Petite support thread... continued

BogRollBOGOF · 20/10/2025 21:07

All petites are welcome on this thread, but it seemed like it would be particularly helpful to have a corner of Mumsnet for those of us who are petite/small framed and officially a 'healthy weight' but know we feel/look better a few pounds lighter (which would still be within a healthy weight/not underweight).

Maybe we can share goals, progress, struggles, things that are working, etc.? It would also be lovely to hear from any petites who are at a 'happy weight' and what you are doing to be successful.

Feel free to share as much or little as you like. Height, current weight, goal weight or other body measurements, nutrition, calories, exercise, NSV, etc.

I went into peri at 40, too. Didn't do HRT myself, but oddly, the metabolism change didn't really kick in until three years ago. I got hairier before I got fatter.

Hairier and fatter - gosh ageing is a challenge isn't it! Though true beauty is on the inside of course :D

I always wondered what it would be like to have a beard. It is getting to the point where, if I left my chin hair, I would be a bearded lady, lol.

HolidayBrochure · 20/05/2026 13:09

Lol at the beardedness, I’ve definitely noticed my face has more downy hair on it but I think that might be down to my red light mask?

@ObelixtheGauli also dipped below 9 today, yippee. 8st 13 and a quarter I think it was.

food was ok yesterday, mostly fruit and a few olives during the day and then a chickpea curry with brown rice for dinner

today I’ve had a coffee, a huge amount of carrot salad for lunch and dinner will be brown rice and halloumi stew thingy.

exercise-wise I’ve walked 9km - 7km on my walking pad while working and 2 after I dropped the kids off.

I desperately want to lose 7lbs before my holiday in mid-July 😬

Just catching up on the thread

@Iloveleaveinconditioner Wow - well done! Thanks also for sharing what you’ve done to achieve such brilliant weight loss. I have a follow-up question to your post… you say you eat 1200 calories Mon-Fri and more at weekends. Do you have a rough idea how many calories you think you eat on a Sat and Sun?

Well done to those who are seeing progress and sorry to hear some are struggling. I’m pleased we have this thread to share our successes and challenges.

I’m now heavier than when I last posted! I’m around 8st11 now. However, I started taking creatine just over a month ago and apparently it can cause some weight (water) gain. I’m really hoping that’s the reason! Can anyone confirm that?

I’m getting increasingly frustrated with my tummy fat. At 5ft2 and 8st11, I’m not over weight but I am
a really typical apple shape and it seems like over the last couple of years (since I turned 40), the tummy fat is getting worse.

Sorry @CherryBlossom2025 only just seen this.

I don’t really track calories at the weekend tbh BUT, I still fast (unless there’s something on which means I can’t) until about 2/3pm each day, but after that, I’ll eat/ drink what I want. I’d say probably anything from 1700-2100 at the weekends (a lot of that will be wine calories as I can easily do a bottle over a weekend or just on Saturday night alone!)

Iloveleaveinconditioner · 20/05/2026 19:41

Also, well done to everyone on your losses Smile as a PP said, it’s nice to have a bit of life back on the thread again, bit of motivation/ solidarity!

HolidayBrochure · 20/05/2026 22:50

Wine on the weekends is my downfall @Iloveleaveinconditioner it’s probably why I’ve seen next to no progress, eeek

all and all today was a good one: coffee in the morning, big carrot salad for lunch, and then chickpea stew with halloumi and brown rice for dinner. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten so much fibre, definitely works at keeping me satiated for longer.

Thank you @Iloveleaveinconditioner That’s really helpful. It sounds like you’ve found a structure that’s really working for you. Well done!

Wow - it’s been a busy thread this week! Lovely to hear everyone’s updates.

I’m still averaging 8st11 this week. I was trying to convince myself that maybe some body recomposition is happening, even though I’m not happy with my weight on the scales. However, I’ve just put some shorts on that are definitely tighter on the tummy area than last summer! (Oh dear!)

