31

Hi, can I join in too. I seem to have spent the last few years losing and gaining the same 10lbs and they're back on again! Weighed in this morning at 10st 3.5lbs. Want to be 9st 7lbs but would be happy if I lost a half stone in time for our holiday in a month's time. Have done Slimming World and Weightwatchers in the past, they work but I find the lbs creep back on because once I fall off the plan I tend to really blow it and eat/drink nightmarishly with a 'I'll start again tomorrow...' (tomorrow seems to take weeks to come around though, oops).

So my plan is to start over again after this weekend. Not going to follow a diet as such, hopefully just concentrate on healthy eating, lots of fruit and veg etc and regular exercise. Would be great to join in with this thread for motivation as I have woeful willpower on my own.

wabbit · 18/07/2008 16:51

Hello 4madboys and toadette Toadette, I think we're aiming for about the same thing, it's just that my extra weight hasn't just been here for a few months, it arrived within moments of me realising I was PG with ds (eating for two) and bless him, he's nearly 3!

I thought I wouldn't make it through yesterday, I just seemed to be starving all day - then I had an enormous salad for supper and it seems to have boosted my resolve

Special K diet going well today - just about to chop up carrot sticks for my afternoon snacklet!

My weigh in will be on tuesday... I use the talking one in Boots... it seems to SHOUT it's instructions calling for all and sundry to have a neb at what I weigh!!

Are there any alternative schools in Greece? like Montessori Rubimama?
Enjoy your summer break - i can imagine it's well deserved Weeindie
