Petite support thread... continued

BogRollBOGOF · 20/10/2025 21:07

All petites are welcome on this thread, but it seemed like it would be particularly helpful to have a corner of Mumsnet for those of us who are petite/small framed and officially a 'healthy weight' but know we feel/look better a few pounds lighter (which would still be within a healthy weight/not underweight).

Maybe we can share goals, progress, struggles, things that are working, etc.? It would also be lovely to hear from any petites who are at a 'happy weight' and what you are doing to be successful.

Feel free to share as much or little as you like. Height, current weight, goal weight or other body measurements, nutrition, calories, exercise, NSV, etc.

Hi @thislittlebird sounds like excellent progress. Can i ask what workouts you are doing. I need to add some strength to my running routine.

Babies are amazing. But they really do screw up your routine making exercise and healthy diet options difficult!

Mine are in secondary now and I am still trying to undo the damage i did to myself when they were young and all consuming!

thislittlebird · 23/04/2026 13:15

Hi @Hoolahoophop yeah no problem, it's this channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/JuiceToya - I've been doing their workouts for years (since covid, I think) and find the wide range of videos they have really helpful. This morning I did 20 mins of dumbbell hiit, it's easier to fit these in for me than runs or gym trips etc. They're doing a summer ready challenge, I'm debating trying to join in with it! I'm very pleased my cellulite has sodded off again, I'll thank all the squats I've been doing!

Yeah I definitely struggled to find time last summer with 1 year old plus return to work, I'm forcing myself to be a bit more dedicated this year because I do not want to get to summer and hate photos of myself once again! My daughter now wants to climb all over me when I workout at home so I have to do it before she sees me and gets excited about "mummy exercises" 😅

BogRollBOGOF · 25/04/2026 11:45

Results kicking in now Grin
There was a satisfying post-bloat jump downwards, but the scales have also crept down subtly through the week since the hormone shift. 1kg lighter in a week and it feels so much better for it!

Hopefully by the next hormonal bloat upwards, I should be a little lighter to begin with. Half a kg will make a difference.

@BogRollBOGOF I hate the pre period gain! I’m in that zone right now and refusing to weigh in until it’s done and dusted

Iloveleaveinconditioner · 09/05/2026 20:50

Checking in for the first time in a while on here.

August last year I was at my heaviest at 60kg and 5’3. The heaviest I’ve been in my adult life (aside from pregnancy) I’d put on a stone from god knows where!

Anyway, weighed in this morning and I was 52.7kgs 🥳 which I’m SO pleased with.

My god, it’s only taken me 9 months but I’m so bloody relieved to have my body back! I feel (and look) so much lighter and healthier.

I’m going to try and lose a little more over the next 6 weeks OR maintain, but I go on holiday next week so am not fancying my chances 🙈 I know I’ll do a bit of damage there but when I get back I’m going to hop straight back on to the healthy eating again.

From July onwards I would just like to maintain so we’ll see how that goes!

Hope everyone is getting on well!

Proteinpudding · 09/05/2026 21:09

That's really impressive @Iloveleaveinconditioner , well done! Do you mind me asking how you managed it? I'm the same height and my weight has been creeping up and up each year, and I've found trying to 'eat less move more' leads me to lose and gain the same 2kg over and over. I'm a little in denial about how low my calorie intake would need to be I think!

Thanks! Sure, I started off just intermittent fasting and quickly worked up to 20 hour fasts (I’d stop eating at 18.30 and wouldn’t eat again until 14.30 the next day, just a small amount of skimmed milk in my morning tea)

That worked quite well for a while and I lost a bit but then plateaued and found I did then have to start calorie counting 😢

I break my fast each day with 100-140grams of Fage yogurt (either 0% or 5% if 0 isn’t available) and chopped fruit.

I then just have my dinner in the evening and whilst I try most of the time to ensure it was healthy(ish) sometimes it is just pizza and chips! I’d say the last month or 2 ive been better though and have been eating a lot of salmon, veg, sweet potato etc for dinner.

I’d say for the last 4 months I’ve been sticking around 1200 cals most days Mon-Friday with a break on the weekends. And yeh, here we are!

I also try and ensure I do at least 8000 steps a day!

