Hello- I am looking for ideas here. I'm early 50s and have put on 7 stone in the last few years 😳

I am thinking about coaching or a nutritional therapist?

I eat well and generally cook from scratch. I'm pretty knowledgeable about nutrition but I eat way too much.

I can see this is due to many reasons- I was raised by a recovering annorexic and nutrition was the way to tackle it. I have some odd ideas. Like I must eat all the healthy stuff or I will run out of energy or become ill.

I am disabled (I cant walk or cycle) but I exercise daily for lots of reasons not really related to weight loss.

I have also had some quite extreme stress in the last few years. But I meditate, do yoga, and make a massive effort to do things I enjoy.

I really don't want injections as I am quite sensitive to medications and I absolutely won't have surgery (scaredy-cat)

So...due to a change in budget I have around £100pxm for a limited time. I am thinking about something like therapy, coaching (except I happen to know some life coaches and they are quite irritating). I know two nutritional therapists that I really trust as people.

But I just don't know what to do. Eat less move more, calorie counting, keto, IF etc isn't on its own sustainable for me. Nor SW or WW etc. The solution is in my brain.

Any ideas? What would you try. Has anyone tried any of these kinds of methods?

@SillyTurd I did not mention water. I barely drink any so I defo need to up it. I did the calculation and it said 4 litres.

@AnnieMcFanny my friends are struggling to eat (and poo!) - they do recommend it though and I do think I have a view that isn't quite right. I'm definitely not anti (I can't believe it's hard to get on the nhs when it would save so much money)

@marmaladeandpeanutbutter nuts OR cheese?!!

Well yes, it's clear that my portions are way off. I am going to start there. I think I may ease in with reducing portions and making some up in salad (as in spinach, tomatoes, cucumber- not anything else really).

I'm also going to up my water intake.

I'm also going to continue to look at how I think around food and scarcity.

I'm so glad I started this thread. It's been so helpful.

When I say reduce, I mean half apart from salad leaves

The Mounjaro is interesting. I know a few people taking this and one (who is prescribed it for non weight reasons) looks so well now. I'm not anti it - I just know I'm terrible with side effects.

And again it doesn't seem healthy to me (in terms of nutrition). Because you are essentially restricting by having a fairly heavy appetite suppressant.

I'm so glad I asked for opinions because I see I need to really reconsider what I think is healthy. I think I have really fixed ideas and it's not doing me any favours.

It may be worth considering the balance of relatively few side effects with an injectable versus being 7 stone overweight which is very significant.
the only way to loose large amounts of weight is with calorie restriction.

@rubytubeytubes yes. That is a very good. It's pretty sobering. I wasn't this weight while full term pregnant - by 5 stone!

Nutracheck App
And a decent pair of food weighing scales
It's a case of 'spending' your calories wisely and not eating crap
I've lost 14lbs in 5 weeks*

This! weighing my food has made a massive difference, and I'm sticking to it as no foods are ruled out - you just have to track everything. If you can exercise too, even better. I've only been doing it a few weeks, but feel like I have learnt a lot that I didn't know before

As other have said, Mounjaro. Absolute no brainer if you are serious about wanting to lose the weight.

Life changing.

I'm with the PP who says this might be medical.
No one puts in 7 stone in a few years if they are eating salads and doing yoga etc and I don't care how much cheese and nuts you put in the salad - it just won't happen. Have you had a thyroid check done? Diabetes? To answer your original question I would use the money for a personal trainer.

I haven’t RTFT but Slimming World (about £6 per week) and a gym/health club membership. Worked for me and I’d rather spend the bulk of the money on something that feels a bit luxurious than a faddy meal plan/app.
