I am 45 and 5ft 2". I have been a size 6/8 for most of my adult life. I put on about a stone in lockdown. Managed to lose it (largely through stress) for my wedding a couple of years ago, and have since piled it back on, mainly through too much cheese and wine and a love of cooking/feeding other people. I eat mostly low carb and Mediterranean style but have become a bit more lax, I don't really snack and do a fair amount of exercise (including strength training) I'm now more a size 10 with a small spare tyre and a large chest. I detest my body like this. On a short, small frame, 1 stone is a lot and really shows. Yesterday I didn't even want to leave the house with my husband to go for a drink in the sun as I thought I looked hideous. Today it all changes. I have started working with an online wellness/fitness coach recently and she said something this morning that made me stop and think - how sad it is that people literally don't want to be in photo's with their families because of their weight. This is me. I hate that I am so hard on myself because of my size and speak to myself in a way I'd never speak to anyone else. I hate that for the last few years every nice thing we've done, has always had the niggling thought that I'd enjoy it more if I were a stone lighter. I know I have lots of 'mind work' to do aorund my relationship with my weight (hence the coach) but on the physical front today is re-set. Binning the alcohol, more strict with the carbs and cheese. I aim to lose 7lbs in the next 4/5 weeks. Posting here for accountability really. Anyone else having a 're-set' today? Good luck!

3 days in for me and I'm doing well. 2 meals a day with no/minimal snacking. I don't feel hungry between meals at all but had a small biscuit before pilates tonight as I felt a little light-headed just before the end of my class on Tuesday.

I'm "up north" so it's dinner and tea here, and I've been basing them around green veg or salads. Yesterday's salad had smoked trout and avocado. I was in the office today so made do with full-fat cottage cheese instead of the fish!

I was another pound lighter on the scales this morning, so that's just over 4 in total. I do typically have a good loss in week 1, often week 2 and then plateau week 3, so I'll be expecting that.

MarmiteWine · 08/05/2025 21:04

4 days in, not 3!

tooearlyortoolate · 09/05/2025 07:39

Hi, all. It’s been a busy week so I’m a little behind on the chat, sounds like everyone is doing quite well! I’m down 1.5lb which I really didn’t expect so I’m quite pleased.

I hope everyone has a good weekend! Happy Friday!

tigerbear · 09/05/2025 10:10

@tooearlyortoolate well done on your loss! 👍

I’m finding it really hard to get motivated today - still in bed, scrolling on MN, Facebook, and IG, plus work emails, when I really need to get up, walk the dog, and do some weights!

tigerbear · 09/05/2025 11:35

30 min of weights done, but was a real struggle!

Happy Friday everyone!

DrEllie · 09/05/2025 13:05

Hello everyone and well done so far! Went to a class at gym yesterday and as a result I can't move properly today 🤣 the weekend is going to be trying diet wise, hard to keep on the straight and narrow with kids and husband scarfing junk food

Chubbybetty · 09/05/2025 14:39

Hi all. Does anyone else struggle with resisting temptation more at the weekend? My willpower is iron during the week, but Friday hits and I falter. Stayed on plan so far today, and another variation on salad planned for dinner, but am daydreaming about bloody pizza and husband has restocked the wine rack! 😕

@Chubbybetty and @DrEllie absolutely, the weekends are the hardest, aren't they? DD has friends over this evening, and they're ordering a takeaway - DH and I had already agreed to have something else more healthy, but I'm not sure what yet.
Also craving wine or a G&T!

coxesorangepippin · 09/05/2025 17:26

I am on board with losing some weight, preferably about a stone.

Im 5'5 and around 10.5 stone I think, around a size 10 clothing.

Trying to eat healthily, which means big omelettes and salads for lunches, and trying desperately hard not to snack. Not drinking alcohol isn't that big of a deal for me, my problem is portion size.

Had a couple of treats this week ( club sandwich and chips, apple crumble) but in my defense DD ate half the club sandwich and the crumble portion wasn't too large.

Keep on everyone 💪

Hi everyone, can I please join you? I was doing really well and had managed to get under 10 stone at last, but it all went to pot over Easter and I’m struggling to get my mojo back.

I'm 40, 5’2”, and prefer to weigh myself in kg because it doesn’t have an emotional attachment for me in the same way that stones do. I was down to about 62.5kg but now back up to 63.9, which puts me back over the 10 stone barrier.

