Just want to be skinny

Anyone else fed up of being obese and just want to be skinny???

I've been fat all my life , I'm a fat greedy bastard. All I do is eat and even when I'm full I'm thinking of the next thing I can indulge in.

I've lost all confidence , how my dp is attracted to me is beyond me.

I've tried all of the diets, I've tried calorie counting I've tried completely starving myself.

I get so jealous when I see woman my age and their slim.

What can I do??? I don't want to try weight loss injections.

Me too

Can’t do injections due to gall stones.

I’m watching with interest to the advice !

To control my weight I only buy for the day. If I buy food/sweets/cakes I know I will eat them and put on weight, so I don’t buy any treats. My snack is fruit. I know it takes extra time and money but I buy at the local small shops. It will not be more expensive in the long run as you will save on not buying sugared food and drinks, It will also mean good healthy food for you. Try it for a month and see if there is a difference for you.

I went from fat to slim.

I still thought I was fat and was unhappy.

There are some benefits eg heath.

But don't do it for aesthetics- you will have loose skin that'll need surgery for a start.

weathergirl289 · 27/10/2024 13:36

I've gone from 244lbs to 155lbs since the end of last year. It hasn't been easy but it has definitely been manageable. I will preface this by adding that I do have health issues including fibromyalgia and gastrointestinal difficulties. I cut down to 1100 calories maximum and massively reduced the carbs in my diet. I've had no bread, no cheese, no crisps, no pasta and no pizza at all since October last year. I've also cut out all alcohol and stuck to water, diluting juice or diet cokes. Switched to almond milk for teas and coffees as well. It has worked! I am now a very happy size 10 after spending about a decade as a size 18/20. I have increased my calories now to around 1400/1500 a day and I'm still losing about 1lb a week give or take. It is doable.
However, none of what I've mentioned will work if you are starting out by feeling as crap about yourself as your post suggests. There is no way forwards until you start to work on the self esteem, it's a very significant stumbling block so start with that and then see where you go from there. Good luck.

FoodieToo · 27/10/2024 13:38

I know you don't want to try the injections but if you did you would realise that you are none of the awful names you called yourself.

You realise what it is like to treat food like a thin person .
You have no fear about overeating because that won't happen .
You won't need to plan over and over again to start a diet in the future .

I am not very overweight but after 40 years of 'dieting' I decided to give the jabs a shot . It's just a revelation .
Good luck , whatever you do but stop with the self hate !

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 27/10/2024 13:38

Truly if the cause of your obesity is over eating and you have tried other things then I think you should consider weight loss injections. If you truly are obese then I’d have thought the anxiety around that would be worse than the anxiety around the injections. They have worked wonders for a close friend of mine who would describe herself in similar terms as you. I am overweight (BMI around 28) but not obese so they are not an option for me but if I was heavier I would definitely consider them.

weathergirl289 · 27/10/2024 13:38

@Summer24isRubbish I have gallstones too which was a big bit of what kicked off my own weight loss journey. It gave me the shock I needed to actually make that changes I needed to do.

TroysMammy · 27/10/2024 13:39

Have you tried portion control instead of dieting by cutting out "bad" foods?

I'm using Nutracheck and although I wasn't obese but I was in the bmi overweight category and it was increasing instead of decreasing. I also love my food but using Nutracheck I've lost just under 2 stone in 6 months. I've continued to eat chip shop chips, pizza and ice cream but weigh it out to a normal portion size. You weigh yourself and input on the app.

There's no nonsense like syns and free food like Slimming World or you can't eat this and you must eat that like Keto.

I haven't gone running, swimming or cycling and walking entails wandering around shops whilst pushing a trolley 😂.

Patienceinshortsupply · 27/10/2024 13:42

OP, it's the food you're eating that's causing the cycle of sugar/carb cravings that are impossible to satiate. Once you cut them both out, it's SO much easier to stay on track. I've been vegetarian for nearly 20 years, and ate a very carb based diet as a result - leading to type 2 diabetes. Since going low carb and cutting out most processed foods, I've been able to stay on the rails and have lost nearly 5 stone now - about 3 more to go. It's been slow, steady and manageable. I walk about 90 minutes a day with my dogs and am far more active doing things since not being held back with my body weight.

Supperlite · 27/10/2024 13:50

Instead of comfort eating, try comfort cardio. When you want to reach for some food, get outside and jog. You’ll start out walking for longer than you are jogging, but week after week you’ll find you can jog a bit more, and a bit more, and your appetite will get a little less, and a little less. Comfort cardio transformed my life!