TBH, I’m kinda used to the ‘diet’ now so I don’t really find it hard, I think allowing myself Saturday (and sometimes Sunday) to eat what I want and enjoy a few glasses (or bottle 😬) of wine has helped as I feel fine doing that knowing I’ve been good all week.

Hope that helps!

eurotravel · 10/05/2026 08:32

I’ve not been on for a while but after a few months semi regular gym, eating very little during the day and less wine, I’m feeling more toned and slimmer. Not sure I’m actually much lighter but I feel miles better!

Hoolahoophop · 11/05/2026 10:00

Morning all,

I have added a 15 minute Joe Wicks strength workout to my regime (well I've done it twice!) Hoping for 3 5k runs and 3 strength work outs a week, as will as my 10 minute Pilates core exercises will make a difference. I've been tired, so eating too much, but training to aim for 1400 calories max during the week and 1800 at the weekend. To make a real difference I need to lower that, but at the moment I cant face it so am focusing on the exercise and will move on to diet after. I am eating more healthily, just too much of it.

BogRollBOGOF · 12/05/2026 20:20

Bloat season again... and it's lighter with apparently less body fat than last month's... I'll take that as progress.

I'm seriously thinking of going to the Drs about hormones in the summer holidays when I have time to play with. I'm that age now and everything is so sluggish. I'm also finding it hard on muscle recovery and spend about 10 days out of every 25-27 in a mental/ physical slump to battle through. I'm sick of lead legs, and it feels like the choice is work through it, stay fit and have lead legs or back off, gain weight and have lead legs.

I don't want to cut too much by doing something like 5:2 because lunch is 1:30 by the time I eat which is a long time after my 7:15 breakfast and I'm using a lot of mental energy and on my feet most of the day so can't risk energy crashes.

OP posts:
Hoolahoophop · 13/05/2026 10:20

Sorry your feeling rubbish @BogRollBOGOF can you remind me how much you were trying to loose?

I really relate to you post, exhausted, tough muscle recovery, really suffer from lead legs and the mental/physical slump. I have been assuming its due to my iron levels. My ferritin is low (ranges between 11-17) but my dr doesn't think I need to do anything. I took ferrous sulphate for a while but that gave me horrendous cramps so I gave it up. I know I need to go back for more tests/ask for help but the thought of that is exhausting, I just don't have the energy to battle the drs.

A colleague is doing fasting at the moment - nothing until 1.30 but is struggling with it (and so are we as they are hangry all the time).

Getting down to 1400 calories a day averaged across the week would I think lead to a slow loss. But its just so depressing and so hard when you are lacking energy anyway.

(I'm just under 4ft11 and currently weighing 58.3kg. I'd like to be 48kg in an ideal world but would settle for 50kg to put me in the middle of the healthy range but while 10kg may not sound like that much to some, loosing 17% of my bodyweight is not an easy task.) It's rubbish being small, a woman, and reaching an age where everything seems to slow down.

BogRollBOGOF · 15/05/2026 16:18

I seem to have got stuck at 66kg now (5'2") following a holiday 3 months ago. My weight went up and I haven't managed to get it down since. Any slight hiccup and it goes up and I can't seem to get it down.

I'm quite limb-heavy with muscles so I don't think I look around a BMI of 27, but I'm softer in the middle than I'd like and increasingly get chaffing at the tops of my legs, bra straps and arm pits as my skin's become softer in recent years. I've also reached the point of a lot of older clothes getting too snug.

Just catching up on the thread

@Iloveleaveinconditioner Wow - well done! Thanks also for sharing what you’ve done to achieve such brilliant weight loss. I have a follow-up question to your post… you say you eat 1200 calories Mon-Fri and more at weekends. Do you have a rough idea how many calories you think you eat on a Sat and Sun?

Well done to those who are seeing progress and sorry to hear some are struggling. I’m pleased we have this thread to share our successes and challenges.

I’m now heavier than when I last posted! I’m around 8st11 now. However, I started taking creatine just over a month ago and apparently it can cause some weight (water) gain. I’m really hoping that’s the reason! Can anyone confirm that?

I’m getting increasingly frustrated with my tummy fat. At 5ft2 and 8st11, I’m not over weight but I am
a really typical apple shape and it seems like over the last couple of years (since I turned 40), the tummy fat is getting worse.

