If you could just spare a few minutes I would be so grateful. I've forgotten what it's like to be slim and how much/little I ate. Can some of you possibly list how much you eat and drink in a typical day PLEASE? I need to get to grips with eating and am always hungry so wondering what a slim person eats in a typical day.

Also when you eat out does your stomach expand a dress size, what do you eat so it doesn't!

I am in the process of losing weight - 23lbs down and about 6 or so to go. I eat
bowl of bran flakes with raisins and skimmed milk
rice cakes, marmite and very low fat cream cheese plus apple and orange and maybe diet yogurt
dinner is normally pasta with tomatoey sauce, curry, veggie sausages and lots of veg and jacket spud etc.....

and I really try not to eat in between times except maybe some more fruit when DSs have their tea

dull I know but it seems to work for me!

lowcalCOD · 14/01/2005 14:19

im I htink 9 4 is thin

morningpaper · 14/01/2005 14:24

Wild: slim but haggard: lol! I've noticed that my overweight friends look 10 years younger than they actually are...

roller: if you are gaining a dress size when you've had a big meal, then you are probably thin enough! I once went out with some friends and we were complaining about this and two of our friends (who were both around 20 stone) said "We have no fucking idea what you are talking about" - which put it in perspective.

FineFigureFio · 14/01/2005 14:27

my god issymum, you are THIN

Snugs · 14/01/2005 15:05

I'm a skinny. 5' 4", 7st 4lbs. Would love to put on some weight. My maximum weight has been 9st, when pregnant. With both boys, I dropped to 8st as soon as they were born and dropped the rest as soon as I stopped breastfeeding.

Breakfast - 2 weetabix with full fat milk.
Mid morning - cheese sandwich
Lunch - Tuna sandwich, or mackeral on toast, or beans on toast - you get the drift.
Mid afternoon - few biscuits or snack bar or crisps
After school run - sandwiches and fruit with the boys
Dinner - Full cooked meal (traditional english meals, plus plenty of curries and pastas thrown in for variety).
Usually have a chinese take-away at least once a week.

Drink loads of water during the day but a fair amount of coffee as well. Do have a nasty coke habit (not the snorting kind). Alcohol - only occasionally, but tends to be vodka when I do.

Love sweets, but not overly keen on chocolate (shock horror, throw me of MN ).

Hate exercise, but do walk briskly for 15 mins, 3 times a day (School run)

At the slightest sign of ill-health or worry my weight drops below 7st and it will take ages to creep back up again. Only 7st 4lbs now because of Christmas.

Issymum and Tinker, as a lardy heifer I am perfectly prepared to be corrected by thin people like you! (I know Tinker's pregnant atm but I think she's thin otherwise) - hey, wtf would I know?!

flashingnose · 14/01/2005 15:26

I'm not as slim as I used to be but would probably still be described as slimm-ish. I don't always remember to eat and I can't eat a lot in one sitting. I cannot have things like crisps, chocolate and yummy biscuits in the house because I'll eat them all, so I don't (kids are horrified).

crunchie · 14/01/2005 15:41

www and tinker although you condradicted each other, I think that tinker is right, thin people DON'T think about food. They don't watch what they eat, it is much more subconcious. They still 'feel full' from the day before. Also everyone talks about HOW much they eat, but portion sizes are never mentioned. TBH I think thin people tend to eat less, full stop. They may eat the same food as fatter people but they simply don't eat 3 doughnuts at one sitting, just one. They may eat crisps, but a 'normal' size bag, not a family sized bag. When eating a meal of veggie lasagne and chips, the portion is smaller.

There has been loads of stuff in the press about why french women are slimmer, and yet they have 3 course meals. It is just their portions are much much smaller than ours.

Americans are fatter as their portions are much bigger. Think about it when you go to an American restaurant the plates of food are HUGE, but we clean our plates (or us fatter ones do), then have pudding 'because it is a treat' even though we are not still hungry. If you eat out in france the size of the portions are tiny in comparison, so 3 courses fill you up, but don't stretch the tummy.

Is anything I am saying making sense??

spacedonkey · 14/01/2005 15:43

Surely it would be more pertinent to examine the eating habits of someone who is thin now but didn't used to be, rather than someone who has always been thin?

franch · 14/01/2005 15:52

SD's right - there can be a huge genetic factor

weightwatchingwaterwitch · 14/01/2005 17:57

Crunchie, you're completely making sense, the 'French Women Don't Get Fat' book and the 'Fat Land, why Americans are fatter than ever before' (read the first, started the second) both seem to say the same thing - portion control.

Potty1 · 14/01/2005 18:02

I'm 5ft 6 and weigh 10st 2 today - which is fine, I think. I was 9 st 5 the day I found out that I was pg with ds1 (17 years ago), I don't think I'll ever be that again

I don't usually weigh myself (did it especially for you) and I think thats a good thing, I mean not getting hung up on what you weigh, just going with how you feel and whether your clothes fit. I don't particularly think about what I'm eating more about how much. Also metabolism definitely plays a part, I do quite a bit of exercise (join us on the runner's thread)........and try hard to keep my blood sugar level otherwise I'm very grumpy and have a tendancy to faint .

Today I've had
Two cups of tea (milk, one sugar)
A banana, two slices of fruit bread
A coffee
Half a tin of soup, a wholemeal roll and a satsuma
Another coffee
Frittata and roasted veggies (this is just cooking at the mo)
I'll probably have a couple of glasses of wine later as its Friday. Oh and I've had three Roses.

I should drink more (water I mean) but I always forget.

Blossomhill · 14/01/2005 18:11

Hi roller
I am currently 10st 1lb and 5"9'

I have been on the coddy diet as I want to go back down to a size 10 as not happy being a 12. I have lost about 4 lb this week by not drinking alcohol, not eating any snacks such as chocolate, crisps, biscuits etc and have swapped those snacks for fruit or ryvita.

Today I have eaten
1 slice of toast (trying to have porridge if I have time)
tuna salad, with a small bit of crusty bread
banana
1 low cal choc bar (they are new out and under 100 cals so thought I'd give it a go)
Later on will have a stir fry with some prawn toast and spring rolls
HTH

ragtaggle · 14/01/2005 18:13

Wild, I think you are right about thin people looking older. And, as you get older,it's a choice between your arse or your face. Look at Madonna and Nigella. Madonna chose her arse and looks gaunt and haggard, Nigella chose her face and looks youthful and beautiful. (I still wish I was a stone lighter. I'm quite a way off being thin enough to look haggard)

Blossomhill · 14/01/2005 18:15

The gym instructor was really laughing at me as I said I want to lose my arse but keep my c cups Impossible apparently. Once one goes so does the other!

I remember reading an articela bout why fat pope,ll are fat
apparently it becasue they oten underestimate the calorific value of food and arent really food wise

also they have FAST metabolism not slow, they have to really to process allt he food theu take in

it allmakes sense really.

the same article also said never believe a diet thta can promise you a loss fo more than 2 lbs a week or that will target specific areas.

the other myth is that eating late at night is bad - apprently its all to do with energy expended BEFORE the consumptionnot after

GreatBigFatHeiferEnid · 14/01/2005 18:20

blossom, how can you not be a size 10? I was a size 10 when I was 10 stone (I am 5 8).

lowcalCOD · 14/01/2005 18:21

Blossomhill · 14/01/2005 18:22

GreatBigFatHeiferEnid · 14/01/2005 18:22

I am lucky as I carry extra weight quite evenly and am quite well proportioned (ie lardy everywhere )

GreatBigFatHeiferEnid · 14/01/2005 18:23
