If you could just spare a few minutes I would be so grateful. I've forgotten what it's like to be slim and how much/little I ate. Can some of you possibly list how much you eat and drink in a typical day PLEASE? I need to get to grips with eating and am always hungry so wondering what a slim person eats in a typical day.

Also when you eat out does your stomach expand a dress size, what do you eat so it doesn't!

I live off diet pepsi

Fills you up, then have a meal at night (anything from healthy Gillian McKeith hippy food to fullfat burritos to fried food to salad... just whatever dinner me and dp fancy.

But I tend to have loads of diet drinks (mostly pepsi and cordial) and then fruit as snacks if I really need during the day.

I'm not skinny though, I'm 9st 5 but just lost over a stone in the last couple of weeks (put on 4 stone while pg so needed to lose the last bit!!!)

I am currently thin, but I'm not going to post my daily diet because it's not enough (v v bad for me I know, but I don't have time).

Anyway, last time I was on a diet I decided not to torture myself and made small changes to my diet instead: bought dried fruit instead of biscuits, cut out sugar on cereal and, most importantly, stopped worrying about trying to finish every last mouthful on the plate. I lost a stone in about 6 weeks I think. It is all those last mouthfuls that cause the problem!

agree about the speed you eat being a factor, Eulalia. I have started to eat far too quickly since bfing (think because I am hungrier than usual). am going to try and chew each mouthful 50 times

Sorry I haven't got a lot of time so couldn't read all the posts.
As someone who lost 3st+, my main change to diet was bigger quantities at meal times to stop me snacking in between meals. I also eat my main evening meal earlier, generally before 6pm.
My weight has been steady at around 8.5 stone for several years now (except when pregnant!).

I a typical day I drink about 5 cups of tea or coffee, 4 or 5 glasses of water or squash, 1 glass of juice and sometimes wine in the evening.

Food is typically like this:

Breakfast: 2 slices of toast with marmalade or cornflakes with muesli (large bowl). Banana

Mid-morning: biscuit

Lunch: Large roll with ham, salad and mayonnaise.
Bag of crisps. Apple

Mid-afternoon: couple of biscuits of something like a muesli bar. Often don't eat between lunch and tea.

Tea: Frequently a pasta-based dish, or something like sausage casserole served with potatoes.
Usually yogurt or icecream.

Evening: Bar of chocolate/crisps/fruit (one of these, not usually all, but am right now munching my way through a family sized bag of Revels

Don't do anything about the problem of eating out, just undo a button!

HTH

janeybops - don't fit your theory as I will eat just about anything.

Thanks Blossom, i wil try that.

You are right about the breakfast, if i ate something more filling, i might then actually make it to lunch without picking.

Agree with crunchie that portion size makes a difference, although obviously what you eat like fatty foods for eg and metabolism play a part. I remember someone staying with us and being amazed at the huge portions she could put away.

I am 8st 10lbs and 5'6" and have been the same weight for about 15 years. I don't eat low fat things and tend to just have a little of everything. Indeed I don't think about food too much. Breakfast tends to be a small bowl of cereal, midmorning a few biscuits or a cake, lunch is soup, sandwiches or maybe leftover dinner, then something about 4pm - cheese & biscuits or some peanuts, dinner is quite a big meal and often that is all I eat for the rest of the day. I am not that consistent though and some days eat more than others. I would say that when I do have something the portion is definately small as apart from my dinner I hate feeling bloated. I can't eat more than 2/3 biscuits, or about 4 chocs and can't gorge on fatty things (unlike dh who can eat huge chunks of cheese) I can't eat if I am stressed or in a hurry and sometimes I actually like to get a proper appetite, ie feel really hungry as I know I will enjoy the meal more. Also don't eat crap in front of the kids and find by the time they go to bed I am usually so tired that I don't feel like eating.

Another thing that I have noticed is that some people eat really quickly and this is a factor too I believe in the French people - they take a long time to eat and so feel fuller after less food. And you may have guessed I am a very slow eater. Spicy food I find takes longer to eat too.

Sorry for the essay, hope it helps

V interesting reading. I was skinnyish pre-this-pregnancy and am such a lard-arse at the moment (size 12-14 instead of 10).
Am sure I used to eat more than I do now as well!!!?
A question to dieters - how do you motivate yourself to keep to diet during the early stages, before you start seeing results? I'm too impatient and get so despondent when am not thinner two days into it!

janybops, I think you have something there. I always had a 5 pound rule (sorry, don't know the conversation factor to stone). It was pretty easy to lose within that range but if it crept up to 10 then I was in trouble! I was a little worried after ds, since I had gained some fretting to conceive then 40 pounds more while pregnant! Chasing after ds has helped to lose it and I used to teach a belly dance class which is wonderful and very fun exercise - plus the costumng is addictive.

Nutty - cut out the snacks and replace them with fruit or other low calorie snacks. I have cut out crisps, chocolate and alcohol but am having wine tonight
Defititely swap the biscuits for ryvita or a banana. I would also say swap toast for porridge as that does fill you up. I am infact just under 10 stone as I just weighed myself naked

Well i am a 10/12 but if i don't stop eating like such a pig that will soon change i'm sure.

At the mo i have

Breakfast : 2 Peices of toast with marg and maramlade. Cup of tea with milk and 1 sugar.

10am : Another cuppa and buscuits (currently jammy dodgers

12.30 : Sandwhich and crisps or chees on toast (3 peices , sometimes 4 )

5/6 pm : Normal dinner, ie roast chicken dinner, pasta, sausage casserole etc etc.

Snacks on the night : Crisps, biscuits, big glass of full fat milk.

I am pretty sure that if i cut out the snacks i'd remain this size or even lose some but i am just soooooooo hungry mid morning and eat when i'm bored too, (which is alot).

I have two theories

  1. thin people notice quite quickly if they have put on a pound or two and then cut back for a few days. Whereas I don't notice till I have at least 2 stone to budge!

  2. Some people are 'super' tasters, taste buds very sensitive -these are the sort of people who are fussy or picky eaters. They seem to stay pretty thin. Whereas I will eat anything, can't think of anything I don't like. BUT food doesn't really taste of anything to me, I go more on texture... Perhaps I need more to satisfy me!

okay, I'm 5ft6 and weigh just under 10 stone. At the moment I eat muesli and fruit with semi-skimmed milk for breakfast, a cheese sandwich, soup and sometimes crsips for lunch, and dinner si sometimes takeaway, sometimes oven fish and chips, sometimes pasta etc. However I used to be 9st and when I weighed that I cut out bread at lunchtime and just had salad.

I'm 5 feet even (when I stand up really, really tall ) and 105 lbs. I tend to eat better and less at home than on the days that I work when I tend to grab a fast food burger. I do try to avoid the larger sized ones and get the size that is put into children's meals.
Yesterday I was off and had:
breakfast - one egg, toast, tea
lunch - salad with grilled tuna, water, and split a sundae with dh for dessert.
dinner - the rest of my lunch which I didn't finish, two glasses of chardonnay
Today at work:
breakfast - sausage biscuit and coffee
lunch - small hamburger and fries, water to drink
dinner - ??
