Petite support thread... continued

All petites are welcome on this thread, but it seemed like it would be particularly helpful to have a corner of Mumsnet for those of us who are petite/small framed and officially a 'healthy weight' but know we feel/look better a few pounds lighter (which would still be within a healthy weight/not underweight).

Maybe we can share goals, progress, struggles, things that are working, etc.? It would also be lovely to hear from any petites who are at a 'happy weight' and what you are doing to be successful.

Feel free to share as much or little as you like. Height, current weight, goal weight or other body measurements, nutrition, calories, exercise, NSV, etc.

Well done for confronting it and getting back on board - I’ve not been brave enough yet.

That sounds quite some salad but if it has lots of good stuff in it and is nutritious then it’s not so bad, just maybe don’t have a mince pie to follow 😄

Ha too late, that’s exactly what I did! But tbf I’m trying to get rid of the tempting stuff in the house so I can start fresh on 1st.

yeah the salad had leftover deli and cheese board in it as well as lots of good stuff so I think that’s what cranked up the calories, but it was delicious.

Sweet stuff is definitely my nemesis but also portion control. When I gave up alcohol years ago I developed a real sweet tooth as I was missing the sugar and it took years to wean myself off eating bags of sweets!

I still haven’t braved the scales yet Blush I can tell I’ve put on weight the last week just by my clothes and looking in the mirror Sad Yesterday and today Ive been fairly good, fasted for 18-20 hours and been more mindful of what I’ve eaten. Plan to do the same tomorrow and then relax and treat NYE like another Christmas Day Blush as we’re getting a take away and I have lots of nice wine I want to drink/ chocolate I’d like to eat!

I think I’ll get back on the scales when I get back to work next Tuesday. New year, new start and all that!

PeachesMcQueen · 30/12/2025 12:58

Weighed myself this morning, 3lbs on! But I have been overdoing it on chocolate, wine and baileys. I’m thinking the same, get New Year’s Eve out the way, we’re having a celebration dinner, then back to the routine on 5th Jan. I’d like to get down to 7stone 7 so I’ve 5lbs in total to lose.

Fathomless · 30/12/2025 14:46

I don't know if there's a correlation however I'm seeing some small weight loss with the Berberine patches from Kind patches. I'm down to 9st2lb and that's without other changes and also eating unpredictably over these 2 weeks whilst off work and being more sedentary if anything. I'm really hoping the patches are working!

ETA just looked back on the thread and have seen I was weighing 9st6 on the 23rd, and I know I was almost 9st7 after that so I'm pleased about the weight loss. 😀

Iloveleaveinconditioner · 01/01/2026 16:37

Braved the scales yesterday and 2lbs gained Sad had the biggest Chinese takeaway last night and lots of wine…so more weight gained no doubt Sad

Fasted for 20 hours today and am going to try and be really mindful over the weekend and stick to eating healthily, even though usually I relax at weekends.

Praying it doesn’t take me months to ditch these few lbs!

CherryBlossom2025 · 02/01/2026 11:49

Happy New Year, everyone. Welcome to the new joiners.

I’ve had a complete break from tracking calories on Nutracheck since Christmas Eve.

I’ve weighed myself fairly regularly (when at home) over the last couple of weeks and have been averaging, according to Happy Scale, around 8st6.

I’m sure I must have been eating more calories than usual (a few days with extended family and my Mum’s homemade mince pies!), but I’m not actually sure.

I’ve still averaged around 20,000 steps most days and done a few Caroline Girvan weights workouts.

I had been given advice on Nutracheck over the past few months about maybe increasing my calories (even though I’d ideally like to get to 8st) but had been worried about gaining weight.

I think I’m going to try a bit of an experiment over the next 3 days and continue with just eating as I have been whilst not tracking, but then try to track the foods afterwards to see how many calories I’m naturally eating. I’ve set my calories to maintenance (a huge 1765 calories according to Nutracheck!) but I’m not going to particularly pay attention to that number over the next 3 days. I’ll then review on Monday what my weight is, how many calories I’ve been eating and what might be a good amount of calories to aim for in January.

Does anyone have any thoughts on my plan?

Fibrous · 02/01/2026 14:51

@CherryBlossom2025 that sounds like a good plan to me? Maybe you know how much to eat.

I'm on day 2 of tracking everything on MyFitnessPal. I paid for the premium version so it could suggest a menu to me but I found it all quite uninspiring. I'm doing veganuary so my diet is pretty limited this month anyway. I had a big kale salad for lunch but it really missed the cheese element. I'd have thrown a lump of stilton into it usually. I think I'll batch cook a vegan bolognese tomorrow night, there was a recipe in the guardian that looked good. MFP says to eat 1330 calories a day for a 0.5kg/week weight loss. I'm going to try to stick to that for January at least.

I am currently 58 kg. I ran 70k in december and did 22 caroline girvan workouts so I kept my fitness up even if I have gained a couple of kilos (which I can definitely feel on my gut and thighs). I'm going to start the new caroline workouts on her app on sunday, run four times a week, and do Charlie Follows yoga every day. January isn't that busy at work so I should be able to fit it all in especially if I do a batch cook dinner once a week.

BogRollBOGOF · 03/01/2026 10:55

63.5kg this morning. Pleasingly in my regular range rather than a spike and I'm not feeling bloaty.

I was creeping to the odd 62+ before Christmas, and hopefully shouldn't be too hard to start seeing those again when routine is restored.

Greendiamondbee · 03/01/2026 13:24

Happy to find this post and would love to join. I weighed myself 4th December at 8.8, today, to my surprise I'm 8.11. I thought my binging cheese and chocolate would've been much worse. Back on it today as I feel bloated and my skin is dry and grey. GW no lower than 8.8, my happy place.

