Seems like the whole world is taking them.

I'm occasionally tempted but worried about the long term effects... what would put you off?

One of them was recently linked to sudden irreversible blindness.

Just one article

Long term side effects… pancreatitis, thyroid cancer….i truly believe there is something that science doesn’t understand about why some people struggle with their weight so badly… me included and there is so much more to it that eat less and move more and there’s more to it that emotions. But… I think she I see people say they feel permanently sick, losing hair, having sulphur smelling burns due to gastrioparisis and various other issues …. I think Ozempic etc is VERY close to the answer, but it isn’t the answer.

Side effects,Pumping unnecessary drugs into my body.

Ago · 07/09/2024 14:46

I’m too worried about the side effects and too expensive for my budget

BB36 · 07/09/2024 14:47

I’m not sure where it will lead to…I’m currently pursuing a (somewhat) healthy lifestyle to stay in shape. But if there was no longer any pressure to do so, my overall diet and exercise regime would be much less healthy. Currently I’m a slightly overweight but quite healthy and fit person, I fear that with weight loss injections I’d be slim but unhealthy and unfit.

Sajacas · 07/09/2024 14:47

It's an expensive drug with unknown long-term side effects, which may well bankrupt the NHS either through the cost of the prescriptions and/or the cost of treating the as yet unkownn consequences.

Dreamingofgoldfinchlane · 07/09/2024 14:48

Horrendous side effects, even though they're rare.

StarSlinger · 07/09/2024 14:48

The way they make people look. The celebs I've seen who take it look haggard.

Concerns about

  • long term impact to my health
  • how to come off without piling on the weight again.

This !!

I dread to think of the impact on the NHS of the long term effects we currently know nothing about.

I would love to lose 2 stone the same 2 stone I have lost and gained dozens of times in my life but really don't wan’t to impact my long term health to achieve that.

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/09/2024 14:51

Side effects. But I'm lucky that LCHF works for me. I have a system. People who don't, it's difficult. I think I would have been tempted before I met @BIWI and the gang on here.

Hoglet70 · 07/09/2024 14:58

Unknown long term side effects.
Horrendous short term side effects.
Not teaching me anything about being healthy so the potential to gain everything back as soon as you stop taking them.
It's cheaper to eat healthily.

tobee · 07/09/2024 15:16

Just the cost for me.

I think lots of people like to scare monger about the negatives.

I mean we know the long term effects of obesity and being overweight on the NHS already. Plenty of people on them report few side effects or none at all.

They've been around a long time already.

To many people who take them they are far from unnecessary drugs. Just like my blood pressure and thyroid replacement medications aren't.

They really are a game changer.

tobee · 07/09/2024 15:17

I'm on an ordinary weight loss diet right now. It's not teaching me anything I didn't know already about healthy eating either.

AhBiscuits · 07/09/2024 15:28

I took them, best decision ever.
I decided being obese was a greater risk and I'd been trying to change that for years. I'm a healthy weight now. Been off them and maintaining for a few months without issue.

bevelino · 07/09/2024 15:32

I think the ongoing cost would put me off. The fact I would regain weight once I stopped taking the drug. Having loose skin following very quick weight loss, which would show off the lack of tone in my limbs.

I have to agree with this.

People keep mentioning the side effects, but I’d be far more worried about the risks associated with obesity

StMarieforme · 07/09/2024 15:41

No evidence of long term side effects.

Ozempic face.

I would NOT want to look like Sharon Osborne I'm afraid.

thursdaymurderclub · 07/09/2024 15:42

cost... i do currently take them, but the cost is getting a bit beyond me now.

Disturbia81 · 07/09/2024 15:46

Everyone looks very skinny so these injections do the job BUT they all look gaunt and much older in the face, it's a trade off I guess

Loss of muscle

Cost

Taking drugs

Long term effects

The food noise will just come back

Not being able to enjoy food

Are you 71 and have had fucking loads of cosmetic surgery? If not, your fears of looking like Sharon Osborne are likely unfounded.

tobee · 07/09/2024 16:26

An excellent response @AhBiscuits

Hatty65 · 07/09/2024 16:29

I prefer not to fill my body with chemical shit that is likely to have side effects. I don't want drugs for anything unless it's absolutely necessary. I think people want a 'magic pill' to fix everything, but nothing is free and all drugs have side effects.

NyeRobey · 07/09/2024 16:41

I did take them (just 3 weeks) and had to stop as I was one of a small number of people that it appeared to horrendously exacerbate my existing anxiety. I had panic attacks and debilitating insomnia.

There is growing evidence of this and it isn't currently listed in the typical side effects. People have died. I keep coming on these threads to warn people especially those with tendencies to anxiety, that if they do take these meds and experience anxiety symptoms worsening, it could well be the meds.
