I'm in!!
In January last year, I was 16st 9lbs / 105.5kg / BMI 42.9. I am so ashamed to even write that down. By the beginning of September I was only down to 16st 1lb / 1.02kg / BMI 41.4. I was really unwell in September and completely lost my appetite, and couldn't eat for about three weeks, so that was my kick start and I started calorie counting. I am now at 14st 4lbs / 90.7kg / BMI 36.8. Still shockingly high numbers, but heading in the right direction.
I am kind of in the groove, eating wise, but want to focus on doing some exercise. I have bought a vibration board, and a walking pad, and last Christmas my son got me an under-desk cycle machine, which unfortunately was largely ignored by me 🙄(and then I wonder why I'm not seeing any difference in weight or body size!) and I have a smart hula-hoop. I'm setting alarms on my phone to remind me to cycle for short bursts throughout the working day, from when I'm back at work (I work from home).
I have been doing Japanese walking every other day on the walking pad, which is basically what we, as kids, used to call "walk a pole (lampost), run a pole" and which I think is a bit like Couch to 5K. Thirty minutes walking, starting and ending with three minutes of very slow walking, and alternating with three minutes of fast walking. I don't know if it's going to work as well as the adverts say, but it definitely won't be doing any harm, so I'll keep up with it. On the days that I'm not Japanese walking, I will be walking at a steady pace whilst watching TV rather than sitting on the sofa, vegetating!
I use the vibration board four or five times a day, or 10 minutes at a time. I can definitely feel muscles vibrating when I'm standing on it, but whether it's doing any good, is anyone's guess.
I'm starting a 12 week course on wellness and introduction to exercise, which was a referral from my GP, so I'm hoping that that will help me on the way, then I might be more confident about starting a gym.
I had a look at Jamie Kinkeade's Walkdance as mentioned by @Introvert80 - I felt exhausted just sitting watching it, so I think I will definitely need to modify the movements until I build up some strength.
Good luck to everyone on the thread and fingers crossed for some inspiring success stories over the course of the year