I know exactly what the problem is - I’ve been snacking more, drinking more alcohol, and exercising less. I need to get back to better eating habits and do more running and yoga. My yoga teacher has been away a lot recently and I keep saying I’ll do YouTube yoga instead, but I rarely do and when I do manage it, it’s not nearly as tough. I usually run 3-4 times a week, but with increased office days and summer sports for the kids taking up more time, I haven’t been managing that either.

I feel tired and achey and desperate to feel as strong and fit as I did a couple of months ago.

Very similar stats to me!
also need to do some exercise desperately…

Yes my god my phone is such a blocker to getting anything else done, exercise included…

jumpintheline · 09/05/2025 20:01

food wise not too bad today, broke my fast at around midday with a bit of toddlers pasta lunch then half a bagel with humous. This evening we’re doing a Buddha bowl with chickpeas lots of veggies and salmon. The main downfall is a couple of glasses of white wine and a few lentil crisps. Going to aim for a short run this weekend - will be the first in a long time…

Swearwolf · 09/05/2025 20:33

I definitely struggle more at the weekend, especially when it’s sunny! Perfect weather for sitting out with a gin. I haven’t done too badly this week, still not perfect but have managed to curb the snacking a little bit.

MarmiteWine · 09/05/2025 22:14

Things didn't go quite to plan this evening.

I'd decided to go to the gym after work. Work is 45 minutes from home, then gym is another 15 minutes after that. About 3 minutes before reaching the gym my phone ran out of charge. I need the phone to get in and out of the gym so tried to charge it in the car but it was barely charging.

The gym is on a retail park so I went to 2 shops in search of a battery operated powerbank. No luck. After another 5 minutes in the car, now up to a paltry 8%, I gave up and came home. And I've just eaten about half a bag of delicious Belazu Rosemary Snack Mix, which definitely wasn't planned into today's food ☹

Tomorrow is another day!

rereturner · 09/05/2025 23:05

I’ve managed to maintain sub 9st for a week now and was 8st 12lb today. Next goal is single figures lb so 8st 9. I’m trying to take it slow and steady but hopefully will achieve this by June. Eating is going okish but wine drinking definitely needs reining in.

starting weight 9st 1.5lb
current 8st 12lb
goal 8st

wondering if my goal is achievable any more at my age but I’ll have a bash. Was 7.5 all through my twenties so surely I can do this.

rereturner · 09/05/2025 23:13

Re the chat about soup: I read about a study once that showed soup keeps you feeling full a lot longer than other foods. The study had one group eat soup and the other group eat the same veggies/protein but as solid food with a glass of water on the side (so the same ingredients but one soup and one not soup). The soup group stayed feeling fuller for longer and consumed less daily calories overall because of this.

chainsinnalice · 10/05/2025 06:53

Morning all's, that's interesting about the soup @rereturner. I didn't have one in the end, we ended up with salad and heck sausages and then Carte dor. I also had a Malibu and lemonade... oops

Today we have friends over, which will be lovely but there will be a lot of eating and drinking. I'm planning on doing a large salad buffet and also a big jug of flavoured filtered water (like lemon and lime). I have nice glasses and fancy straws. It's the little things, right!?? Haha Grin

Weight wise I'm just hovering around the 9'5-9'6 mark so no loss for me this week. I'm tracking food though and eating around 1600 a day. Clearly not low enough so will have to do a drastic cut next week. That's where soup is handle, a lot of volume for not many calories. Will have to make up some sugarfree jelly and popcorn too.

Have a great day today all x

GrazeConcern · 10/05/2025 07:07

Hi everyone, yesterday wasn’t ideal for me, but I did also make some ‘harm limiting’ choices! I had the most stressful day at work combined house selling drama. I don’t think yesterday would have been a deficit day, but I’m fairly sure it wasn’t bad enough to exceed a maintainance calorie day if you see what I mean.

I’m losing track on everyone’s progress, but @Chubbybetty I think 3lb in ?2 weeks is really good progress in your 40’s combined with feeling your stomach is flatter too.

Hope you have a great time with friends @chainsinnalice sounds like you have some good ideas there to add in healthier options. And yes I think I will make another batch of soup for this week coming as it really helped me keep on track this week.

