Just want to be skinny

cloudof · 27/10/2024 12:10

Anyone else fed up of being obese and just want to be skinny???

I've been fat all my life , I'm a fat greedy bastard. All I do is eat and even when I'm full I'm thinking of the next thing I can indulge in.

I've lost all confidence , how my dp is attracted to me is beyond me.

I've tried all of the diets, I've tried calorie counting I've tried completely starving myself.

I get so jealous when I see woman my age and their slim.

What can I do??? I don't want to try weight loss injections.

Why Skinny?
Why not a healthy weight or dress size that works for you, or a starter target of BMI that is overweight rather than obese?
Or is this one of those threads where at some point you'll post that your a size 12 and you'd rather be an 8?

Autumnweddingguest · 27/10/2024 12:54

Another thing that might help @cloudof is making a list of small non-food treats and destressors. Start to build them into your day. When I started, I did a lot of looking at cute kittens and puppies and babies on youtube, or listening to my favourite ever songs - especially from when I was a teenager. These videos were a 3-5 minute mood boost that had a similar effect as reaching for a comfort snack.

Also, keeping very healthy food treats around is good. If you like berries or melon keep them in the fridge as a treat instead of biscuits or crisps. I used to think they were so expensive - but they are no way more expensive than excessive UPF snacks and take outs.

People are fat for two reasons.

lack of education: they don’t know what’s healthy and what isn’t

mental health.

Get therapy. Deal with your binge eating. or educate yourself on what is healthy and what isn’t. Or both.

Lol at 'two reasons'.

There are way more reasons than that and I'm sure you know it.

Mozzarellaballs · 27/10/2024 13:04

Have a look at Team RH he is no nonsense and sets healthy calorie goals

AmICrazyToEvenBother · 27/10/2024 13:04

I think you need to delve into why you eat the way you do. It sounds like you're using food to self-medicate in some way in my completely unqualified opinion.

You can diet until the cows come home, sometimes even with a really good outcome, but unless you understand the role that food has taken in your life and why, you'll always revert.

CautiousLurker1 · 27/10/2024 13:05

Sounds as though at the heart of what you are saying is that you are suffering from some level of low self esteem and also need to find a way to stick to a programme long term, so maybe reframing goals and targets, chunking htem down? I think Noom is one of the programmes that works on some of that?

'Skinny' just seems to be the modern word for slim.

It does make me bristle though, because at age 55 I'm old enough to remember when it was a terrible insult, and not something anyone would aspire to be.

Thehonestbadger · 27/10/2024 13:07

@cloudof

Right, I’ve been every size, from a UK 26 to a 4 (seriously I’ve been at both very concerning extremes) and here’s what I’ve discovered.

Obese sucks it doesn’t feel good or healthy
skinny also sucks it feels just as bad, you’re freezing cold all the time you are overwhelmingly tired and hair grows all over your body.

Aim for an average middle ground I’m talking 10-16 kinda range depending on your height and build. Focus on being happy elsewhere not derived solely from your weight. Also, you will never maintain a weight based on ‘being on a diet’ it’s all about lifestyle, move more, get busy, go out as much as possible, walk places rather than drive, take the stairs and do not keep snacks in your bag. If it feels like a hideous chore it’s not your lifestyle it should come naturally. Lean into the stuff you like, I hate running but love to shop so I go on days out where I can walk around massive shopping centres…etc you don’t need to spend to do it.

I guess what I’m saying is find ways to exercise and keep busy that don’t feel hard. Find pleasures to focus on that aren’t food. 10 years ago I would have never believed it possible but now being a size 8-10 is so normal for me.

BookishType · 27/10/2024 13:09

Have a look at the Mounjaro threads.

It really is a wonder drug. I’ve lost 37 pounds so far and it’s been easy and enjoyable.

BreatheAndFocus · 27/10/2024 13:09

Both are too extreme. Why do you want to be skinny rather than slim/normal weight? Even you wishing that communicates something about your relationship with food. If you can change that, that would be the biggest help, I think.

Also, as you lose weight you might find it easier to completely reset your metabolism. That would hopefully remove your need to eat so much and so frequently. Yes, some of it might be emotional, but I bet some is hormonal dysfunction due to your weight.

TLDR: sort your head and your body should follow x

LLresident · 27/10/2024 13:10

This works for me when I have some weight to lose:

Exercise before eating breakfast (doesn’t have to be a full workout, just like 10min or so of activity) then a high protein breakfast - eggs or high protein yoghurt or meat. It helps a lot to stop any cravings.

