Is anyone NOT using weight loss injections?

Seems like everyone is at the moment.
I am overweight, but I don’t want to inject myself with anything - just my opinion but it makes me uncomfortable and I’m worried about potential longer term side effects. Plus needing to come off them eventually.

I feel like this will be the only way soon and I’ll be the loser trying to lose weight via low carb and calorie counting!

I’m not! I have eating disorders but am obese now so not sure if it is a good idea for me as I am likely to stop eating all together if my appetite drops

Parker231 · 15/09/2024 15:26

No but have never been overweight.

Babsexxx · 15/09/2024 19:41

I’m not just recovered from the most horrific post partum panic attack disorder and I’m feeling great again! Seen far to many people on tiktok say they are having this side effect just to name one…hair loss diarrhoea vomiting urghhh no thanks! Plus my bmi is 26 so I wouldn’t of qualified anyway! I’m the same as you I think long term affects!

No but have never been overweight.

Well what are you doing on this forum then….? 🥴

Difficultterrain · 15/09/2024 19:45

No. I’ve lost a lot of weight by not eating breakfast and stopping picking. Not eating breakfast seems to stop me snacking all day and extends the hours with no food (although I still have milk in tea etc).

EmeraldRoulette · 15/09/2024 19:46

@Redonionsalad we had a thread for people not using them

i can’t find it now but lost 1.5 stones since May. Definitely posters around not using them and doing well.

tbh if not on MN I wouldn’t have known how many people use them.

BloodyWolves · 15/09/2024 19:50

Me! I’ve lost 2 stone, 8 pounds since April and I’ve got another two and a half to go. Similarly to above, I’ve had eating disorders in the past and not feeling hunger will probably start me off again.

While I totally believe it’s each to their own and understand why people take them… I just can’t get on board with injecting myself for something which I can do without the medication.

SirChenjins · 15/09/2024 19:54

I’ve got a stone to lose and am doing it the old fashioned way. It’s a personal choice but the idea of injecting some pretty strong stuff freaks me out.

Oneblindmouse · 15/09/2024 20:02

I'm not using them. I have lost a stone by reducing what I eat at mealtimes, not snacking and eating within a nine hour window (9am to 6pm). I struggle to exercise due to my disabilities but try to walk as much as possible.

Blondiney · 15/09/2024 20:03

Nope. Not fat enough, apparently.

namestevalian · 15/09/2024 20:06

Nope ,

Lost 12kg since June not using them .

Two meals a day, no snacks and focus on healthy & high protein Whole Foods .

Indulging more on the weekend.

I have 20 more KG to lose and I am considering them but not right now anyway !

Ribenaberry12 · 15/09/2024 20:12

I’m not. Just calorie counting.

Tumblingjungleofchaos · 15/09/2024 22:18

I'm not as I have several allergies anyway and just don't want to risk putting anything into me when there's little known about long term effects.

I'm just about to start again looking at losing weight after recent ill health. It'll take a while but I'm happier doing it the old fashioned way.

Loooooo · 15/09/2024 22:20

I’m not. I want to lose a stone but wouldn’t be able to get them on GP because am not overweight enough. My sister said she always sharted orange oily stuff on them- put me right off

That's not weight loss injections. She probably was referring to tablets like Orlistat that bind to fat and reduce the amount of fat you can digest. One of the side effects of those is what your sister described. At least criticise things from an informed position, rather than half-understood second-hand anecdotes.

Pogggle · 16/09/2024 09:50

I'm not, although I did try them. I had awful side effects and had to stop. My friend has been taking them and has done really well, she's dropped nearly 3 stone in about 3 months

LissaGa · 16/09/2024 10:00

NO, I've lost 26lbs in 8 weeks on a low calorie diet. I have about the same amount to go. I am not going to inject myself with medication intended for diabetics, whose long term side effects are still unknown.

She’s on Wegovy. She’s had quite bad diarrhoea from it and in some cases it’s been uncontrollable and oily. Maybe it’s just her. I don’t think she’d lie to me

To quote the pp above,
"At least criticise things from an informed position, rather than half-understood second-hand anecdotes."

Mounjaro is approved for weightloss (so it's intended for weightloss) and supply has clearly been adjusted to meet that demand.

That's not what your first post said. Now it's uncontrollable diarrhoea, which is not what your original criticism was. If someone is obese then the risk of mild/medium side effects is outweighed by the benefits of losing weight. If she's struggling with it then she should speak to her prescriber and see if a lower dose is better.

I put on over half a stone with menopause. I’d done nothing different, still ate and exercised the same, so unfair. I lost it slowly on the intermittent fasting regime (16:8). I found it to be really easy to follow and have kept it up without any issues. So lovely to be able to get back into my clothes, I didn’t fancy buying a new wardrobe.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 16/09/2024 10:26

I'm not, scared of the side effects, trying to eat better and going on my cross trainer every day, even if only 10-15 minutes, it's slow but it's working.

Well done but you are not really the target audience for weight loss jabs

Fussyknickers · 16/09/2024 10:48

Nope, I’m not and would never try them. I’ve lost 5.5st using calorie deficit and only eating over 8 hours in a day. Apart from the fact the injections are crazy expensive, I wouldn’t want to risk the side effects. I also have some health conditions which would be made worse by them.

NyeRobey · 16/09/2024 10:54

I tried mounjaro and it triggered panic attacks so I stopped after 3 weeks.

Since lost 10lb - coming off slowly but steadily - using the Simple app for intermittent fasting. Finding it very sustainable so far.
