Petite support thread... continued

All petites are welcome on this thread, but it seemed like it would be particularly helpful to have a corner of Mumsnet for those of us who are petite/small framed and officially a 'healthy weight' but know we feel/look better a few pounds lighter (which would still be within a healthy weight/not underweight).

Maybe we can share goals, progress, struggles, things that are working, etc.? It would also be lovely to hear from any petites who are at a 'happy weight' and what you are doing to be successful.

Feel free to share as much or little as you like. Height, current weight, goal weight or other body measurements, nutrition, calories, exercise, NSV, etc.

Hi @thislittlebird sounds like excellent progress. Can i ask what workouts you are doing. I need to add some strength to my running routine.

Babies are amazing. But they really do screw up your routine making exercise and healthy diet options difficult!

Mine are in secondary now and I am still trying to undo the damage i did to myself when they were young and all consuming!

thislittlebird · 23/04/2026 13:15

Hi @Hoolahoophop yeah no problem, it's this channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/JuiceToya - I've been doing their workouts for years (since covid, I think) and find the wide range of videos they have really helpful. This morning I did 20 mins of dumbbell hiit, it's easier to fit these in for me than runs or gym trips etc. They're doing a summer ready challenge, I'm debating trying to join in with it! I'm very pleased my cellulite has sodded off again, I'll thank all the squats I've been doing!

Yeah I definitely struggled to find time last summer with 1 year old plus return to work, I'm forcing myself to be a bit more dedicated this year because I do not want to get to summer and hate photos of myself once again! My daughter now wants to climb all over me when I workout at home so I have to do it before she sees me and gets excited about "mummy exercises" 😅

Results kicking in now Grin
There was a satisfying post-bloat jump downwards, but the scales have also crept down subtly through the week since the hormone shift. 1kg lighter in a week and it feels so much better for it!

Hopefully by the next hormonal bloat upwards, I should be a little lighter to begin with. Half a kg will make a difference.

@BogRollBOGOF I hate the pre period gain! I’m in that zone right now and refusing to weigh in until it’s done and dusted

Iloveleaveinconditioner · 09/05/2026 20:50

Checking in for the first time in a while on here.

August last year I was at my heaviest at 60kg and 5’3. The heaviest I’ve been in my adult life (aside from pregnancy) I’d put on a stone from god knows where!

Anyway, weighed in this morning and I was 52.7kgs 🥳 which I’m SO pleased with.

My god, it’s only taken me 9 months but I’m so bloody relieved to have my body back! I feel (and look) so much lighter and healthier.

I’m going to try and lose a little more over the next 6 weeks OR maintain, but I go on holiday next week so am not fancying my chances 🙈 I know I’ll do a bit of damage there but when I get back I’m going to hop straight back on to the healthy eating again.

From July onwards I would just like to maintain so we’ll see how that goes!

Hope everyone is getting on well!

That's really impressive @Iloveleaveinconditioner , well done! Do you mind me asking how you managed it? I'm the same height and my weight has been creeping up and up each year, and I've found trying to 'eat less move more' leads me to lose and gain the same 2kg over and over. I'm a little in denial about how low my calorie intake would need to be I think!

Thanks! Sure, I started off just intermittent fasting and quickly worked up to 20 hour fasts (I’d stop eating at 18.30 and wouldn’t eat again until 14.30 the next day, just a small amount of skimmed milk in my morning tea)

That worked quite well for a while and I lost a bit but then plateaued and found I did then have to start calorie counting 😢

I break my fast each day with 100-140grams of Fage yogurt (either 0% or 5% if 0 isn’t available) and chopped fruit.

I then just have my dinner in the evening and whilst I try most of the time to ensure it was healthy(ish) sometimes it is just pizza and chips! I’d say the last month or 2 ive been better though and have been eating a lot of salmon, veg, sweet potato etc for dinner.

I’d say for the last 4 months I’ve been sticking around 1200 cals most days Mon-Friday with a break on the weekends. And yeh, here we are!

I also try and ensure I do at least 8000 steps a day!

TBH, I’m kinda used to the ‘diet’ now so I don’t really find it hard, I think allowing myself Saturday (and sometimes Sunday) to eat what I want and enjoy a few glasses (or bottle 😬) of wine has helped as I feel fine doing that knowing I’ve been good all week.

Hope that helps!

eurotravel · 10/05/2026 08:32

I’ve not been on for a while but after a few months semi regular gym, eating very little during the day and less wine, I’m feeling more toned and slimmer. Not sure I’m actually much lighter but I feel miles better!

Hoolahoophop · 11/05/2026 10:00

Morning all,

I have added a 15 minute Joe Wicks strength workout to my regime (well I've done it twice!) Hoping for 3 5k runs and 3 strength work outs a week, as will as my 10 minute Pilates core exercises will make a difference. I've been tired, so eating too much, but training to aim for 1400 calories max during the week and 1800 at the weekend. To make a real difference I need to lower that, but at the moment I cant face it so am focusing on the exercise and will move on to diet after. I am eating more healthily, just too much of it.

BogRollBOGOF · 12/05/2026 20:20

Bloat season again... and it's lighter with apparently less body fat than last month's... I'll take that as progress.

I'm seriously thinking of going to the Drs about hormones in the summer holidays when I have time to play with. I'm that age now and everything is so sluggish. I'm also finding it hard on muscle recovery and spend about 10 days out of every 25-27 in a mental/ physical slump to battle through. I'm sick of lead legs, and it feels like the choice is work through it, stay fit and have lead legs or back off, gain weight and have lead legs.

I don't want to cut too much by doing something like 5:2 because lunch is 1:30 by the time I eat which is a long time after my 7:15 breakfast and I'm using a lot of mental energy and on my feet most of the day so can't risk energy crashes.

Sorry your feeling rubbish @BogRollBOGOF can you remind me how much you were trying to loose?

I really relate to you post, exhausted, tough muscle recovery, really suffer from lead legs and the mental/physical slump. I have been assuming its due to my iron levels. My ferritin is low (ranges between 11-17) but my dr doesn't think I need to do anything. I took ferrous sulphate for a while but that gave me horrendous cramps so I gave it up. I know I need to go back for more tests/ask for help but the thought of that is exhausting, I just don't have the energy to battle the drs.

A colleague is doing fasting at the moment - nothing until 1.30 but is struggling with it (and so are we as they are hangry all the time).

Getting down to 1400 calories a day averaged across the week would I think lead to a slow loss. But its just so depressing and so hard when you are lacking energy anyway.

(I'm just under 4ft11 and currently weighing 58.3kg. I'd like to be 48kg in an ideal world but would settle for 50kg to put me in the middle of the healthy range but while 10kg may not sound like that much to some, loosing 17% of my bodyweight is not an easy task.) It's rubbish being small, a woman, and reaching an age where everything seems to slow down.
