Insulin resistance

I have been told by a dietitian that I'm insulin resistant and need to totally cut carbs/ sugar for a couple of weeks, while increasing my protein intake at each meal.

I normally eat a pretty healthy diet which includes fish & veg.

I can do no sugar, bread, no pasta very easily.

But this thing of not eating potatoes or beans is feeling like the hardest!

Any ideas for delicious meals or swaps I can make?

If you go look on this link you will find loads of help, including a few recipe threads.

@BIWI is running a bootcamp just now as well, as she has done for years. The current link is linked below for you; she and others will be happy to answer questions and give support.

Also, good luck! I have had very good results over the years in managing insulin resistance/type 2 diabetes with low carbing. I just maintain now, for the most part, which keeps me within healthy weight and, more importantly, well within myself.

A good few weeks of being careful should help a great deal and you can then slowly start adding small amounts back in until you find the sweet spot that works for your body.

I have PCOS / insulin resistance so spend my days craving sugar and carbs.

I don't have the app but I do like a lot of the recipes on Carb Manager.

I don't love cauliflower rice but I switched out my pasta for shredded cabbage and despite sounding miserable and gross it was actually really nice. And I don't feel sleepy and horrible after it.

I grill tomatoes and maybe mushrooms to bulk up 'meat' dinners to replace potatoes.

PCOS symptoms have been off the scale so I started taking Inositol and the reduction in cravings, sweet tooth and food noise has been remarkable.

I'm not suggesting that for you OP as you're seeing a professional who is monitoring you but just putting it here in case anyone else with insulin resistance wants to look into it.

Join the Freshwell group on Facebook and download the app & scanner.

It's a low carb lifestyle set up by a dietitian and Dr's surgery. Very good support and lots of meal ideas

I'm insulin resistant too and have found that sugar, anything flour/ baked, pasta, potatoes, bread, pizza, some fruits, (sometimes beans) spike my blood sugar and mess me up. I had to stop eating them. Interestingly I can eat chips and it won't affect me so that's the only kind of potatoes I eat occasionally now.

I'm on Mounjaro and decided to try again to see what I can and cannot eat and it has reduced their spiky effect a lot but still slightly there, so I had to cut them out again. Sad too because I love potatoes. I'm on almost no carbs and high protein meals with veg now.
