I can NOT get below 11 stone

My happy weight is 10 stone. At 11 I start to look porky (see username).

I exercise 12 times a week.
I stay under 1300 every day.
I am 50
Eat Keto

wtf am I doing wrong? Since I turned 50, like the very month I turned 50 I stuck on a stone and it’s not shifting. Also my periods stopped, so that’s been six months now.

I can’t exercise more or eat less so is this me? Is this the menopause setting me a new set weight? So pissed off right now! I just want to get into the 10s’

size 12, 5’4 and big bones.

Eat more to kick-start your metabolism. Also build muscle mass as it has a higher calorific burn than fat. My TDEE went up a lot.

It’s only Pilates and strength training though really that’s not arduous. I have plenty energy and am never tired or hungry really. I’m alarmed though that I’ve put on a stone, can’t really see where it’s gone and I can’t get it off

But your body needs more than 1300 calories a day if you stayed in bed all day! If you're doing weights and pilates 12 times a week then you probably carry a relatively high proportion of muscle compared to someone who doesn't exercise. Muscle is denser than fat and therefore you are likely to weigh more than someone who appears to be the same size but is "fatter". The equivalent mass of muscle also burns more calories, even at rest, than fat so your BMR will be even higher. Seriously, you need a damn good feed this weekend and I bet your loose weight next week!

@PigOnStiIts I'm in a special online fitness club and this month they have been focusing on menopause and the message they keep pushing is the most important thing to do is to lift heavy, the heavier the better, the older women get the more important it is and the it has such a big difference.

@caitlinsjoy Yesterday ham and feta and spinach omelette, dinner: chicken and veg stew and baguette - 1200 cals

I have omelettes most days after Pilates, I can’t eat before hand as it makes me feel really sick as we do a lot of core work. So I don’t eat until 12 but it’s a good routine for me, I love my omelettes and they keep me completely stuffed for hours. I’m
never hungry. So I’m probably doing some low level intermittent fasting.

Today: same omelette again, and for dinner teriyaki pork and veg. Everybody else will have sautéed potatoes on the side. I don’t like rice potatoes or bread really so I’ve always been low carb to some extent.

@Porridgenpots yeah I have a dog and walk him most days. I have four kids and a rushing around a lot, so loads of housework. I don’t count my steps but am always doing something. Just back from swimming. Don’t work so not sedentary.

Do you know what, maybe none of this matters, I’m happy healthy fit slim and toned.
I eat properly, never anything processed and no alcohol. Maybe I should just stop
moaning maybe I should just be grateful I can still get into the clothes I had at uni.

I agree with this.
BMI is a blunt instrument especially for people with muscle. If your waist is 27” I would be surprised if you would be any healthier through being a stone lighter.

OP

I think you’ve answered your own question then - it doesn’t matter!

You’re happy, active, and eat healthy - that’s the important things. Someone like you who is fit with a slim waist and doesn’t drink alcohol really doesn’t need to be worrying about an extra stone.

There will be people who weigh less than you but are far more unhealthy in terms of what they eat, how much alcohol/sugar they consume, their activity levels and waist size.

ETA: and yes be very grateful you can fit into your uni clothes! Personally I’d be very smug if I could get into any of my first year uni jeans 😆

Not this muscle thing again. It’s very difficult for women to gain muscle mass. It takes a long time and requires really heavy weigh training to failure, progressive overload, eating high protein, dedication to training and nutrition.

I didn’t lose a pound when I weight trained years ago, but my figure totally changed. I lost inches and looked great, but the scales didn’t change. That was my point.

Bingobatbap · 08/08/2024 15:58

Are your scales broken?!! 😂

I agree but OP isn’t weight training

You could have some huge variances here on calories depending on the weight of the eggs (without shell), cooking method (amount of oil, butter, low cal spray), exact weight of bread (easier to weigh and calculate if homemade).
