Longest ever

And the weight is just going up.

No fizz, or cake, some biscuits.
I've had Eggs, chicken. Salad leaves
no dressing. Tea. Skimmed milk. Wine 1 night a week. No bread. No crisps. 1 chocolate bar a week

Any ideas ? I'm at my wits end.

No wine. No biscuits.
Eat high protein / high fibre - fill up on these foods.
No UPFs
Get enough sleep.
Drink 2 litres of water every day.
Track your calories on MFP - work out your TDEE then eat 500 less.
Aim to lose 1-2lbs a week. Remember weight fluctuates - it will go up and down, but you want the overall trend to be down.
Seriously do the above for a month and see if it helps op.

Pregnant

despite all the exercise and generally ‘good’ food, you are consuming more calories than you’re burning. It’s usually that simple.

I have also been overweight whilst exercising loads and eating ‘good’ food. It’s highly achievable if you have a big appetite, regardless of age.

Use an online calculator to work out your calorie needs and then create a deficit. It’s very depressing but if you stick to it, it works - and exercise helps a lot (but don’t factor it in to the calorie calculations.)

OctaviaLemon · 20/05/2026 08:41

Cut out the 15% “not good” food.

Portion control on the “good” food. No calorie laden dressings or sauces.

What does “work out on my own” entail?

Barring some vanishingly rare health issue, weight gain is caused by ingesting more calories than you are using….or pregnancy.

FavouritePhotos · 20/05/2026 08:41

Have you worked out your BMR and TDEE, logged literally everything you consume?

Hace you tried fasting? At 49, you have a slow metabolism and you're simply consuming more calories than you're burning

Being hungry isn't bad for you. Try eating only once a day. It's really good for your gut health too. It'll be really hard at first time but you'll get used to it.

Nonsense. The best way to fail on a diet is to cut out anything you enjoy and restrict yourself completely.

Work out your TDEE. Measure your calories and eat 500 cals less than your TDEE. You'll lose weight. It's literally science.

motuhb · 20/05/2026 08:47

I'm not pregnant as no sex since last period.
I'm not tracking calories, will start
My own exercise is cardio - 40 mins to 1hr stair master and tredmill mix, with gradient. Slow and and steady. Eg tredmill level 12 speed 3.8.

Are you lifting weights with your PT? Edit to say I’ve just seen your are - could be this.

DD is slimmer than she has ever been but weighs more - she is gaining muscle and has been training for 2 years now. I am maintaining my weight but clothes are baggier and my waist is smaller after 4 mths (I’m 52 and peri)

Kitt1 · 20/05/2026 09:06

Are you measuring yourself? Are you actually getting fatter or just heavier? Which areas are increasing in size?

What are your portion sizes like? As we get older and hit menopause, it seems to interfere with our ability to metabolise food as efficiently and I have to eat far less just to maintain, let alone lose weight. That’s why WLI have been a life saver as they help speed up the metabolism.

Fukinell · 20/05/2026 09:08

Stop the personal trainer for 2 days a week and start mounjaro!

thisisajoke22 · 20/05/2026 09:11

Are you calorie counting? Guarantee the 15% of food that's 'not good' is taking you from a calorie deficit to above your maintanence calories, hence the weight gain. Find out what your deficit calories should be using an online calculator and track your calories 100% for 4 weeks. You'll see a difference. It's hard at first but does become second nature

motuhb · 20/05/2026 09:18

thanks all. Lots of things to try.

I look and feel like a fat pig.

I have worked so hard with the PT and at the gym. I am up at 5.15am every week day working out. I am worried about the health impact for WLI. I've not measured myself, I find this really hard to do .. eg how do you know you are measuring the EXACT same circumference of your thigh ? and keeping the tape measure tightness like for like each time ?

I would have thought that a few treats each week would be ok, seeing how much exercise I am doing ... but I will cut these out.

OP posts:
motuhb · 20/05/2026 09:21

The PT says I need to eat 30 mins after working out to fuel/repair muscle .. but I do want to try fasting and not eating before 1pm. I am not sure what to do for the best.

right now I feel like giving up on food altogether, I am so upset at the weight increase day on day.

GirlFromMontmartre · 20/05/2026 09:25

Surely your shape must be different though? Thats a huge amount of exercise

RandomMess · 20/05/2026 09:30

Also if you are gaining muscle then that will counteract the fat you are losing.

Also keep an eye on your thyroid.

motuhb · 20/05/2026 09:42

I have no thyroid and take levothyroxine for it. The medication was reviewed 2 months ago and the dosage lowered, pending a blood test to check the new levels.

I'm sorry you feel like this....this is my battle. I have gone away on a break with husband and all I can think about is how fat I am after I let myself enjoy myself for dinner, wine and breakfast.

As another person pointed out, calories are too high, unfortunately. I did strict keto, no wine, bread, pasta, fruits and very select vegetables. I lost 5 stone and then nothing. I hit a point where I was eating too much even though it was all 'good' proteins, greens and fats.

Gym 5x week and cardio 3x.

Doing less gym now but doing calorie restriction, losing, again.

Clearingaspace · 20/05/2026 09:51

So frustrating to be working so hard without the results. Honestly I think some people, myself included, have to log all calories - particularly if you want to include an occasional wine and chocolate bar. A couple of hundred calorie can be the difference between loosing weight and gaining weight.

More recent studies have suggested protein can be absorbed across a 24 hour period so you probably dont need to worry about the eating 30 minute after workout thing unless you feel good going that.

I am surprised pt has you doing weights 5 days in a row without a rest day, maybe look into this a bit as 4 days a week with the pt should be fine? Apparently you build muscle when uou are resting. Are you getting enough sleep? Insufficient sleep has been shown to prevent the body building muscle and push towards fat storage.

CarelessWimper · 20/05/2026 10:21

Have you been taking photos? I would take regular photos.

If you are on a deficit of 1000 calories a day Monday to Thursday and then go nuts on Friday to Sunday and in a surplus of 2000 a day then you will gain, so you do need to watch the 15%.
