Is size 12 seen as "big" generally?

Hi all,

Not trying to cause controversy here as I am genuinely interested. But do most people consider a UK size 12 to be "big"? I only ask because I see a lot of posts online at people "horrified" that they reached a size 12 and to me it's never seemed bad at all. Perhaps I've been living under my nice little rock of ignorance. Of course I'm sure height and build plays a massive role too!

As others have said it all depends on the height of the person. I am very short (5’1”) and am healthy at an 8-10 and have always been that size until I hit bloody perimenopause. I went from 8st 2lb to a stone heavier in a year with no change of diet and I’m now 12. I’m not huge but I look awful, dumpy and not well. I’ve got to get it off somehow but it’s v slow progress. When you’re short you can see every 5lb change your figure

Re. sizing changing over the years, I have an old Jackie annual from the late 1980s which has an article called 'None of these girls is a perfect size 12 but they still look great!" It features a thin girl, a large girl, and tall girl. The large girl is a size 16, the thin girl is a size 10.

I still can't accept that a size 12 is medium. A large proportion of uk population is overweight. A size 10
is still small to me, 12 ideal.

A 12 looks on the larger size on my frame.
I'm of the Kate Moss era. I remember an 8 being an aspirational size in the 90s. I fear the recent skinni tok phase sees a 4/6 as the golden size. I wore a petite 6 in Topshop and the range was tiny in that size.