@MarmiteWine nevermind - Friday often has its own unique energy that makes me very prone to falling off the wagon 😂 the key is I find not allowing it to be a weekend off the wagon! Easier said than done!

Well done @rereturner sounds like you’re doing really well at the moment.

i am on cycle day 15 so will imminently retain so much water I’ll look like a water ballon and feel like I have flu for a few days. It’s so hard to keep going during pmt, but what I’ve found before is if I can keep on track, once all the water goes I have actually lost fat underneath it all.

Chubbybetty · 10/05/2025 09:43

Morning all. How is everyone getting on? Bad day for me yesterday, hit the 'sod it' button - husband suggested buy one get one free cocktails at our local (didn't take much persuading!), then wine, then slice of pizza. Daren't face the scale this morning. Back to it today!

OP posts:
Swearwolf · 10/05/2025 13:36

@Chubbybettyeveryone gets to hit the fuck it button once in a while! Weigh yourself in a couple of days.

I’m doing alright today, had a salad for lunch (it had halloumi, so not super salad, but I am feeling good about it nevertheless.

I haven’t weighed myself for a few days, but my period started yesterday and I think my hormonal bloat will just bum me out and throw me off track. DH weighed himself this morning and he’s gained a whole stone since the last time he weighed, so he’s determined to reel it back in - this is good news for me as it means he’s less likely to crack out some snacks or to open a bottle of wine.

Chubbybetty · 10/05/2025 14:12

@Swearwolf the salad sounds tasty, I love halloumi. Good news that you will be making a team effort with your husband. Mine was told this week by his GP that he needs to lose weight but I don't see much action on his part yet - he had bacon and cheese sandwiches for his lunch (I was envious, looked very good!).

tigerbear · 10/05/2025 15:16

@Chubbybetty bad day yesterday for me too - I caved and ordered takeaway when my DD and her friends ordered- McDonalds, FFS! I don't even like McDonalds very much. Then went out, had a G&T and a Coke, then some bread and cheese. Oh, and then an Aperol when I got home.
Walk in the park today, which ended with a visit to the cafe, and a spinach and feta pastry.

Back home now, and DD and her friends are getting another takeaway (it's her birthday weekend, so it's a treat, I honestly don't feed my DD takeaway for every meal! :-) ) - and DH and I have also ordered - chicken tenders, which are 'only' 420 cals.

FFS, what is wrong with me!!!! Zero will power on weekends!!
I'm taking DD out for a birthday lunch in central London tomorrow aswell, pre theatre, so more temptation.
Arghhhh!! Will definitely need to do a workout this eve and tomorrow.

Swearwolf · 10/05/2025 16:02

@tigerbear it’s extra difficult on a birthday weekend though, if everyone else is celebrating!

MarmiteWine · 10/05/2025 19:52

Thank you @GrazeConcern 😊 I praised myself on not eating the whole bag and tracked them on Nutracheck. Even with them I came in at 1676 calories for the day, so not too terrible in the scheme of things. And a tiny bit off on the scales again today brings me to 4½lb so far.

I did my regular Pilates class this morning, followed by 3½ minutes on the cross-trainer. This might not sound a lot, but I hate the cross-trainer! Other cardio is perfectly fine but the cross-trainer is my nemesis and I actively avoid it. I made the mistake of telling my Pilates instructor this and she "encouraged" me last week to give it a go with her showing me correct technique. I managed 3 minutes last week (with a 30-second breather after the first minute 🙈) so today was an improvement!

I had an avocado for my pre-Pilates breakfast, then lunch when I got home was a sausage "hash" with courgette, leek, red pepper and spinach, topped with a poached egg and a squirt of sriracha mayo.

Tea will be a smoked mackerel "pate" with little gem lettuce.

tigerbear · 10/05/2025 20:32

@Swearwolf it really is hard whenever there's any kind of celebration or entertaining!

@MarmiteWine crosstrainer is the worst isn't it! I'm v impressed by your 4.5lb loss! How long did it take to lose?
Your sausage hash sounds amazing!!

I redeemed myself slightly from the takeaway earlier, by doing a weights session just now - leg day, inc lunges, one of my least favourite exercises, as my balance is rubbish.

Have also managed to stay off alcohol today, so that's quite good going for a Saturday!