AbitSceptical · 27/10/2024 13:51

OP - look at slimpod.
especially good for weight due to mental health issues.

didn’t work for me but my friend lost 3 stone and kept it off. She went from a size 20 to a 12!

Do you know how much the course she does is?

No, I don’t. But I think her videos are quite insightful on their own. I might enquire about the course.

Coachvikki · 27/10/2024 14:01

I've never been on this thread before so maybe this is not the right thing to say here, but the way you are talking about yourself really upset me. Eating what you want, or not being able to resist eating crap, are not character flaws. You are (I assume) still a nice person. Those people who are skinny are probably just as bad at resisting sweets and cake, but they have a different metabolism. So much goes into the make up of our bodies and our propensity for fat deposits, I think it would be very silly to look at it as a personal failing.

Feeling the way you do about yourself could lead you to think you don't 'deserve' to be happy or have nice things. That is just not true.

Ansjovis · 27/10/2024 14:12

The only thing that's going to work is to address the underlying reasons that got you to where you are now. I went from being overweight to now a healthy weight and I simply could not have done it without reframing my relationship with food. I now choose food that will help my body to grow strong and resilient and give me the energy I need to perform well in the gym. If I do this I sleep better and if I sleep better then I feel better and am more likely to make positive diet choices and the cycle just keeps going like that.

It was very tough for the first few weeks but there are a few things I did:

  • Find an exercise class that I enjoyed and filled me full of endorphins. It's much harder to make destructive choices when full of endorphins
  • In the early days if I felt hungry I would drink a glass of water. If I still felt hungry I'd go for a quick walk around the block. 9 times out of 10 that would resolve the issue but if it didn't I would have fruit on hand to snack on.
  • I made slow and steady changes to my diet, no big bangs. No foods were demonised and forbidden but I did have to use willpower to limit portion sizes. Switching to individually wrapped small portions instead of blocks of chocolate helped but I still needed to use that willpower.

Skinny isn't a good thing.
it's okay to want to be slim, but skinny means underweight, and that's no healthier than being overweight.

Skinny really is just used to mean slim nowadays.

By most younger people anyway.

TheKeatingFive · 27/10/2024 15:09

I expect what most would consider 'skinny' nowadays is not underweight.

However optimal weights are different for different people. Everyone needs to find what's right for them and their bodies.

Higgeldypiggeldy35 · 27/10/2024 15:33

Diets are the problem not you. I recommend following rebelfit on facebook. Focus on eating more whole foods, less upf and doing some strength training. And be kind to yourself x

Autumnweddingguest · 28/10/2024 17:50

Dontlletmedownbruce · 27/10/2024 12:29

@Autumnweddingguest what type of workouts did you do? How regular, did you have a trainer etc? I'm thinking of starting something but I feel the young buff trainers won't understand my body

I did online workouts to get a bit of strength up. Then tried out two trainers. One was skinny and bitched about all her other clients. The other was quite curvy and very fit, super positive and enthusiastic. I stuck with her. Good PT clients totally get that bodies have different ranges and abilities. They know how to modify exercises and how to motivate you. Try a few PTs until you find one you like and can afford. It's an expense - but so would weight loss injections be. So is too much take away pizza. It's an investment in your health and fitness and self esteem long term, and that is always worth spending on, even if you never have before. I did some PT with the good trainer until the money ran out, then joined her fitness classes. I still go to them, years later.

henlake7 · 29/10/2024 15:34

Ive gone from a size 24 to an 8-10 (and Im 5'5 so thats not big) and yet I still sometimes find myself wishing I was skinny!
I think we just give ourselves unrealistic expectations sometimes. Not to mention pinning alot of pressure on weight loss 'my life will be so much better when Im thin'.

Maybe instead of telling yourself you want to be skinny tell yourself you want to be fit and healthy then look at ways to make that happen.
Just ignore weight loss for the time being and add in some activity, even walking. Then try and add whole foods into your diet. What you often find is that because you can fill up with bigger quantities of whole foods it satisfies a need to eat big portions and you dont feel like snacking on rubbish.
You will probably find you lose weight incidentally just by trying to improve your general health!

tadams · 28/02/2025 16:07

I didn't see exercise in your attempts to be thin. We are not talking Olympic training. I found that wearing a weight vest when I walk 2 miles a day - three days a week tones the core and will increase your bone density. Start with 5 pounds. Also Incorporate this with your daily chores.