Fibrous · 03/01/2026 13:30

I’m feeling cold and empty on 1300 calories per day. Gonna go and have a bath to warm up. I usually eat a lot of salads but without all the fatty additions they just aren’t hitting the spot. Think I’ll go to the shops later for some hearty soup ingredients.

MylipstickiscalledHugMe · 03/01/2026 14:20

I really hear you @Fibrous and doing veganuary at the same time as low cals must be an extra challenge.

I was always cold until in the last few years when I had a personal trainer for 6 months and put on a lot of muscle (luckily didn't gain weight so it must've converted from fat). Since then it's really surprised me how less cold I am. I barely do weights anymore, though I should, and I'm still less cold, it's such a relief.

TappaMcFeety · 03/01/2026 17:12

I was remembering earlier how much easier it was to reduce calories and ignore that hunger, even up until my late 40s. I always knew the first couple of weeks would be difficult but eventually my body would get use to it and adjust.

It just doesn’t seem to happen that way anymore and I often find myself giving in to that tablespoon of peanut butter or small handful of tortillas in the evening, and its all these extras that are stopping me from losing that extra layer of squidgy-ness around my middle!

I've been buying a couple of bags of mixed casserole/ soup veg each week and blending them to make a batch of soup to freeze. Pretty low effort and means I'm 3 mins away from heating something warm and nutritious to keep me going.

I've got my batch of the term to cook today. I've gone to Costco and bought a big pack of chicken and a big bag of mince, and some veg and cook those up with a bit of basic seasoning and then they're easy to reheat and add sauces to to vary them up through the term. It gets the grunt work of standing around chopping and cooking from raw out of the way, but it's not having umpteen versions of the same meal getting too repetitive.

With the cold weather, the ingredients are chilling out on the conservatory floor rather than the fridge Grin
(I think it's actually colder!)

Hello everyone I’ve been absent from the thread as I’ve been indulging a fair bit. I had a stressful week before the Christmas break began which triggered some comfort eating, and then the Christmas/NY celebrations gave me an excuse to keep going!
Anyway, I am back and motivated by your talk of batch cooking and exercise.
School reopens tomorrow so I’m going to start using the 6 hours to basically sort my life out and build healthy habits!

Fibrous · 05/01/2026 09:25

DP is veggie so in theory it is easy to batch cook as I find pulsey things freeze pretty well. I just need to double up our recipes more often. I’ve made some nice dhals and soups in the last couple of days that warmed us up.

Im down into the 57.x kilo range now and feeling less flabby already so at least it’s working.

Hoolahoophop · 05/01/2026 10:03

Morning All,

Lovely to see lots of positive attitudes and ideas on the thread. I have managed to put of 3kg over December. So have a lot of work to do. Started with Porridge this morning and have a (tinned) soup for lunch. Pasta with the last of the Christmas ham for dinner and then the fridge is mostly clear of Christmas extras, just some cheese left but that makes a nice Sunday night tea if its actually tea and not an extra!

I'm not going to put too much pressure on to start, will try to get some healthy daily 10 min exercise habits going over the next couple of weeks and slowly reduce the calories. When it warms up a bit I hope to get running again. Might try to find space in the house for the rowing machine (we moved to a smaller house so at the moment its propped up against a wall).

Good luck and a Happy and Healthy New Year to you all.

HolidayBrochure · 05/01/2026 13:57

So many times I’ve said I’d re-join this thread but I think I’m definitely back this time!

current weight 9stone and a quarter of a lb. Height 5’0.

Fibrous · 05/01/2026 14:39

welcome @HolidayBrochure !

HolidayBrochure · 05/01/2026 15:00

Thank you @Fibrous ! I was on the old Shorties thread under another name, SwimmingonEggshells or something was my name at the time :)

What is your plan and target?

I've started logging my food on myfitnesspal and I'm trying to get a 5km walk in each day or at least 5 days a week.

Fibrous · 05/01/2026 15:10

@HolidayBrochure I'm using MFP and trying to stick to 1350 calories per day with a focus on fibre (at least 25g/day). I do lots of exercise anyway so will just keep that up. I don't really have a goal weight in mind - I just want less lard. I'll know when I get there 😀I'm 5'1" and 57.5kg at the mo.

How about you?

PeachesMcQueen · 05/01/2026 22:25

First day back on track for me, total weight gain over Christmas was 4lbs.
Today I had Greek yoghurt with oats and fruit and honey, then a pasta dinner with sausage/tomato/veg sauce. I only did 70g of pasta for me, perfect size portion.

PeachesMcQueen · 05/01/2026 22:27

I’ve also been trying to drink less coffee and more water, but when it’s cold I just crave coffee and hot chocolate.
I know what previous poster means about feeling so cold you just want a bath to warm up.

LostittoBostik · 05/01/2026 22:30

Just found this thread and this is definitely me. I had lost a few pounds just before Xmas and was starting to feel more comfortable again but I think I’ve just undone all the good work…

HolidayBrochure · 06/01/2026 11:45

@Fibrous sounds very similar to me. I started tracking with MFP yesterday and I hope to be able to keep it up. Many years ago I lost over a stone using Nutracheck but I've never been disciplined enough to stick at it.

Other things I'm trying to do:
5km walk x 5 per week
No to low alcohol
Weigh myself regularly - if I don't weigh myself it means my diet has gone to the dogs
Update my weight in my spreadsheet and also in MFP
Log my food in the morning for accountability