3 meals a day, no snacks. Lots of protein. Have coffee or tea if you are hungry. Don’t eat after 6pm. After eating each meal go for a quick walk.

If you are at home craving sweet stuff or want to eat loads have a hot bath, it regulates blood sugar.

@cloudof have you read ultra processed people? If not have a read, it really is eye opening how UPF is designed to make us fat and keep us there

That's not accurate. Neither of those are my issue.

Gonegirl7 · 27/10/2024 13:19

You probably don’t want to hear this but I’m naturally skinny and have been skinny all my life. I’m miserable because of other reasons. Being skinny isn’t happier

MightSoundCrassButItsFactual · 27/10/2024 13:20

Stop bread, cake, buiscuits and pastries
Eat eggs, bacon, meat, fish, porridge, vegetables and fruit, diary
Don't drink especially beer and wine
Don't drink fizzy drinks, fruit juice is ok

MrsKwazi · 27/10/2024 13:21

Sadly, of you want to be a size 12 you have to eat like someone that is a size 12. Sorry (from a lard arse x)

LilyWrites · 27/10/2024 13:21

I'm 57 and this has been an issue my entire life. I'm finally losing some weight, very slow but it's happening, without dieting, for the first time in my entire life. What I'm doing is basically intermittent fasting. All I do is not eat after a certain time in the day, and not before a certain time. So I don't eat after 8pm and before 8am. So 12 hours fasting. This is about the least you can do; lost of people don't eat before 10am, or mid-day. It's basically skipping a meal if you do it that way, which of course gives less calories in your day every day, and cutting out snacks because you're not picking in the evening after a certain time. I haven't changed what I'm eating at all. If weight loss slows to nothing, I'll extend the period of fasting, but for now a 12 hour fast is good.

I disagree. Name any others. I’m sure they can all be attributed to one of the above, aside from health conditions which the OP doesn’t have.

Lentilweaver · 27/10/2024 13:23

I don't know much about weight loss injections. Not on them
But aren't they designed for this constant thinking about food? I get you have health anxiety but aren't you anxious about being obese?

GrandColombier · 27/10/2024 13:23

Autumnweddingguest · 27/10/2024 12:26

Have you tried starting with working out? People say it's all about diet, but I lost a stone in 6 months without changing my food intake at all, just by taking up bodyweight training.

Bodyweight workouts make you really aware of your body in a good way. Proud of its strength, keen to improve its flexibility and power. You quickly change shape with toned thighs, lovely muscle ridge hollows down the sides of your waist, tighter butt and upper arms.

You get better posture, which can make you look half a stone slimmer immediately. You have more energy, so you want to move more, generally - walking where you might have taken the car, clearing and cleaning more often, lifting heavy things instead of expecting men to lift them for you etc.

Once you feel positive about your body and what it is capable of, it's easier to start wanting to eat for nutrition not comfort. I'm not saying it is the way to be skinny, but I am now over a stone lighter than I was, without dieting.

I will also reiterate this.

Yes, it the diet part will be what really changes the scales. You probably know what a healthy diet looks like. But channeling boredom into exercise, giving you a reason to be proud of your body and want to nourish it because it's doing amazing things is a very powerful thing indeed.

Start small but consistent. The consistency is key, too much at once is almost set up to fail like most crash diets etc.

Atomic Habits might be a good book to try if you are a reader.

Well, even if you shed the weight you might still "feel" fat and bad about yourself. Body dysmorphia is a real thing so before deciding if you're overweight check out your imc. I thought I was a bit overweight but according to my imc I'm normal (20) so it's all in my head🤷‍♀️.

Not necessarily, I am fortunate enough to be educated in nutrition and have good mental health.

I got fat because I drank too much, ate out too often and couldn’t lay off the sweet stuff. In other words an educated, happy but greedy cow.

I was not surprised by the outcome.

LBFseBrom · 27/10/2024 13:26

Try doing more exercise, eg walk rather than taking a bus, go up stairs at work instead of lift. Have a little music compilation to which you can dance, using all parts of your body, every day. I did all of that and became quite trim.

Eat healthily and regularly but leave out fattening stuff.

Good for you not considering medications, they are not necessary.

Attelina · 27/10/2024 13:26