According to my Nutracheck data, I average 1500 calories per day. That is the average, so there are often days that are much lower and then maybe slightly higher at weekends. I was averaging 1300 calories this time last year, but I have deliberately gradually increased calories to try to help with body recomposition as I was around 8st4 last year, but still with as much tummy fat as now. I’m definitely lifting heavier dumbbells (just at home workouts) but maybe I need to reduce my calories again. It’s so tricky - I also average 20,000 steps per day, so don’t think it’s sensible to go too low with calories.

Hope everyone’s having a good bank holiday weekend. It’s lovely weather here!

Fibrous · 24/05/2026 16:02

Hi everyone, I’m checking in for the first time in months. I have gained a few kilos - I’m up to 60kg. We’ve been in the house buying/selling carnival since the start of the year and it’s really affected my routine. Still no end in sight but I’ve pretty much depleted my cupboards of food in anticipation of moving and we’ve had a lot of takeaways these last couple of months. Anyway, summer is here and my shorts no longer fit so it’s time to put some effort in. Hopefully we will get clarification on a move date soon. The stress and uncertainty is hanging over me like a layer of lead. But the new house will have a pantry and a garage so I am dreaming of healthy meals and setting up a home gym!

Hoolahoophop · 25/05/2026 07:33

Hi all. I've not weighed myself recently or counted calories as I've had some hospital treatment and decided what the heck eat yourself well. But after half term I hope to get back to it as I'm definitely heavier than I wanted to be over summer.

HolidayBrochure · 25/05/2026 11:14

They say moving is one of the most stressful things you can do so it’s no wonder it’s been difficult @fibrous I’m sure you’ll get into the swing of things once you’re settled.

I hope you’re recovering now @Hoolahoophop I also turn to food when I’m feeling poorly. It’s impossible to diet when you’re sick!

@CherryBlossom2025my maintenance calories are 1350 which is absolutely nothing imo, do you lose weight on 1300?? I have to half starve myself to lose weight.

food intake wasn’t amazing for me this weekend but I briefly went down to 8st 12 and a quarter the other day with the day after back up to 8 st 13. I find I fluctuate all over the place but once I see a number I haven’t seen in ages I know it’s a good sign. Does that makes any sense?

Although food wasn’t great this weekend, I walked my little legs off- I did over 12km on Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully that counterbalances the excess somewhat!

eurotravel · 28/05/2026 00:00

Today’s conclusion is that going to gym has built my muscle mass and toned me up the fat sticks ! So weight not going down

HolidayBrochure · 28/05/2026 09:02

@eurotravel I find when I start exercising after having not done anything for a while means it takes ages for me to see changes which is disheartening but I keep reminding myself it’s water retention and muscle gain. Believe in the process!

All going ok here. I’ve been managing to eat very little during the day, normal dinner and then nothing afterwards. I’m slightly hungry going to bed but if I’m not hungry going to bed it generally means I’ve overeaten. Sad but true unfortunately.

Down another quarter lb today and now about to do my 5km walk.

MylipstickiscalledHugMe · 28/05/2026 09:37

Morning all!

I've lost faith in my fancy pants Renpho scales as my weight varies by 2.5lbs depending how carefully I step on them. So I'm going by measurements, specifically around the bum (widest part).

Am down 1/4" since last measured about a week ago, and I'm taking that as a win as it's a stubborn area.

Food-wise I'm eating more "mindfully" by planning nice meals and snacks rather than eating at random as before. The way I make it work is thinking I want to get more enjoyment from food (hence bypassing my willpower problem).

ObelixtheGaul · 28/05/2026 09:54

I don't know if anyone else will find this helpful, but recently, after a period of constipation, I upped my fibre intake. Naturally some of my bloating went down, but I also noticed the number on the scales dropped, hence my excited post of making it back into the eights.