WorriedAnxiousAndStressed · 16/05/2026 17:32

Hello!

I was on the last thread (with a different username - I can’t remember which one 😂)

I was doing quite well for a while, and then as usual, got a bit lazy, let the cravings take charge and I was back up to 9 stone 9ish. I’m 5’ 3” (and a bit ) but also Asian so according to bmi calculator highest end of weight to remain in healthy region should be 9stone 3.

i convinced dh we needed a walking pad (have a stationary exercise bike but am so bored of using that). I’ve been trying my best to get at least 10k steps a day. I don’t want to start with intense workouts as I’ll lose traction very quickly.
the walking pad is also helping with the ‘quick’ walk after meals (at least dinner).

I have issues trying to reduce stomach size, but after lots of reading around I think it is definitely a cortisol belly.

currently weigh 9 stone 2 (and it’s taken the longest time to get down).

hoping to get to 8 stone 7 eventually…but half term is creeping up and I tend to visit family which usually starts the downward spiral when it comes to food.

HolidayBrochure · 18/05/2026 16:41

Hey everyone, it's good to see a bit of life on the thread! I've been lamely plodding along. I had a week away which ruined everything and my motivation hasn't been amazing.

I'm 5'0 and currently 9 stone/57kg which is pretty much where I started, ugh. I was great for a while with my walking but then work got too busy and I let that slip. Now things are a little better and I'm managing 4km-5km most days and I'm really doing my best not to overeat.

Today I've eaten eff-all - a grated carrot with some salad dressing, half a protein shake and two coffees, dinner will be calorific however - sausage pasta that has cream and lots of cheese in it. I actually can't wait, there's no sauce like a good apetite!

HitchhikersGuide · 19/05/2026 14:29

I lost my mojo a while back and haven't quite regained it. The one plus is that I'm drinking a lot less than I used to, and am feeling better for it. Also the less wine I drink, the less chocolate I eat!

ObelixtheGaul · 19/05/2026 16:28

I've made it back into the 8s! Ok, only just, 8 stone 13 lbs 9oz, but it's a while since 8 has been the first number on the scales.

Owlmoonstar · 19/05/2026 19:42

Im 5ft3 and 65 kg. Or approx 10 stone 3.5lbs

I want to be 9 stone. That's the final goal.

My next goal is to get to 10 stone.

I do have a decent amount of muscle mass, and I don't look overweight at all to other people. But I carry the weight on my thighs. And that stubborn lower belly fat.

Hoping if I get down to 9 stone I'll be happy.

Aiming for a 400-500 deficit tuesday-friday. And maintenance Saturday-Monday.

Thankyou! I don't care if it takes me a year. Id prefer to do it in a slow and sustainable way in order for it to stay off for good.

VividDeer · 19/05/2026 20:32

I've changed names aswell. I'm 1stone 3lbs down since 1st January. Still overweight, but a noticeable improvement.
5'1" and 9.12 currently. Need another stone off really.
Am now assisted by a small dose of wegovy. Just had no faith in could do it otherwise as about to have chemical menopause!

MylipstickiscalledHugMe · 20/05/2026 10:09

Brilliant work @VividDeer that's incredible!

Are you able to take HRT after your chemical menopause? I really think that for me, being on HRT the last 10 years (I went into peri quite young, at 40) has helped my metabolism not reduce.

I'm still hovering around 8st 10-12. I've got a spa day in eight weeks and am not feeling presentable, very wobbly indeed around thighs and bum (bit of a tummy but I don't mind that, and the rest of me is fine). More important than weight for me, is hip size, and I want to lose 1.5" by then. I have an exercise routine and equipment at home, just want to find the motivation to do it every day. Also aiming for max 1,500 cals, lowish carb.

Really glad this thread is still going. Good luck everyone.

VividDeer · 20/05/2026 10:30

@MylipstickiscalledHugMe no I can't have HRT at all. Diagnosed with breast cancer last year aged 47. It sounds vain, but without getting my weight under control, I was unwilling to gain more via the hormone treatment. That's why I did the injections

I went into peri at 40, too. Didn't do HRT myself, but oddly, the metabolism change didn't really kick in until three years ago. I got hairier before I got fatter.