I may not have been fully emptying my bowels for a while. Sorry for TMI, but a good daily clearance seems to be really helping. Obviously, to get to my 8 stone 5 goal is going to take more than that, but it's reduced my 'pregnant belly' look a bit as well.

MylipstickiscalledHugMe · 28/05/2026 11:07

Ooo what types of fibre are you having @ObelixtheGaul ?

I forgot to mention above but I'm using psyhillum husk to reduce my appetite and it works! (a level teaspoon plus lots of water about 30mins before meals)

Tmi - haven't noticed any bathroom changes.

I've upped my fruit intake, not too massively, just making sure I have a handful of blueberries/ an apple or a couple of plums daily. Also (and I know it's a UPF, but it works) a small bowl of Bran flakes. Mixed nuts in small amounts, including more mixed beans in main meals.

It's easy to lose fibre when dieting, because a lot of fibrous foods are quite calorific or no-nos if you are doing keto.

HolidayBrochure · 28/05/2026 13:37

That's a definite win @ObelixtheGaul, it can't be good for you to be bunged up like that. I don't have any issues in that regard, but I've upped my fibre too - soooooo many salads and lots of apples as a snack.

That's annoying about the scales @MylipstickiscalledHugMe, I'd be pissed off! but big plus that your arse is smaller 😆

So I did 6km on the walking pad and I ran the last km....then....I weighed myself again before my shower and wahey - down another half a pound! it's probably just water weight but it was such a boost to see 8'11!

BogRollBOGOF · 29/05/2026 07:44

I had a good weigh in yesterday which was a nice surprise. Probably boosted by an active weekend (although I wouldn't have blogged about the food), a long run the day before and forgetting to take creatine for a week, but I was the best part of a kg lighter than I expected!

I seem to need long runs to make enough difference to me. First they are a big calorie burner and second, long and slow tends to be "fat burning" zone rather than off blood sugars.

I'm definitely stronger than a few years back as carrying water containers up and down hill was much easier than it used to be and was comfortably carrying 2x 10l (20kg) of water from the tap to the pitch. That's worth being heavier than 10 years ago!

Can I join? I am 5 ft 1 and have No discipline.
need accountability and help!

I used to be so good at eating well. Now I am
so tired and end up using sugar to survive.

might try fasting to start with.

MylipstickiscalledHugMe · 03/06/2026 12:55

Hi @birdsintrees I'm exactly the same re discipline.

Is fasting working? I always get too hungry unfortunately.

One thing I'm considering is paying an online fitness coach to have a weekly check in call for accountability. Has anyone tried this?

thislittlebird · 13/06/2026 09:51

Ok I’m back to check in before my holiday! it’s been a challenging few weeks tbh, struggled with discipline, snacked a lot, raging 40 + hormones etc. I started the first week of March properly

SW: 63.9kg
CW: 58.7kg
GW: 57kg

I’m finally starting to look better in clothes. Would have liked to have got to 9st by holiday but at least I’m back to 9st 3, which is where I was pre-pregnancy.

thislittlebird · 13/06/2026 09:53

@birdsintrees I’m also 5’1 with a bird in the username, welcome aboard!

The only fasting I can do is overnight. I try to push through from 9/10 until 11/12 the next day and it does seem to help with just keeping my overall calories lower because once I start eating I struggle to stop picking at food for the day.

birdsintrees · 13/06/2026 09:56

Yay to the birds !

I manage some days and not others. Depends on what I am doing. If I’m busy it helps. Today I was up at 5:30, it’s too hard.

thislittlebird · 13/06/2026 10:18

@birdsintrees yeah it’s hard that early, my kid has been up in the night having a party in her room a number of times over the past week and I’ve ended up eating at 3 or 4am a few times over that time. I did add that food to my totals for the day though!

Fibrous · 13/06/2026 11:35

I’m currently on holiday in France eating all the food. Definitely going to get back on it on my return, my chins are multiplying.
